I really enjoyed this first workaway experience at this house. The weather lent itself equally well to small indoor jobs and outdoor missions: repairing the horse fencing, creating stakes, pruning fruit trees, weeding... The house is very pleasant and the surroundings magnificent. I'd love to come back and help this little community of neighbors

I have stayed with Connie at her beautiful place in Ariege for almost a month in August 2021... and let me tell you it was one of the most welcoming and wonderful experiences. If you like horses, you will be delighted to be there, as you can take care of them and have rides with them if you are interested. I also had occasions to go out at a famous market in the region and some other spots with Connie and Emmily. Just one thing, you have to love the countryside, as this place is probably the most remote I've been to in France! The atmosphere was laid back and we were free to go and do things whenever we felt like it with the aid of bicycles and hitch hiking! The location was unbelievable with the local village a 20 minute cycle away and other villages well within reach.
It was a really authentic experience and there was an endless supply of food, music and immersion into local life.

This was our first workaway experience and it was amazing! We were staying there five wonderful weeks with lovely, interesting people. We are happy that we could get to know them. Furthermore the area and the view from their home are so beautiful, so magnifique. :)

So there are lots of things to do but we always had fun during the works.
As for the free time we have got never bored. There are lots of opportunity to do. We rode horses in the nature and we were invited for different programs too, for their concert, for cinema and for a weekend in the beautiful mountains, etc. We were traveling with our bus so we could drive in the nearby villages and towns but we could borrow their bicycle too. We have tasted the fondue and lots of different cheese with wine during our stay. Furthermore we always had delicous, healthy meal for breakfast, for lunch, for dinner. Everything was great.

I had a wonderful 2 weeks at this farm. Connie, Emmily and Jerome were fantastic and welcomed Caroline and I into there lives. They are all active and interesting people - from rock climbing to Lindy Hop to well-rounded musicians - so it was a pleasure getting to know them.
The work was mainly in one of their gardens. We spent time weeding and
… read more covering the ground with wood chips (they do a little permaculture) or harvesting food for dinner :). However, we also helped a lot with the horses, cleaning their hooves, changing their pastures, and setting up new fences. We even got to ride them! Somedays we also helped with the bees or the pond or buying things in close by towns. The work was never too strenuous and only about 4 hours a day with the weekends off. Work usually started at around 9 or 8:30 in the morning and ended before lunch.
Beaware however that this is not a farm! The title is a bit misleading; it is only a family garden and property and they harvest food for their family. I was a bit confused when I first came because I expected an actual farm, but it ended up to be wonderful anyways so it didn't matter ;)
Lunch and dinner were eaten with the family overlooking the beautiful landscape sitting on the patio - weather permitting - while everyone ate breakfast when they were ready before work for the day. There was so much delicious wine and cheese and local meat so you will not be disappointed (they accommodate vegetarians too). We slept in tents outside fitted with comfortable mattresses, which was perfect for the summer weather. However, when it was too cold to windy we slept in the attic above the house. Otherwise, we were welcome to use the living room and decks/patio whenever we wanted - and also the piano if you play it :) The house and property is very beautiful and I really enjoyed spending time there in my free time too, it felt like vacation there.
The highlights of the trip were the many places we got to visit in the Ariege. Whenever Connie or Emmily had an event and space to take us, Caroline and I could come with them. This was amazing because we ended up seeing so many places in this beautiful region. We went to St. Giron for the music festival, Palmiers, Foix, and Montbrun for the amazing market just to name a few. Getting around if you don't have a car is a bit difficult, however you can also use the bikes they offered us to see the area close by ( like Carla Bayle a cute little arist town only 20 mins away on bike) and there are some spectacular roads to bike on overlooking the valley. With a car you would be a lot more independent to visit the area and drive into the mountains, but Caroline and I were really lucky that they brought us so many places - or you can always hitch hike which is really safe here - so either way you'll be fine! Getting to know the region is a must though - the people are so friendly here and there are a surprising amount of alternative people too!
I had a really nice time here and would recommend this workaway to anyone considering - you'll not be dissappointed!Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.
