Kia ora travelers!
My whare (home) is in the middle of beautiful Honeymoon Valley, surrounded by native rainforest, birds and organic gardens. We build this eco house using local clay (adobe in-situ), green roofs, and much help from volunteers. We did a lot of 'woofing' ourselves, before settling here in the rural Far North. This is a very quiet area, perfect to enjoy nature and country living. The closest shop, the famous "Bush Fairy Dairy", is 7 km away, Taipa Beach 20 km, and Auckland 350 km. If you have no car, I can pick you up from the bus station in Taipa.
I am part of the Honeymoon Valley landcare group . We protect native forest, birds, lizards and insects by trapping predators and eradicating invasive weeds. You can help also me with organic, permaculture gardening: vegetables, flowers, herbs, fruit trees, mowing, brush-cutting, compost-making, maintenance and fixing things (basic carpentry, painting), sewing, cleaning, chopping firewood, etc. I have chickens. My neighbours brings their cows over to munch the grass in my paddock. I use the manure to make compost.
I cook mostly with vegetables from my garden and preferably wild meat. I love baking bread; make organic apple cider vinegar, sauerkraut (when in season), brew beer, preserve fruit, and collect seeds. During the week, I work at our local school; afternoons and weekends I work with you.
My home suits independent helpers who have work & life experience. For 4-5 hours of help per day, you get accommodation (in my house) and breakfast, a sandwich lunch and dinner. If you need a special diet e.g. vegetarian, gluten free, etc., or you need lots of snacks, please bring some food with you.
On days off, you can explore bush and bird live. You can do a bike ride (on gravel road!), explore the region, come to Taipa beach, or visit my kura (school) and learn about Maori culture. Our local river is great for swimming. If you like music: there is a keyboard, a guitar, a ukulele, and djembes. I love singing and dancing, and pilates. I love nature, films, literature and art.

We stayed one week with Gerlinde and Buddy the dog. We had a great time eating great organic food, having long talks about many things. She's great company.
