I had the most amazing five weeks with Alex and Greg. They are such amazing hosts and truly made me feel like i was part of the family. I felt very comfortable in Roujan and the apartament that the helpers live in. The other workers became my family and I still talk to them almost everyday. I was in Roujan for a month, and I would recommend this Workaway. Alex and Greg are both extremely warm, interesting, funny, and agreeable hosts who are super easy to talk to and get along with. They try to accommodate for your experience and respect your opinion/wishes. I never had any hesitation in communicating with them. On the 3-day trips I
… read more would take with my time off, for example, Alex would offer to drive me to Pézenas to catch a bus or even pick me up at the Béziers train station 30 minutes away.
Our schedules were 4 hours of garden work (mostly sweeping and room turn downs) and 2 hours of bartending in the evening. This was nice (I quite enjoyed the bartending shifts, where you can interact with the guests and play some music), but I found that the spacing of shifts during the work days was slightly awkward (there was about 5 hours between the gardening and bartending shifts). One thing to note is that there was no payment offered to me or any of the Workaways, unlike what is noted in the listing. Also note that you are expected to wear a uniform (white polo or blue T-shirt) during work.
Roujan itself is a cute village, but is pretty small, so be prepared for a slower pace (I enjoyed sitting at Le Grand Café or running in the vineyards to the Cassan Abbey). You can use the bus time tables to go to some of the nearby towns, but I found the times that the buses came were often awkward and sparse (especially during work days). That being said, Alex and Greg clearly make an effort to make the experience outside of work a pleasant one, and have a lot of tips for things to do. If you gave them some notice, you can borrow a car. The apartment for the Workawayers was spacious and comfortable, and you get your own room. Other highlights included many team lunches in the nearby area, a trip to the coast to eat oysters with some guests, and a party at their close friend's home. Though this obviously varies, I also couldn't have asked for better fellow Workawayers to live and work with. Overall, a great experience!Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

Vom Workawayer (John) für Host
My time et Sept was fabulous. I would recommend this workaway position to anyone. I stayed April 25-June 1st 2023.
The work was easy, the staff was friendly, and it was gorgeous. Thank you for being kind and friendly. Below I have left my highlights and things I didn't like. I'm being fully transparent and honest so that anyone interested knows
… read more exactly what they're getting into.
My highlights:
- The schedule was always given in advance so you can make plans with the time off you have.
- You were always given three full days off and they were very flexible if you wanted to switch it around.
- Once you were off the clock you were truly off. You are a three minute walk away which is great for getting there quickly if you need to but its also great because it feels like you aren't always at work. The separation is nice.
- The work itself is easy (not that it doesn't take time or effort) but it's very manageable. Sweeping and cleaning surfaces takes up most of the time so it's nothing wild. Sometimes random jobs would pop up but it was nothing difficult to accomplish.
- I was able to do my online tutoring during my stay easily. They were very accommodating and understanding about it. The internet is strong enough for video chats and zoom calls.
- They were able to drive us to different locations if we asked in advance. This was nice because the local buses only run twice a day and often at bad times. We were also able to borrow their car once.
- There is a whatssapp group chat that is useful. You can get answers straight away if you have a question about that day's duties or a guest.
- The guests were nice and friendly (98% of them at least.) Often they were repeat customers so they knew what to expect and loved chatting. Good stories and very kind.
- The facilities are gorgeous. The pool is very nice and a great way to cool off after a shift. Picturesque.
- The TV in the living room has Netflix, Disney, and more. Lots to watch. Great for a movie night with wine.
- The dogs were lovely and always there to nap as you worked. I am a big dog person so this was very sweet.
- The people in the town are very nice for the most part. Not many gays around but everyone at the bar, the restaurant, and the shops are nice. Always up for a chat.
Things that I didn't like:
- On the workaway website (when I applied in Winter 2023) it said you can use the guesthouse facilities. This is true but only until 3pm during the day. When you are scheduled to work until 2pm (which is often the case) this is a bummer because you only get an hour to enjoy the pool and other facilities and often we would want to eat lunch first, so it was impossible. If you want to work out in the little gym area and then use the pool you don't have time to. I hope they do away with this rule as it made us feel disposable and pushed aside once 3pm struck. They often talked about the team as a familiy but this made us feel the opposite. Or I hope they stop advertising that you can use the guesthouse as one hour after your shift isn't fair in my eyes.
- On the workaway website it said they offer minimum wage. This wasn't the case for me or anyone else I worked with. Maybe during busier times when you do overtime this would be the case but that didn't happen during my stay. I wish it had.
- The place that you live is nice but has no outdoor area. The town is small so there aren't many things to do during your time off (unless you get a taxi to a nearby town or catch the bus that comes twice a day.) This made the 3pm rule at the guesthouse even more limiting. When you just want to enjoy the sun and good weather there are limited options.
- If a person is living in the living room area then you don't have as much access to the TV.
- We were not allowed to use the hot tub.
- The two bosses weren't the ones who trained me. I wish they had. I was trained by another workawayer who was trained by another workawayer. And then I went on to train a workawayer who then trained another workawayer. I feel by the time the training got to the newest person a lot of details had to be missing. Some things need to be done a specific way so I wish we were trained by the bosses. A lot of times we would get texts about how a certain thing was done incorrectly, but as you can tell, this may be because of improper training. For the most part this wasn't a big deal though.
- The allowance for groceries is tight. With the cost of things these days I would like a small increase. 60-65 euros for a week is tight to me. Also team meals are once a week, I think twice or three times would be nice, but I also realize things are busy.
- We were told that the bosses had a bad experience with previous workawayers the year prior so that's where a lot of these limitations came from. This put a slight damper on our experience. It felt like we were being punished for the fault of others. I wish we had been trusted more.
Overall it was a great experience and one I'll never forget. There may have been a few things that I disagreed with but that didn't taint the experience. I would come back again and would recommend this place to anyone.

