The first week went well with Lucien. He worked hard and I found it very pleasant. At the start of the second week he stated that "he didn't want to do jobs in the sunshine". This presented a problem as 99% of the jobs we have on the farm are outside. I don't think that Lucien had really given any thought to what it might be like to carry out unskilled voluntary work on a farm in Spain in the summer. (Prior to his arrival we had done a video call and shared messages via workaway and whatsapp. He was made aware of the likely jobs or projects that we would be working on.) I tried to accomodate his wishes but it was difficult. I wish with hindsight that I had said that "he probably should look for somewhere else that suited his needs better" and ask him to move on. I felt that he started to speak to me in a disrespectful manner and that he was resentful of being asked to do work. He remarked on the sunday morning "what was I going to force him to do the following week?". Later on in the day we discussed this (amongst other things) and I pointed out that this was a voluntary agreement by both parties and I had no intention of forcing anyone to do anything. The discussion was difficult and he left the farm. I would like to point out that I have had 12 previous workaways without problems.....

Louisa came all the way from North Carolina to stay with us as part of her summer plan. I am very pleased that she seemed to enjoy herself and coming here has been a success. She was with us in the summer of 2025. At this time it is quite hot. She works best when given a task which she controls and can do in her own way. She did a good job of looking after the tomatoes which involved weeding, pruning, spraying etc. Also, we did lots of other gardening task such as strimming, pruning weeding, nut cracking etc. She is good with dogs. She got on with the other volunteers and was fun to be with sitting around the table in the evenings. She is enthusiatic, chatty, self confident, good sense of humour, friendly etc. She really took advantage of our location and she took Shep on lots of walks. She is very physically fit and made use of the pool and the bikes. A couple of the bike rides she went on were very challenging and she must have an a lot of courage and determination to come back home smiling after such a trip. Of the almost 400 volunteers we have had she would be in the top 5 for fitness. Luisa was a great volunteer. Hip Hip Horray for Louisa!!!

Where to begin with this incredible experience…. My two weeks at the chateau flew by and were filled with endless memories that I will cherish forever. Micaela and John are the most caring, hospitable, and joyous hosts that work tirelessly to ensure that every Workawayer is comfortable and happy. The day-to-day fluctuates with jobs that can be catered to you and your expertise. I was lucky enough to help out with painting and wallpapering in the living room, a job that was done side by side with other volunteers while we listened to music and learned from each other :) Everyone works together at meal times to set the table and do the dishes. And then there’s the food….. Nearly everyday for two weeks we would sit down to eat and say “it just keeps getting better!” I was lucky enough to crossover with Kaspar, a returning volunteer that was a wizard in the kitchen. His inventive lunches and dinners each day were 10’s across the board. Micaela is a wonderful chef as well, making homemade recipes around the clock to ensure we stayed full. I’ll be dreaming of the granola and pear shaved ice for years to come. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. Each weekend a road trip was offered to the volunteers and meals were so graciously treated by John and Micaela. The group I ventured to San Sebastián with was loads of fun and we spend a Saturday dancing the night away at the bars. Doesn’t get much better than that! The property provides picturesque scenery to relax in the afternoons, and countryside roads overlooking the Pyrenees for running and cycling. There is an animal around every corner that will keep you company and can entertain you for hours. I truly cannot say enough about the amazing community they have facilitated. For my first Workaway, I cant imagine it being anymore perfect. Thank you again John and Micaela for everything! I cannot wait to return one day! Tell Napoleon I say hi :)

We had a lovely time staying with Sara and Roland and their family for a week on the farm! The area around is breathtaking and very beautiful and pastoral, and the fields of cows were our favorite thing to wake up to outside of the camper window. Sara and Roland were always friendly and kind and we enjoyed getting to know them around the dinner table, or taking excursions into town together, and working together mowing or pruning or picking apples and walnuts. Our schedule was very accommodating and Sara’s cooking was always delicious. The house is a long walk uphill from the train station but they came to pick us up, and it was fun to hike around the region. We miss playing with the kids and frolicking in the fields and would go back anytime.

My friend Ilvie and I recently stayed with Karin and her family and spent a lovely time helping with moving, working in her shop or looking after the baby. She made it possible for us to explore the Italian Riviera while getting to know the italian lifestyle. Overall, thank you so much for two wonderful and eventful weeks with you!

This was my friend Sarah and my first ever workaway experience and we had an amazing time in Santa Margherita Ligure. Karin and her family are genuinely nice people, who are very flexible and always open for requests regarding the working hours. Karin also gave us great recommendations of her favourite places, which we enjoyed to explore in our freetime. Thank you so much for this awesome time!

Kayla was a blessing to have around! Before we knew it she was one of the most reliable members of our crew. She mainly helped with housekeeping and very soon after she started she already took it on herself to explain everything to new volunteers. Apart from the actual hours she worked, she was always keen to lend a hand and saw what needed to be done proactively. But what’s equally important is the atmosphere she created, both with volunteers and guests, always a warm and welcoming energy. She really made everyone feel at home. She was always up for a chat and sit with everyone and share her taro-reading skills for whoever was interested. After overcoming her initial stage fright she started giving yoga classes in the morning for guests and volunteers — the perfect addition to our morning routine. We don’t understand why she was doubting herself. She did it so professional that it felt like she was doing it for years. If you decide to take Kayla as a volunteer, you’ll be happy, grateful and entertained 🙂

Linda was our first Workaway volunteer from Switzerland, and it was an absolute pleasure to host her. She is incredibly reliable and always willing to help with any task, whether big or small. Her lovely personality allows her to fit in naturally, as she shows kindness, respect, and a genuine interest in the people and the environment around her. She isn't afraid to get her hands dirty when necessary. Additionally, she is wonderful company—easy to talk to, speaks excellent English, and is both thoughtful and fun to be around. Linda made a real difference during her stay with us, and we truly appreciate all that she contributed. Any host would be lucky to welcome her. Best wishes, Roslaeen & David

Lili stayed with us for a few weeks and brought a very kind and gentle presence to our home. She is young and just beginning her Workaway journey, but she was open and willing to try new things. She was never squeamish about tasks and could be counted on to help out wherever needed, even with cleaning. She is trustworthy, safe to have around, and easy to live with. While she is still gaining experience, she approaches her time with curiosity and a good attitude. With each step of her travels she will grow more confident and capable.

