Hayley was a super lovely volunteer and guest here. She was the ideal blend of a genuinely friendly kindness, an upbeat personality, relaxed easy-goingness, and a hard worker helping with a variety of tasks. She has a very warm and kind energy, she was always upbeat and positive, very creative, truly fit, strong, and willing to take on challenging work. She was happy to wake up early and tackle some of hardest work on the land including climbing and pruning trees, helping clean up a lot of the garden, and becoming one with with the machete. She was very sociable and wonderful to share conversations with, but also independent and did a lot of exploring and adventuring on her own. She also has a very deep appreciation for and dedication to nature and wildlife, so her time here was very meaningful for us and the project. That you for sharing your wonderful Hayleyness, you are missed already and we wish you the best with all the rest of your adventures! 😊

I had the best experience ever. Dika, Yoan and the kids are just amazing. They build a room with a private bathroom and sink just for the volunteers next to the house. I went everyday to the kindergarden in the mornings and in the afternoon I shared time with older kids to help them with the english. I learn a lot about the culture, and they were always offering me different plans to do, to see more of Binjai and their culture. Everyone waa absolutely nice and kind. Thank you very much!

It's hard to believe Caro was only with us for a month! She was an exceptional helper - hard-working, with excellent horse knowledge, enthusiastic and fantastic company. Caro was also a big help to Greg in the garden, and with various outdoors jobs, and also great with Willow. We laughed - a lot. Talked - a lot, and had some fun horse adventures. She was easy-going, and happy to go with the flow of whatever was happening in the day. Caro would be welcome back any time.

We took care of Rachael and Guy's chickens while they were away for two weeks. We only spent a few days all together before their departure, but those days were packed with nice conversations, working on projects and being shown around the area. We're really thankful for Rachael and Guy's invitation and warm hospitality. They left us a list of all the little (and big) tasks that we could work on while they were away, thus leaving us free to organise our time between working and discovering Wellington. We felt at home in their comfortable house, enjoying the stunning views of the city, the sea, and the surrounding mountains. We very much liked the chickens' company as well; we already miss Big Red and Marmelade dearly! We would be very happy to cross paths with Rachael and Guy again in the future, and we'll keep good memories of our stay in Wellington.

Giedrius was an incredible help during his stay with us, and we truly couldn’t have completed our large animal enclosure without him. From day one, he showed a strong work ethic, great attitude, and real dedication to the project. The work was physically demanding, but Giedrius tackled every task with focus and determination—and often put in extra hours just to help us get it done faster. He was reliable, proactive, and always willing to lend a hand wherever needed. His contribution made a huge difference, and thanks to him, the animals now have a safe and spacious new area much sooner than expected. He was also quite understanding when we changed procedures last minute after seeing that the current way of doing it wasn't that efficient and it was very helpful to have him with us during such a complicated task! On top of that, he was easy to get along with, respectful, and a great presence to have around. We’d happily welcome him back anytime and highly recommend him to any future hosts!

