We stayed with Nina, Sebastian and Mara for almost two weeks and by that time the place felt like a real home for us. We loved every meal and conversation we had with them. Picking our vegetables from their own garden was a real privilege and also Nina and their family opened our eyes for many vegetarian options which we will take into use! The guidance was very clear and the work itself was very simple. Being around peaceful horses made us total horse lovers and being with Mara and Lilou brought a lot of color into our everyday life which made a perfect balance. Again, thank you for everything! We are going to miss you very much and do hope we will meet again!

We spent three and a half weeks with Shannan and Collin. Most of our help was in the garden : planting fruit trees, harvesting vegetables, and general maintenance. Thank you to Shannan, whom we unfortunately didn’t see much as she was away traveling, but we really enjoyed the few days we got to spend with her, such a kind and pleasant person. A big thank you also to Collin for his warm welcome, for taking us to discover the surrounding areas, and for the great barbecue he prepared for us ! We also had the chance to meet Huayuning, another Workawayer, and were lucky to see her again later in Chicago. We really enjoyed the company of their two adorable dogs ! We had an excellent stay and keep wonderful memories of our time here. Thank you again for everything ! :)

Helga is passionate about gardens and cooking, and I profited very much from both. It’s very easy to work together with Helga - she’s so nice and knows a lot about growing and caring of plants. She gets my best recommendations.

Robinson and Ligia were my first Workaway hosts and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! They were both kind, generous, interesting, thoughtful and charming, and very easy to spend time with. They made sure to include me in several activities and invited friends over most days to enrich the experience. Monte Santo is a small town but the people have big hearts, and I was fortunate enough to get to know several of them through Robinson. I got to volunteer at a local non profit organisation, teaching English to underprivileged children which was an incredibly rewarding experience. We also spent time in their wonderful garden and travelled around the area, to a coffee farm and waterfalls. I spent time with interesting people and learnt some great life lessons from Robinson and Ligia. Altogether, this was a great experience and I can't be effusive enough in my praise! I'm certain our paths will cross again, but until then, best of luck to you both and a very strong recommendation for any other Workawayers viewing this profile!!

I hugely enjoyed my time at Lison and Martin's. It was honestly the best 10 days of my summer. The work was not hard. I felt included in the family's daily activities, and the card games helped me improve my French. They were very accommodating about my religious practices. I got to meet a unique breed of goat and learn their diet and habits. The walks with the goats were my favorite part of the day. Bella is hilarious when she puffs up her cheeks, and Pecho is a comic. The baby goat was absolutely adorable. I think by now he must be as large as Bella. I also enjoyed feeding and petting the rabbits. Thank you for the wonderful time!

I stayed with Dusan and Ivana for around 2 months, and from walking into their house on the first night, I already felt so welcome and at home. I had such a great time here and really enjoyed sharing with their work and life. We worked on many different projects, mostly helping out on different neighbours land and so I really got to see a lot of different styles of construction work, among which was a compost toilet and a roof for a goat barn. I also stayed to look after their dogs, cats and plants for a while, and wow they have amazing dogs, I was turned from a person keeping my distance from dogs to playing with them and letting them climb all over me. They also showed me a lot of Serbian culture, we went to 2 Slaava's (a family gathering/feast for different Saint days) and I got to try some really amazing foods and home made drinks. I feel like i did so much here and met so many people and got to explore a lot of the beautiful surrounding forests with Dusan on foraging walks. I will also definitely miss our nightly games of Catan.

Ilaria is truly a five-star Workawayer — open-minded, warm, and full of positive energy. From the first day, she fit perfectly into our family, showing great interest in our culture and genuine care for each of us. She was wonderful with my daughter despite the language barrier, and it was amazing to see how naturally she connected even with my teenage sons, engaging them in long, thoughtful conversations. She brought such a calm yet joyful energy into our home, creating a really nice atmosphere wherever she was. She quickly understood our daily rhythm and contributed with both initiative and sensitivity — completing every task perfectly and often noticing what needed to be done before being asked. She has a great sense of responsibility and always followed through on everything she started — with care, humor, and heart. Her ability to connect deeply with people of all ages made a real difference — she listens, understands, and makes everyone feel seen. We also appreciated how much she shared about her life in Canada; it was truly interesting to listen to her stories and experiences. It felt like a genuine cultural exchange. At the same time, she was independent and balanced, taking her own quiet moments when needed. Her openness, clarity, and emotional intelligence made her a true pleasure to have around. I honestly wish she could have stayed longer — she left a lasting, positive mark on our family, and any host will be lucky to welcome her.

