Life at the Den is quite pleasant. There is an abundance of jobs to be done but no pressure to perform. John is an easy going laid back host who has the patience of a Saint. He is readily available for any questions or concerns. John also makes sure that workawayers have their time off even helping to plan out fun adventures for the team, as well as loaning his car to those with an international license. Although he is not japanese, he is well versed in the culture and can give many pro tips. I hope to go back one time in the winter to see the snow and experience the busy season on Mt. Madarao. Thank you for all the lovely memories and laughs~ much love

Malin stayed with us for about two weeks and helped out during that time. What was most helpful to us was that you took care of our dog while we were away. You also made German potato dishes and pasta, which we really enjoyed. You kept your room tidy, and you were very humble and quiet in nature. Whenever I approached you, you were always willing to engage in conversation, and you also spent time playing with our daughter when she invited you. However, one area of concern for us was that you were mostly passive throughout your stay. Our children didn’t really bond with you, and although we provided meals and a room, we didn’t see you take much initiative with the work you had said you could do. As hosts, we are not just offering accommodation and meals for free; we expect some proactive involvement in return. We believe that with a little more initiative, your future stays could be even more rewarding.

This was my first Workaway experience, and i was lucky it was. I stayed there for a week, and I had some issues with my plane, but Filipe was really comprehensive and even kindly picked me up at the airport as i arrived at night and it was not safe. My work was consisting on organising his wardrobes and clothes, taking care of his plants, but we mainly focused on the English. We had conversations in English and I would correct him when was needed, we went to restaurants and hiking. He also gave me a lot of recommendations of places to go such as neighbourhoods, museums or hills. I was sleeping in a bed on the floor (with of course with a rug underneath) but I still had a total privacy and I honestly loved the 180 view on the mountains. The bathroom was shared between Filipe and I, and we never had any issues. The apartment was always clean and last but not least, the neighbourhood is quite safe and calm so it is a good thing when going out late. We had a good communication, and his flatmates are also super nice. Filipe is a kind and sweet person, he made sure I felt comfortable and that I have everything I need always. He even tried to motivate me to join him at the gym or making plans around Santiago. Thank you again for your hospitality and your kindness

It's taken me a while to write this but I couldn't let the experience go without reviewing. Magog is a beautiful town filled with the coolest people, I got to explore Mont Orford, go kayaking at cherry river, explore the art museum, and try good food all around the city. The hostel is conveniently located close to everything, two supermarkets are less than a 5 minute walk away and pretty much everything in the city is walking distance, the work is simple and you work for 3 hours with 2 days off every week. The entire staff is funny, welcoming and fun to be around. The hostel is also very clean and organized, their cafeteria is a must try. This was my first workaway experience and couldn’t have been better. I got to practice and improve my french and met amazing people. Shoutout to Josie and Katy for the hospitality and suggestions for what to do in the city!

I am so grateful for this incredible family for opening their home to me. From the moment I met them, I felt like I was part of the family. This was my first Workaway and I couldn't have chosen a better experience. Julian is so dedicated to his family, business and making sure that us as Workaways have the best possible experience. Isabel is such a warm, loving and caring mother and wife...oh and an incredible cook, preparing amazing feasts in the tiny kitchen. Sebastian and Juliana are the so supportive and loving towards their parents and each other. This family is a rare gem and it was truly an honor being welcomed to their home and life. Thank you again for everything.

Niklas was a great person to have for three weeks at my Cottage and Home. He was respectful, tidy and meticulous in his execution of all the tasks. I asked him to do. I would highly recommend anybody that is looking for a great person to stay in your home to consider him. I hope him the best for his travels and I know that he will have an amazing time based on he’s well mannered, disciplined behaviour ,as well as his helpfulness and executing all tasks with 100% percent dedication. Looking forward to hear about his travels and hopefully in the future come and visit and this time will not have to pack some wood and just come and hang out with the family.

Esperemos volver a verte ! Un abrazo grande

I have nothing but kind words to say about my time with Celia and Freya. As my first Workaway experience, I was a bit nervous, but they made me feel at home from the very beginning. The tasks mainly involved helping to create the new garden and giving a hand with the sheep. On bad weather days, I’d just look after my loving doggies Poppy, Boy and Kitty cat. I can't stop recommending this experience to every Workawayer. I’ll miss Freya’s cookies and my conversations with Celia, I learned a lot and they really inspired me, she's a real fountain of wisdom. Thank you, girls. I hope I’ve been able to give you at least a small part of what you’ve given me. I wish you all the best!❤️

Max extended his stay with us for two month and we couldn't have wished for a better Workawayer. He is very positive and pleasant to be around, easygoing, and quick to learn. He is curious to learn new things and picks things up extremely fast. He is reliable and adapted to our basic wilderness life quick. Max did not have big demands and was happy with simple things. Overall, it was a great time to have him with us for 2 month. We can recommend Max with no hesitation. We wish him well to discover more...