Come madre, è forte e coraggiosa. ------ I come from China and I’m currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Italy. After living here for a year, I’ve come to know Italy as both a student and a traveler, but I had never truly experienced local life from within. After spending three weeks at Emiliano and Flor’s home, I can say that it might not be what you imagine — but here, you can find all the answers about what it means to “live in the present moment.” Having grown up in East Asian culture, I was deeply touched by this Argentine family whose blood seems to carry change, openness, and acceptance. Emiliano is an idealistic dreamer, yet his travels around the world have made him grounded, steady, and resourceful. Flor possesses rare spirituality and talent — she never lets herself be trapped by daily chores; even her way of tidying up feels as graceful and joyful as dancing in the mountains. As a mother, she is strong and courageous. Clarita is the sweetest little girl I’ve ever met! Smart, gentle, and pure-hearted — she loves pink, grapes, and yogurt, often lost in her own beautiful inner world. Ivonne and Victor — I feel truly lucky to have briefly become part of their family. They love their children and granddaughter unconditionally, and they also shared with me, a volunteer they barely knew, so much warmth and affection. Even though there were language and cultural barriers, they never stood in the way of heartfelt communication — I can still recall the trust, understanding, and empathy shining in their eyes. This place also brought me unexpected changes — perhaps that’s the magic of nature. From Fabriano, the nearest train station, it takes about forty minutes of winding mountain roads to reach Coldipeccio, a small village in the heart of the Apennines with barely a dozen houses. There was almost no network signal there; I could only get online when Emiliano or Flor shared their Wi-Fi, or by standing in a particular corner of the courtyard to catch the neighbor‘s signal, or by walking a hundred meters up the hill to find a spot of 4G. On the first day I felt so anxious, thinking I wouldn’t last a week — but by the third day, I had already adapted to the offline life. Instead of reaching for fragmented information on social media, I found myself truly focused and immersed in reading, writing, and drawing. It’s true that 21 days can form a habit — after returning to the city, I realized I had overcome my phone addiction. During these three weeks, without any effort, I went to bed early, woke up early, lived regularly, and felt a deep sense of calm, peace, and balance. My mind and body seemed to work together again, instead of struggling against each other. Before coming here, I had to rely on sleeping pills every night; I brought plenty with me for this trip — yet, unbelievably, I didn’t take a single one. The severe insomnia that had troubled me for a year simply disappeared. Not to mention, Emiliano and Flor are amazing cooks — even the simplest ingredients taste wonderful. There are hiking trails all around, and endless green fields to roll in or nap on. Among my animal friends were a family of goats, a fluffy dog named Jingo, and a cat named Tigre, who showed up right on time whenever the weather turned cold. Dear Emiliano, Flor, Clara, Victor, and Ivonne — thank you for showing me another possible way of living a happy life. I wish you peace, joy, and all the best.

I arrived at Eva’s place in March. She wasn’t home, and I thought it was going to be a Workaway with the host, but it wasn’t. Once there, I found out she wouldn’t be around and that I’d be staying with other Workawayers. I would have liked to know the conditions of my stay beforehand. The first two weeks were great—until things started to go downhill. Eva, who was in Germany at the time, started asking me and the other Workawayer to justify doing extra work beyond what was written on the task sheet. We had several power outages, and she told us to figure it out ourselves using YouTube videos. We had to insist for her to finally call an electrician. The house also has major humidity issues. The end of the stay was disastrous. She even asked us to pay because, according to her, we didn’t work enough—even though the task sheet didn’t require more work than what we were already doing. The other Workawayer and I ended up having to flee the house. Apart from all that, the work itself was enjoyable, as were the location and the house. #redacted#

I spent an amazing three weeks on the beautiful island of Gotland with Sofia and her family. I honestly received so much more than I could ever give back. Sofia was incredibly kind and flexible, even letting me extend my stay and helping me find another place afterward. She always made me feel included by translating conversations into English, chatting with me over coffee, and letting me join the stable work and riding. Her husband is a fantastic chef, and her mother is so wonderful to be around. The work was light, and since it was the perfect season, being outside was refreshing. They spoiled me with delicious Swedish food. They also took me to Visby and the north of the island, and I enjoyed lots of pastries at cozy cafes. I loved the clear sky and the fresh air. Sleeping in a cozy caravan with two roofs under the stars every night felt safe and magical. Even though she was clearly very busy with work, house chores, and the stable, I hope I was able to take at least a little off her shoulders. Staying with her family and experiencing such a beautiful slice of Swedish life was truly a privilege. Huge thanks to Sofia and her family! Future workawayers are incredibly lucky!

Having Francesca and Ivan with us for five weeks was truly a wonderful experience! They are both amazing people — kind, respectful, and always ready to help. They gave us great support in taking care of the house and the garden, and especially looked after our beloved chickens with so much love and attention. Even when a fox attacked the coop, they handled the situation with care and dedication far beyond what anyone could have expected. It’s really hard to write a review for them, because over these weeks they didn’t just feel like helpers — they became real friends. We already miss them so much, and we truly hope to see them again soon! A big thank you from us, the chicken, our dog Oro, and all the cats — the house just isn’t the same without you!

