    Description

NB we have NO availability until June 2025.

Hello, Martin and I would love you to join us. We are located in Hunua, South Auckland. We both work at home as Martin has retired (early).

If you want to experience our lifestyle but enjoy being close to civilization then this is the place for you!

We have Highland Cattle and Suffolk Sheep on 50 acres. We also have Chickens and two Labradors.
NB We often have more than 2 Labradors, at our home, as we doggy sit friend's Labradors....so sometimes it's a bit dog-crazy! Lol

Our lifestyle block is a very scenic piece of land that has small patches of bush, pine trees, a mini water fall, rolling hills and wonderful views out to the Hunua Valley and Ranges.

What is produced on our farm is for our private consumption.
We have a vegetable garden on the back lawn. We try to keep up with excess veggies by freezing or bottleing them however our chickens often enjoy items that go to seed!

    All meals are provided.
As we are a hobby beef and sheep farm our freezers are full of meat.
The veggie garden provides us with various produce and when the chickens are happy we have a good supply of fresh eggs!
Catherine is vegetarian (Martin is not). We welcome Vegans, Vegetarians and Carnivores!

    Please note:
Our farming day can start around 7.30am.

First of all: No experience is required, just a good attitude!

Hay gets made in January - this is definitely a case of "many hands make light work"

Previous Workawayers that we have hosted have done a fantastic job planting and mulching trees around our property. But there is always space to plant more! Planting trees/shrubs is more an Autumn/Winter job (March - August)

Tasks that we may need help with in the warmer months (Spring/Summer - ie Sept - Feb) involve weed control and property maintenance.

    We lamb from late July/August.

There is always on going tasks to do - ie drenching, castrating, docking, shearing, - but these tasks vary with the seasons.

Calving also varies from year to year. (ie due dates)
The calves get "calf training" which means getting them to trust humans and to wear a halter.

The Highland Cattle ALWAYS love a grooming session.

    Accommodation

We live in a modern, spacious house, where downstairs we have a room "reserved" for Workawayers. It has 2 single beds (that can be made into a big bed for a couple). This room also has an en-suite toilet/shower and a kitchenette.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

In good traffic, we are 40 minutes from Auckland Airport.

It takes 15 minutes drive (max) to get to the nearest town (Papakura) where there are shops and train/bus links. We are happy to work in with our guests plans. We can take you to this link.

A shorter drive in the other direction gets you to Hunua Village or the Hunua Ranges, where there are walking tracks and a magnificent water fall.

We can take you on day trips (approx. 2 hours radius from home).

Hobbiton is less than 2 hours from us.

Having your own vehicle is not necessary. (as long as you are happy being on a farm)
As mentioned, we are more than happy to drive you here and there.