Ethan was an excellent volunteer. Truly one of the best. He completed all tasks with a smile. He helped with cleaning/organizing and cooking. He’s an excellent cook! I would highly recommend him!

Idrani is a very kind and polite person, incredibly reliable and hardworking. She completed all the tasks we had agreed on and approached every job with great care and attention to detail. Although she had little prior experience in some areas of house and garden work, she was always open and eager to learn. She works at a slower pace, but very thoroughly, and you can always count on the quality of what she does. She integrated well into our family’s daily life and was a calm, pleasant presence in the house. Idrani is a rather quiet and introverted person, but when you take the time to sit down and talk with her, you quickly notice how observant, thoughtful, and genuinely interested she is — even if that’s not immediately obvious at first. If you are someone who enjoys constant conversation or lots of small talk, Idrani might not be the perfect fit. But for hosts who appreciate a reliable, considerate, and quietly attentive person, she is wonderful to have around. There is a unique blend in her personality — a mix of Indian warmth and Finnish calm — and it shows beautifully in the way she interacts and works.

I stayed here for two and a half weeks, and Robin and Léa are lovely people and wonderful hosts! I’d recommend you have a car so you can get to Avignon easily, as this was my only hurdle. Everything else was really great, even though I twisted my ankle on the first day haha. The house is magnificent and the gardens are so beautiful. Loved being here!

Thank you both so much, Maria and Tatou. I really like the food you make. Your pizza with wild mushrooms is a perfect match, and your crepes with bananas, avocado and honey are a great breakfast after a morning of work. And the vegetable patch you provided, I will soon plant some tomatoes in it. I was not a very good student, I quickly forgot the French and Spanish words you taught me, but that's okay, we'll start again when you get back. I will miss you, my friend. Your smile in the photo you gave me was so bright. See you again!

Shawshank was a pleasure to host and I was impressed with his overall focus and attitude during the workaway. He contributed to household painting tasks and my most favorite his repertoire of cooking. I would recommend him to any host on the platform

It was my first Workaway experience, and it was the perfect place for me. John is a very kind host. He drove me both when I arrived and when I left. I really enjoyed my stay with John and his lovely animals, Bean the dog, Kitten and Betty the cats, six cuddly hens, and a rooster. The yurt was spacious and filled with the smell of good coffee. The bed was super comfy, and I absolutely loved the outdoor shower. It's surrounded by bamboo, so only the chickens could see me. Plus, no risk of the drain getting clogged. I loved his place. He has a beautiful garden, and I’ll never forget watching the night sky from his front yard. The stunning stars above and the soothing sound of crickets.. It was breathtaking... Most of my work was weeding. I’d never done it before, so I was really slow on the first day, but John was patient with me. I also helped with packing and labeling roasted coffee beans, and moving some firewood. John is a great cook. He made delicious salmon, chili, and burgers for me. He took me to a huge, beautiful lake, where we swam and had fun with Bean. He also invited me to his sister’s family home for dinner, and they were all such warm and welcoming people. I also had a great time going to the fall fair with them. Eight days flew by so quickly. I felt really sad when it was time to leave the island. I miss you all, John, Cathy, Kerry, Maria and Carly. I will definitely come back next year.

Patricia and Aidan are truly wonderful hosts, and I genuinely enjoyed every moment of my two-week stay with them. From the very first day, they made me feel completely welcome and part of their daily life. They were always kind enough to take me to the nearest bus station, encourage me to go on lovely day trips, and show me around the beautiful surrounding area. The work was flexible, varied, and really enjoyable — mostly walking the dogs and helping out around the house and garden. Patricia always made sure I had plenty of delicious food and time to relax with a nice cup of tea :) Their home is surrounded by stunning, peaceful countryside, and the atmosphere there is just wonderful — calm, warm, and full of kindness. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

Christina stayed with us for three weeks and was a great help in many areas. She is very energetic, independent, and always starts working early with a positive attitude. She did excellent work in the garden, organizing different areas and painting the fence with care and good results. Christina is also a very good cook and great company to have around. Friendly, easy to talk to, and fitting well into the daily life here. Overall, a reliable and motivated workawayer that I can warmly recommend to other hosts.

iris stayed her due to bad weather in the erea, she was on her way to an other workaway host. she worked well in the gaden. we went fishing, and made good food. she is a spirited and kind person that showed great interest in the town and life here.

We were truly happy to meet and host Pia. She's a cheerful and positive girl. While at home, although sometimes a bit of a mutterer, she immediately understood our needs and helped us in the best way possible. She has excellent skills, and I wish her all the best in life.