I had the most amazing time with Anna and Steve, thank you so much for your warm welcome! I truly enjoyed everything about my stay, chatting over lunch, Steve's wonderful treats, the view from the outdoor kitchen, everything was incredible! I was originally going to stay for a month, and ended up staying for 2.5 months, and it flew by! Anna and Steve are dedicated hosts who always make sure their workawayers feel great. The work was straightforward and flexible, I enjoyed learning more about gardening and concrete work. The property right on the beach is beautiful and so peaceful, I was able to enjoy sunny days swimming and watching whales playfully jump in and out of the water, it was a wonderful and relaxing experience! I was also surrounded by their loving cats and dogs, who will for sure always brighten your day asking for snuggles and cuddles! I cannot recommend enough volunteering with Anna and Steve!

Tamara and Kai have been staying with us for three weeks since 26 September. It's getting difficult to find superlatives... They spent the first two or three days weeding – just perfect... Then we relieved them of the ‘not so interesting work’ and they built us a table out of pallets (all nicely sanded and assembled) – and we received nothing but MEGA praise from our friends for their superb work – just perfect... There was still a lot to do in the chicken coop – installing perches for the chickens... Kai is extremely handy – and so this was done in no time. They are very pleasant and reserved, but if you take the time to talk to them, they are very open, interested and interesting people. What really impressed us was the harmony between the couple – and that was really nice for us. We really enjoyed our time with Tamara and Kai and can warmly recommend them to anyone. Kai and Tamara, please come back soon!!!

We were lucky to host Lauri for 2 weeks this summer. He brings a positive, fun, and curious spirit and was genuinely interested in living & working alongside us here on our farming/building projects. He quickly & seamlessly became part of our team, both during work hours and also just during family/group time. Our other volunteers loved him, too. He obviously cares about the quality of whatever he does, whether working, cooking, or playing Catan or chess! Lauri is a bright young man whom we would welcome back in a heartbeat! Thanks, Lauri!

Our stay for 3 weeks in September/October 2025 with Christiane and her family was a great experience. We were integrated to everyday life and participated in normal family routines. All the family is very communicative, so we learned a lot about life in Iceland. We had a trustful relationship and were given meaningful tasks around the house and premises. We enjoyed every day and felt lucky with our stay with Christiane. Thank you very much!!!!

This was my first experience as a Workaway and it couldn't be any better! This is a very special place, everyone in the community is so nice. Me and my sister came to help with the new house and learned so much about building and "Lehm". The food was also sooo good, really happy that I had a change to spend 3 weeks there. Perfect place if you like spending time in the country side surrounded by nature and animals.

As you can read in nearly every review, Gabis food is really nice :) Also is Gabi a very nice woman, who has a lot to tell! She was very cooperative as I could work in the afternoon because I had Spanish classes in the morning. It was 5 - 5 1/2 hours of work every day. Please notice, that there are two dogs around which are very lovely, but Miro will be at your side a lot. So if you don't like dogs too much, remember this. There is also a lot of dog hair and still a lot of dust. You will have your own room, which is very nice, but just to let you know: this room hasn't been renovated yet, so it is also still dusty. The view is stunning and also Gabis daughter and her mother are very lovely. I had a special experience here :)

We were at Karine's beautiful place for two weeks, and we enjoyed it very much. We helped out with different tasks in the garden and enjoyed the open space and family vibes in her home. We felt very welcomed and it was easy to settle in and feel at home. Karine was amazing with giving us recommendations for exploring Morocco and sharing stories and knowledge about the culture. We highly recommend others to spend at least two weeks (if possible stay for longer) at this small oasis.

Even though I spent only four days at Tita’s place, she made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. I’m so grateful that life brought me there and for all the meaningful connections I got to make! Tita is an amazing woman, full of energy and genuinely caring about the volunteers’ wellbeing. I especially enjoyed all the conversations we had with her and her friends about different lifestyles, personal projects, travelling, and navigating this world in a way that feels authentic. It was truly inspiring to learn about her projects and see their impact, and to get involved in them despite my short stay. In terms of work, I mainly helped with organising and cleaning the spaces where the association’s activities take place, and I had the chance to try weaving on a loom. The village where she lives is also such a nice spot for anyone looking for peace and quiet, surrounded by nature. Thank you so much for everything Tita, I really hope our paths cross again soon!
