Spencer was our first host ever, and we could not have asked for a better experience. The time spent with him, his family and his friends was phenomenal in every way possible. It was an easy going experience, and we were able to talk with him about our schedule, so we could also explore mountains close by. The location is in the middle of nature,
… read more so if you are looking for a time outside, you dont really feel like you even need to leave the property. So if you are looking for a time outside of city, there is no other option. This place became my home for 3 weeks. This was partly due to the delicious food and being surrounded by nature (always a plus) but this was nothing compared to the splendid warmth that Estelle and Spencer brought to the space.
The work itself was very satisfying and achievable - mainly woodchopping with some housework and other construction
… read more jobs thrown in. Instructions were always clear and we all worked as a team, which I really appreciated.
In our spare time we played guitar, went on hikes, explored Calgary, had movie nights, played cards, talked around bonfires, and shared many "cuppas". This is a wonderful place that I would highly recommend to fellow workawayers.
Estelle and Spencer: thank you so much for opening your home and sharing your lives with us. Sending love from the UK and I look forward to visiting you both sometime in the future ~Phoebe :)

Spencer and Estelle made us (3 workawayers) feel so welcome from the get go. Most meals were communal (and delicious!), and enjoyed over great conversation. The Wolf Den was nice and spacious to sleep in, with extra blankets, a heater and a hot water bottle ready for colder nights.
Our main work was woodchopping, but we also helped with cooking
… read more and laundry. They were very flexible, letting us work at whatever time of day best suited us. Spencer would often work alongside us if he wasn’t renovating another building.
Spencer and Estelle were really accommodating to the things we wanted to do in the area and even organised a beautiful hike for us all to do together. Spencer’s parents also made an effort to get to know us, and his mum took us for a day out exploring Calgarys’ art galleries.
Thanks again for an amazing stay; your place is a spot of paradise and I couldn’t recommend it more. … read more here, I mostly ate meat most of the time veg is almost non-existent in my crazy diet, now I ended up loving it. If you are a vegetarian your in for a treat, she makes yummy! veggie meals and snacks which you will hopefully love.
I learnt so many things about Canadian & Native American culture and philosophy which will make you make really think about life, I was fortunate to meet Mehan just for a day he’s very friendly and passionate individual we had deep discussions like the way of living life! Which will leave you constantly thinking and how to really connect with yourself and soul, it’s hard to describe.
With work, I guess it depends on you what your strengths are, since I’m an athlete I love physical work, for me it was splitting wood, lifting heavy objects moving them and cleaning the lodges. The work is not hard at all, time is very flexible you go at your own pace and the good thing is that they don’t constantly breathe down your neck which was nice. You will get plenty of time left at the end of the day to really enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
In my spare time, I went hiking, swimming, cycle riding, going into town and theirs plenty of things to do. If you’re around July theirs the stampede, Canada day, lots of festivals in Calgary and my favourite pow wow. I got the chance to meet Spencer’s parents in BC let’s say they spoilt me rotten! We went bike riding around the mountains on the e bike, kayaking so much more. I can go on! It will turn out to be an essay it was a defiantly worth the visit!.

This place is hard to describe, because due to its uniqueness, you can't really compare it with anything else.

… read more go through the door, you find yourself being surrounded by a warm, caring and honest atmosphere.
At the beginning, I found myself being very challenged by the morning classes and their whole way of perceiving the world; I had a lot of questions and was doubtful and critical.
The more I learned and the more I got to know the intentions behind their teaching and the roots of their statements, the more interested I became. I spend too little time at the Lodge to have the whole picture, but I was able to catch a glimpse of what and why they are teaching what they're teaching; and I'm surprised how quickly it all began to make sense even though I had a hard time to accept it because of not wanting to give up my beliefs. In fact, what they are teaching makes more sense than anything else I came across so far.
"Working" here never felt like working; I was part of the family, and whatever I did, I did out of a genuine interest in helping out and giving back to these lovely people who themselves genuienly care for each other and strive to live together in harmony. Mahen's and Naomi's kids Devam and Sasona are incredibly lovely, well-educated and brought out a lot of joy in myself.
The place itself is super beautiful; conveniently close to Calgary, but in the middle of nature.
I really loved my time here, and my interest in the whole teaching is way too big not to come back.

Staying at the lodge is an experience for the mind ; for sure, Babora, Estelle, Spence, Lucas, Mahendra and Naomi are one of a kind! Kind and respectful they will always make sure you are comfortable and "feel good". … read more of culture ! You've got a bit of Canada, Europe and India here since this community is trying to make a system (=way of life) following a philosophy that Mahen will take great pleasure to discuss and debate with you (Mahen is teaching, but to be honest everyone will love to!) .
I chose to shorten my stay of one week because for someone freshly arrived it felt a bit to isolated and the philosophy, while in sinc with a lot of my principle, made me question my traveling plans too much. Brag Creek is a lovely place that the family will be happy to drop you in, if you ask, but it would be preferable to have your own way of transportation otherwise the winter can be long (in can be a bike during the summer ;) )
Regarding the work, I loved learning about their decor business, they know I can be passionate about business and was please to hear it gave them some things to think over for the future of their projects. I also loved to help them out in the lodges (which, if you've never been in the hospitality business, it an amazing place to learn!). I've also snow-blow the snow (very useful around here) and had a little try at woodwork. Projects can vary depending on time and need but, once again, you'll always find an attentive listener if needed.
I've been accommodated in a cute tiny house, very quiet to sleep in; food is mostly vegan and amazing (I loved it so much that I'll do my best to commit to a vegan/vege diet thanks to that stay.
I think I've covered everything!

Having Felix and Elke at our home was a wonderful experience.
They stayed just for two weeks with us, but since the very first day they merged in our way of living. They helped so much with all the projects we had: gardening (Specially Elke had very good suggestions for it), cleaning, building fences...

… read more was going on here so they become one more member while they were here. Even Elke took one day the morning yoga class as the teacher! Both very easy going, we could always count on them for anything :)

… read more eco lodges, the house, lots of windows, cut and sanded wood. The permanent residents will work every day, but as a workawayer you will have two days a week off if you want to.
What is really special about te lodge is the inner development that is taking place. We had almost daily philosophy classes, learning about what ties this extended family together: Harmonious Coexistentialism. Living in harmony with oneself, other people and with nature. A holistic lifestyle that involves every aspect of human being. We enjoyed to see spoken word in lived action and are still thinking about what we learned a lot.

The daily schedule was well balanced and we were fed 3 delicious and healthy meals every day (the food committee will always have a special place in our hearts). The property itself is just so cool and it's conveniently close to Banff National Park, which we also had the opportunity to explore on our free days.
