… read more meet lots of their friends! Sax is such a cute town! It is within walking distance from the house (about 40 mins) and Ian and Julia also have bikes you can use! The work they had us do was more than fair! A typical day started around 9:00 am and we would work for 3 -4 hours doing various yard work and other chores. Our main task was trimming olive trees. They always made sure we took breaks when needed and that we stayed hydrated! After that we would have free time to do whatever we wanted! We would normally do our own thing for lunch with groceries Ian and Julia had bought for us and then Julia made dinner almost every night! We really enjoyed learning new English sayings and hearing stories from Ian and Julia’s life! One highlight from our trip was when we got to go to one of their cricket games and then get dinner with them and their friends in Alicante! We also got to go to different events in Sax which were always fun! They have the best cats who will entertain you and the most beautiful sunsets! Julia and Ian are so generous, we had a lot of fun with them and learned a lot during our stay! I stayed with Julia & Ian for about two weeks, and it was wonderful. They are kind, generous, and fun-loving people, and we laughed a lot. … read more very good cook and I already miss the relaxed breaks with tea and biscuits with you. The work was very easy and great fun. Despite I could not do the harvest, because it was already done, I enjoyed pruning about 50 olive trees and I even learned ploughing :) There was nothing too difficult. I could always ask you for help and it was always a good mood while working with you - and listening to Ed Sheeran while the working :) Afterwards I was allowed to jump in the pool, even if it was very cold... Thank you for the trust to stay alone in your home with your cute four cats and 13 chickens. I had a cozy room and bathroom for myself. The weather was cold, but Ian put on the heating and oven. I usually worked from 9:30 am until 2 pm, within two breaks of twenty minutes, afterwards I made a sandwich and had the chance to ride with the e-bike to Sax, the nearest town. In the evenings Julia prepared a delicious dinner for us and we watched typically British shows on TV with a glass of vine. I was happy that you envited me to meet your friends and visiting a castle as well. We also went to the traditional 'Three Kings', a christmas celebration on the street and I had a day off, where you even brought me to Alicante, a beautiful town where you can eat Tapas and Paella on the harbor. I wished I could have stayed longer. I hope we could stay in contact and I would love to come again anytime. You are warmly welcomed in Germany. We stayed 3 days at Julia’s and Ian’s house instead of 3 weeks. The room was really confortable. Ian and Julia welcomed us nicely but unfortunately their profil wasn’t update (no horses at home). Our main work was to harvest the olives trees for about 5 hours a day. After our work shifts we had to do the shopping with them and carry their bags.
… read more During the shopping, Ian hit Joana with the shopping bag in the back to show her something, which we don’t found appropriate. We had to put away the groceries once we got “home”. We started working at 10 am and were done at 4:30 pm. We specified in our profil that Max is learning English but Julia wasn’t doing any efforts to speak with Max and just spoke to Joana.
Also, we had to follow the life rythme of the house keepers. If we were hungry we needed to wait until it was time to eat. We missed our autonomy and our liberty. We felt like children’s. It might fits for some people but we felt uncomfortable so we decided to tell them how we felt. Joana and Maxime arrived on Thursday (two weeks earlier than originally arranged) where they were greeted with a meal and drinks.
The next morning we told them they would be working on their own as we had a prior commitment and they carried out 1-2 hrs work only! That evening they were treated to a meal out, including drinks of their choice.

… read more next morning we worked for 4 hours and then we went food shopping, buying foods of their choice and the rest of the day was free for them to do as they pleased. That evening a meal and drinks were provided.
The next day, they had a day off and arrived back in the evening to a hot cooked meal and drinks.
The next morning (day 4) they told us they were off! They told us they didn't have enough freedom and no autonomy!
We feel very used and let down by this couple. We were very kind and generous to them both and feel that they used us as a stop gap, probably to their next assignment!
We spent a lot of time and money on meeting their dietary likes and dislikes (which we are now left with) and allowed them to drink with no restrictions (not that this was abused).
They had a lovely room and private bathroom, access to wifi and everything they wanted and still let us down!
This is an important time of year to us with our collection of olives and this will set us back immensely so we will not be recommending this couple at this time.

… read more stay for around 10 days to pick the olives but ended up staying for a month, not only picking the olives but also pruning the trees too. Ian took us to the cooperative to see how the olives were processed and both Julia and Ian ensured we were involved in social events including a beach bbq on our very first day to celebrate the day of the kings.
Julia is an excellent cook and we benefited from this throughout our stay; they even took us to try our hand at their sporting activity of bowling which we thoroughly enjoyed.
During the month Julia and Ian were away for a few days and entrusted us with looking after the three lovely cats, Lulu, Oscar and Timothy as well as the chickens and the fish.
