Description
Hello! I come from rural Humboldt County, Northern California: land of the Coastal Redwoods; aka the tallest trees around. I like reading, going on hikes, mountain biking, making music, bonsais, exploring, meeting fun people and stuff like that. I have spent the last few years of my life taking classes part time at community colleges in my home town and elsewhere, traveling, and "workawaying" in Central America and Canada. Also doing all kinds of odd jobs like working at a pizza shop, dinner caterings, helping contractors do construction-y and restoration things, painting houses, Spanish-English interpreting for the local school district in my home town, landscaping, some basic stone masonry, music production, etc.
Lately when I travel I try to have a primary focus in mind, as well as a general intent to explore and maximize life perspective and all of that fun stuff. My previous focus when staying in Guatemala was to learn Spanish. I went to Canada last summer to learn about sustainable off-grid living by living the off-grid life. I loved both experiences. I am about to finish a really long-in-the-works project (an album called Flooded Fields) and after that is done i'm going to the Dominican Republic for a friend's wedding. I will be staying though, and hopefully spending a month(ish) doing workaway. My goals for this trip are: revitalizing my spanish, decompressing from the stress of daily living here, and planning the next few months of my life from the comfort of a beach paradise in my time off work.
I look forward to meeting many wonderful people and sharing as much positivity with community as is humanly possible.
Cheers!

Social Skills - from over 3 years experience interacting with customers in a food service environment, lots of traveling, previous workaways, playing music in bands, and just life in general.
Gardening/Farming Experience - from a couple years helping a friend on a small-scale urban farm, as well as from many an odd job and general personal interest.
Building! I love to build stuff and paint houses! such fun!
Spanish- have taken 4 years of Spanish Classes, a Spanish immersion program at Lake Tahoe Community College, 3 weeks of intensive immersion classes at Antiguena language school in Antigua, Guatemala, as well as having lived in Guatemala traveling and doing workaway for about 6 months. I have also worked part-time as an english-spanish interpreter for the local (Eureka, California) school district.
Math/Abstract thinking - not that it probably matters, but I've worked as a math tutor on campus at my local community college after having taken differential, integral, and multi variable calculus plus linear algebra and differential equations afterwards. although it's been so long now i've pretty much forgot it all actually.
Music/Creative Thinking - I spend a lot of my time making music. I play primarily Guitar (electric and acoustic, 6 and 7 string) and bass, also a bit of tenor saxophone, Irish flute, and Trumpet. I also spend a pretty good amount of time recording. If you would like to hear anything I've recorded, I have an album coming out before I leave the US called Flooded Fields which is kind of a slow indie folk concept album. Relaxing music.Age
