Feedback for Mustafa from Turkiye May 2025 The day after Mustafa arrived I was unexpectedly hospitalised for a week. Mustafa was the perfect help and support and company for Noelle while I was away. He is the most helpful, warm-hearted and considerate person (in all the world) When I returned home he and I worked mostly outdoors with gardening tasks, some painting, some firewood work (we always have work with cutting and dry-stacking firewood.) We pruned olive trees, cutting firewood “rounds” and stacking the canopy tops. Mustafa handled small power tools well. He listens carefully to instructions and explanations and he pays close attention to detail. He is very neat, tidy and clean. With all his work for me he is a good “finisher.” His painting within the house was very very neatly done. On his afternoons off he worked often within the community, helping with gardening tasks and making friends. He was often called back to this paid work to do extra days. I definitely recommend Mustafa to everyone who needs help. He is reliable and trustworthy and he communicates easily. Thank you, Mustafa: and good luck for all your New Zealand adventures.

Sylvia welcomed me into her home for 2 weeks. I had my own private room with a view over the garden Despite my limited English, Sylvia took the time to explain and communicate with me. The tasks were very different : helping out on the farm and with the horses, doing odd jobs etc... It was a great first experience for me, and I will definitely be coming back if I get the chance This place is perfect for people who like the countryside and animals :)

Pesaulhe is a very special place to have the opportunity to stay at, and I am incredibly grateful that I was able to. I spent 2 months there, and from the moment I arrived, Mylene and Jean Paul made me feel at home, they are professionals of Workaway. Their extensive network of family and friends are all extremely kind as well, and I had a pleasure conversing with them and discovering their culture. The self-sufficiency of the household is very admirable, and in my opinion results in a much better quality of life. There is fresh milk from a neighbor, lettuce from Mylene's mother (mami <3), and cured meats, cheeses, and wine. Not to mention the duck!!! Oh my goodness, incredibly delicious. Mylene is an excellent chef and makes great bread every day that is enjoyed with her homemade preserves. Jean Paul is an expert at making crepes! If you love cuisine, this is the perfect place to visit and discover the gastronomy of Bearn and Gascony. The work at Pesaulhe is fulfilling, varying, and Mylene and Jean Paul are excellent at delegating work that will play to your strengths. They never came close to overworking me, and the communication regarding the work expected was excellent. I'm grateful to have learned part of the process of tending the vineyards for winemaking. It is a very complicated process that Mylene and Jean Paul have been doing for many years, and their expertise on the subject is a joy to admire. The tranquility and beauty of the estate and surrounding countryside is not to be overlooked. The microclimate present in Monein results in a verdant landscape, which when combined with the rolling hills and distant Pyrenees makes for a heavenly view. There are many small trafficless roads to walk and bike upon to explore the countryside and forests. I'm from Seattle, but damn is it green here! The cultural exchange provided by Mylene and Jean Paul is what will stick with me the most. Mylene knew I wanted to work on my French during my time there, so she was always helping me with my vocabulary and grammar. My French improved drastically during my stay. They were delighted to share with me their Bearnais language and identity, which I was completely ignorant of before arriving. On weekends they loved to take me on short road trips to discover the quaint neighboring towns and the Pyrenees. Esbarrits, the Bearnais choir of which Mylene and Jean Paul are members, is a beautiful cohort perpetuating the history and culture of Bearn. I am very grateful to have spent so much time listening to them (their music is really good). Most of all, I am thankful to have spent so much time with the wonderful people at Pesaulhe. Mylene is so kind, accommodating, and eager to share her knowledge with me. Jean Paul is an extremely hard worker, pragmatic, and comedic. Pierre and Laura are evidence of the wonderful caretakers that Mylene and Jean Paul are, and it was wonderful conversing with both of them. Yulen and Luna are adorable, and I will miss practicing math, building paper airplanes, and playing with both of them. Mami is the matriarch of the entire wonderful family, and what a job she has done! Je suis desolee que j'ai ecrit ca en Anglais, mais j'ai pas encore les mots en Francais. Merci pour tout Mylene et Jean Paul. Niels

Pretty lucky to have gotten a chance to stay with Anna and Locky for slightly over a week. It was a very wholesome stay with them. Got down to plenty of gardening and general housekeeping work. It wasn't hard or complex but I found the work especially grounding after a few weeks of traveling. The hospitality they both showed was amazing. The lives they lead, the work they do and outlook on life and perspectives they have. They've also got such welcoming and lovely children who are a joy to talk to. The company was always great, the work was varied and the food was indeed 10/10 as what others have mentioned. They've got some pretty good walks around the area to do on the off hours too. Thanks for the fantastic time!

Darcy and Marnie were so wonderful to have around. Gentle, healthy, fun and hard working. They took to our bush weeding with gusto and pride and also spring cleaned our small shack beautifully. They also connected well with our kids, teaching them how to crochet and made some hats with them , which they are thrilled about. I cant recommend them more highly.