Hils was our first Workaway host, and We are so so thankful for that. She welcomed us very kindly, and even our English were poor, she talked with us slowly and friendly. She always tried to make us enjoy and happy. The location was really wonderful, surrounded by olive trees and so open. At night the stars were so beautiful, we felt really happy. The paella Hils cooked was amazing, really the best, and we want everyone to try it. The work was easy, like walking with the lovely dogs and cleaning the garden, and we could do it with fun. Also Hils even took us by car to Sevilla and gave us a special lunch. We can’t say enough thank you for that. We really love Hils’s bright and fun character, and it was really happy and lucky stay time for us. We definitely want to go again, and We truly recommend Hils to everyone!!

Hello Workawayers, if you’re reading this means that maybe you’re interested about these hosts and the experience that you can have with them. My feedback is totally positive. I’ve been with Martin, Cristina and their beautiful children for less than a month and we had a great time together. They are very sweet people, they always put effort in making you feel home and comfortable with their presence and space. They are always available and understanding. If you have some difficulties don’t be scared or anxious to talk with them, they are very open minded. Despite the short period of time and their work schedule I’ve visited with them a lot of cities and they were always happy to show me the surroundings. If you’re interested in a mixed-cultural experience this is perfect for you! They speak so many languages and they can entertain you with a lot of curios life stories and experiences. The children are well educated and respectful, they will be happy to spend time with you and play some games. Each of them has their own unique traits and it will be nice and interesting to discover their personalities. I’m really attracted to their way of thinking and living life. What more can I say? Do this experience and respect them. Wish you the best!🌸💗

Greta joined us for 2 weeks in our mountain home in the Pyrenees and helped with many activities such as helping with household tasks, organizing closets/shelves/storage areas with great care, helping cater and set up for a large community gathering, planting herbs, maintaining the garden and lots more! What we appreciated very much with Greta is her attention to detail, her positive "can-do" attitude, her strong work ethic, her maturity and the way she seemlessly integrated into our busy family life with ease. Greta is now part of the family and can come back anytime. If you are lucky enough to have this hard working and mature woman contact you... do yourself a favour and say yes!

Dear Sasha, there are only wonderful things to write about your stay with us, but to summarize it would be " to know you is to love you". From the very first contact you had been so reliable, open, respectful, authentic and supportive all the way through - both with words and with actions - that is really special in the most beautiful way - like you are! Thank you for embracing everyone of us as we are, for embracing life and new adventures and tasks and chores here and for inviting us into your life with sharing your story and energy and wisdom! You came and just went directly into our hearts naturally, you became a sister, a friend, a neighbor and a daughter all at once. Also on a practical support we couldn't be more grateful for you working patiently with a high commitment - body and mindwise - on our fence, trimming bushes and fields, painting walls, inspiring us with knowledge about Australia and traveling and last but not least sharing time and life with us. Thank you sooooo much! You are always welcome here with arms wide open!

Eli was an excellent worker and was with me on two occasions first for just 3 weeks to cover other staff vacation and then again for a whole year more or less. I would be happy to have her work at my bed and breakfast again as she was well capable of completing all tasks assigned. Eli was a joy to work with. she ran all of the accommodation end of the property and also welcomed guests and kept the facility to a high standard of montane informing me of any problems or issues before they got out of hand. Eli would be an asset to any Business as she is well capable of turning her hand to any task assigned.

I'm so happy to have been able to have the experience of living in alaska for a month. The Yurt I stayed in was comfortable and warm, and the two dogs, Lucy and Luna are the sweetest babies. Working with the sled dogs is something I won't forget. And dinners with Emily and Gus are always delicious after working outside. If you love the outdoors, solitude, dogs, and beautiful hiking trails, this place is a gem. The work was physical, but not overly so. Gus and Emily, always made sure they wernt overworking me, and gave me plenty of time to explore the wilderness. I loved it there so much, and I will miss everything about living in alaska with Gus, Emily, and all of the dogs.

It was fun and helpful having Yulia and Masha to stay. Yulia is good company and helped us to prepare and plant a new vegetable bed and get the house ready for guests. It was interesting to hear her thoughts on Russian culture and politics. Thanks for your visit, Yulia!

I only stayed with Tori for a short time, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the heart of Wellington. Tori was so kind, showing me around the city, sharing stories and even taking me to an event and some bars where we enjoyed live music together. There’s a lot to learn from Tori, she is a very interesting and confident woman. Thank you, Tori, for the wonderful memories! I wish you all the best!

My Stay was in Fall/Winter 2022. I had a really good time. Shelly and Brei are both lovely and I felt like a family memeber, while I stayed there. It is lots of fun to work with the animals and there is planty of time to discover the area and 100 Mile house. I had an awesome experience.