I found Greg and Alex's profile here on Workaway and from the beginning I fell in love with it. I sent an application, chatted with Alex via video call and right from the start I noticed their attention and enthusiasm with the volunteers!
I went to the south of France during the month of September 2022 and had a great time in Roujan. The resort
… read more is really wonderful and the fact that volunteers can use the hotel's facilities is a big plus, the weather was still hot and almost every afternoon I took the opportunity to sunbathe and swim in the pool.
The work was 4 times a week, in the morning, and generally very simple and easy tasks: like cleaning the pool, sweeping the garden, tidying up the rooms, etc.
The apartment where the volunteers stay is very pleasant, it has 5 rooms and is very spacious, equipped and it was really nice to share this experience with other volunteers from various countries around the world!
The region where the resort is located is very beautiful, it is possible to do some trips and tours, including by bicycle!
I really enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to any gay person 🌈

We had an amazing and wonderful time with Alex & Greg in the six weeks we spent with them before, during and after Christmas 2022. They have been truly kind, compassionate and driven, as owners of their beautiful Guesthouse and as hosts to us as Workawayers.
We left London not knowing what was ahead of us and finding ourselves in a welcoming
… read more environment where we felt useful, engaged and helpful - was an incredible first Workaway for us as a couple beginning our adventure around Europe and Asia.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for everything, Alex & Greg.
We stayed in the fully functional Workaway house with everything you need just a minutes’ walk from the Guesthouse. As it was the off-season with not many guests, our daily tasks varied from helping to “winterise” the place, walk the dogs when we offered, cleaning and tidying, inventorying and organising, gardening and stripping the Guest Suites when required.
The highlight was helping to prepare and run the week-long Christmas Retreat where we had 13 guests, lots of festive meals, parties and joyful times. It will be a Christmas we’ll never forget.
We were always kept busy, but never felt overwork, and Alex & Greg were very flexible with our time, offering us the opportunity to explore the local village (Roujan) and neighbouring towns like Montpellier, Neffiès, Béziers and Gabian. Whilst transport is limited without a car, there are some buses daily with a wealth of beautiful walks to nearby vineyards and mountains. Roujan itself has everything you need with a giant SuperU (supermarket), a pharmacy, and a couple of lovely restaurants like Le Gand Cafe.
Working with Alex & Greg, meeting their friends and feeling part of their community, has truly been a wonderful experience that we can’t wait to return to in the not so distant future.
Thanks again Alex & Greg and can’t wait to see you again soon.
Love Arthur and Dave