I stayed 2 weeks in october at the Stene Ranch. and it was really like beeing part of the Family for that time! I spend alot of fun time playing with children and riding on the property! It was also really cool too learn about cattle ranching and it was an amazing experience to chase some cows on horseback! it didn't really felt like working ever. Sometimes it was almost like there was to little to do though:) but I guess the October weather was limiting too. Thanks again @ Marlene & Justin... maybe I can come back and visit you again someday!

This was our first workaway experience, and we couldn't have asked for anything better. Birgit, Adrian, and Liza were incredibly kind and always available. The tasks we completed weren't too demanding, and we were free to decide when to work during the day. The accommodation was perfect, with an incredible view—a little piece of paradise. We'll never forget this fantastic place and the hospitality of these wonderful hosts.

Besos a ambos.

I spent a month with Ceylân, and honestly, it was an experience I will never forget. It was my first time doing any kind of gardening, and Ceylân was patient in showing me all the basics. Her garden is full of beautiful plants, and it was interesting learning how to care for them. Ceylân has two amazing dogs — Çörek, who’s super playful and loves cuddles, and Aira, the princess, who is equally as loving and affectionate. There’s also Tonik, the cat, who mainly keeps to herself but sometimes drops by for a little chat! The work was very fair — things like watering the garden, preparing the vegetable beds, cutting leaves, general cleaning, and pet-sitting when Ceylân went to the city (usually just a few hours). I was there in September when it was still quite hot, so we’d start early around 7 a.m. and rest from 11 a.m., which worked out perfectly as I had the rest of the day to either go to the beach (just a 30-minute walk away) or lounge with a book or simply enjoy the view. And the food… wow. Ceylân cooks with so much love — every meal was delicious, and if you’re into learning some Turkish recipes, you’ll be in heaven. I’ll really miss Mazı, the garden, the food, cuddles from Aira and Çörek, and of course, spending time with Ceylân. She truly embodies the spirit of Workaway — warm, open-hearted, and full of inspiring stories. I came hoping to learn about gardening, but I left with so much more... I hope to return one day.

Esther spent four weeks in Biedenkopf and helped me with lots of jobs in and around the house. Thank you so much, Esther—I had a wonderful time with you and am so glad to have had such energetic support for the garden and house! Esther spruced up the garden and helped with the cherry harvest. She prepared the boards/surfaces for photos, which we then glued together. She was also very skilled at renovating and oiling an old bed – thank you very much for this great work. Esther was willing to try her hand at everything and, after a brief introduction, produced great results – thank you very much! I wish you all the best for future Workaway stays and for your personal journey in life. Best regards, Frank

I loved having Esmerelda stay. She immediately felt like family and was really quick to help with anything. She painted, mowed, weeded, cleaned, sandpapered and worked diligently at whatever task she took on. And Esmerelda is keen to learn and help. I really miss her delightful company. Thanks Esmerelda. You are welcome back anytime.

I can’t express how much I enjoyed this Workaway experience. I was treated very well and given a fair amount of work. My hosts were excellent and were very accommodating and welcoming. I learned so much about gardening and sustainability practices. I feel like this place was a second home to me. The island is a beautiful place to live and explore. There are so many beautiful beaches and trails. Anyone would be lucky to stay here.

Astrid's hosting was far better than I even could've hoped for. She is at once warm, inviting, and full of infectious enthusiasm. Throughout my stay I truly felt part of the family in a rare and special way, that (solo) travelling doesn't usually give rise to. The kids are also super easy to manage, as well as bubbly and affectionate and kind!! As most of the inside renovation has been completed, many of my tasks revolved around childcare, redecorating the newly finished kids room, and various odd jobs; all of it fairly easy really. Throughout this, Astrid's communication as to what was expected of me was consistently clear, patient and friendly in a manner that I found perfect to work with. Astrid, I loved our conversations and music nights and I hope we remain in contact for a good long time:) Overall, thanks Astrid I had an amazing time! I also hiked through the Algarve post-Workaway (with some help from Astrid) and I have to say this region is incredibly beautiful!!

My stay with this family was truly something special. From the very first moment, I felt at home, surrounded by kindness, warmth, and love. 🙏 The father is one of the most caring and inspiring people I have ever met. He raises his three wonderful children with so much presence, patience, and creativity. Every day was full of activities: sports, nature walks, music, languages, and chess, always accompanied by laughter and learning. He cooks amazing homemade meals, always healthy and full of love, even baking his own bread and pizza. The children eat well, stay active, and grow up in a home full of joy, curiosity, and balance. What touched me most was the deep connection between them: the way he listens, teaches, and plays with each child, giving them his whole heart. I left feeling deeply grateful and inspired. It was a beautiful reminder of what true family love and care really mean. ❤️