It was an absolute pleasure to pass a month in the rugged countryside of Comares and Benamargosa, Andalucía!! David and Jacqui welcomed us warmly in mid-February, and overall we found our experience here to be a lovely and active getaway. David assigned us a plethora of tasks including, but not limited to, painting, building retaining walls, water runs (at a gorgeous well with a view), caring for the dogs, weeding, gardening, and cleaning. We got to meet his friends as well, a great group of expats who have been living, like David and Jacqui, in Andalucía for decades. Overall, my girlfriend and I savored our time here and cherish this memory. Muchas gracias chicos :)

Well well well, I spent 5 weeks on Phil's property, I loved it here and it was exactly what I was looking for. He is the soil guru, I loved my time here and became pretty connected with him and his family. You get out what you put in, I worked hard but that's what my intention was. I worked for 2 hours in the morning which allowed me to have the rest of the day free, which was super flexible. I helped set up new garden beds, pick tomatoes, clear garden rows, landscaped, whipper snipped and shovelled dirt. I became super close with Phil and we bounced off each other, it really touched a spot I needed in South WA. I learnt so much about organic food, soil, alternative farming methods and became super involved in his vision for an interactive garden for kids to eventually learn from and to teach others about pure organic methods. The camping is a little primitive, best suited to someone self sufficient, I was living in my van but he has a goal to set up a nice camp spot with construction underway. Good luck with the edible food festival :)

Thanks Gabriel for having me. I fulfill my wish to witness the early stage of the agroforestry farm here. Meantime, I had such unique experience to harvest Açaí and taste the fruits I have never seen before. I'm very grateful to have this authentic Brazilian experience. Gabriel is full of passion about what he is doing and it is great to see my peer working on the something I very much endorse. He is also fun and energetic. This makes me feeling I'm hanging out with my friends. Also, I appreciate it very much he connects me with other friends, later become my friends and hosts. There are many things to do. We went to the river and weekend going to the town. The only thing to remind is to bring repellent before coming here. The mosquitoes here are not jokes for people who didn't live in rainforest environment, kkkk. Thanks, Gab! Hope to see you again, pal!

Ozge was an amazing volunteer and such a lovely person to have around. She shared so much about her culture in Turkey, which brought a special touch to our days. She helped a lot around the house and stayed with us for a month — long enough to truly become part of the family. Thanks Ozge for all the work, your good vibes, and the beautiful energy you brought. You’re always welcome back!

David and Catherine made me feel right at home. They are incredibly kind and welcoming, and you can feel how much they care about the community. It’s a laid-back, judgment-free, and fun atmosphere. My favorite was the game nights :) It’s a bit remote but getting there with shuttle or bus options is doable. David and Catherine can help you with different transportation options. It's super convenient if you’re traveling between Guatemala and El Salvador, as they’re right on the highway near the border. It's also just 20 minutes from a beautiful beach for off-days, and there are swimming pools at a local spot next door. Food - It's within walking distance to small shops for basic cooking essentials, a short drive to supermarkets, lunches are provided on work days, and a couple of other community meals are provided throughout the week. On weekends we had the opportunity to go with the hosts to waterfalls, waterparks, and even the rodeo. I appreciated the simplicity—there’s no hot water, no air conditioning, mostly dorm beds, and a shared kitchen. But there’s also Starlink wifi, which makes it perfect for digital nomads like me and a peaceful life in nature with kind people.

Dear readers and dear Nina! It was such a blast to spend time at Nina's beautiful home in Istria. Besides her wonderful garden with many herbs and fruit trees, we were able to chop trees, stack firewood, dig a hole while it was an awesome challenge to use the demolition hammer, learn cooking skills, collect wild asparagus, prepare yummy filled figtree leaves, clean up the garden :) Nina cooked so great for us and we learnt many different ways of preparing healthy and different food. Nina is a great communicator and we easily found ways to figure out what we want to learn and how we could match each other's expectations. It was a blessing to have all this deep and small talks with her as she knows do much about psychology, constructions, food, sociology, science, nature and and and :) You should definitely visit Nina when in Istra, you will not regret it and she can always use a good hand! So! Nina, thank you from all of our hearts for this inspiring week at your place, we took so much from it :)

Highly recommended! Dror and Rotem are an enthusiastic couple with a wonderful attitude and great willingness to contribute. Both are calm, cheerful individuals, always eager to learn and help as much as possible. They integrated very well into our family and always respected the house rules. They were very affectionate with our daughters and our animals. Thanks to their help, Mr. AA now has a lovely Mediterranean-style little house, which he is very grateful for. They supported us in a variety of tasks: we built fences, repaired a sheep chute, poured concrete for planting beds, harvested tomatoes and rose hips, made jams, completed various DIY projects, and so much more. We enjoyed meaningful conversations and cultural exchange, and we especially appreciated the dishes they prepared, some of which will now become part of our family’s cuisine. As a family, we are truly happy that they felt welcomed and enjoyed the meals and moments we shared. To future hosts: don’t hesitate to receive them, they still have many adventures ahead on their journey through South America. Fully recommended! Warm wishes from all of us :) You’re always welcome here—see you again soon!

We had a mixed experience during our time at Haley and Wagner’s farm. While they are kind, dedicated people who genuinely want to care for the animals, there were a number of aspects that made our stay difficult. They were always open to questions and did their best to support us during our stay. Haley is a fantastic cook, preparing delicious vegan meals twice a day with plenty of variety. The work itself was manageable — feeding and cleaning the animals, walking the dogs, and cleaning the kitchen. There was always free time, and the hosts were flexible with the schedule. However, we did encounter several challenges during our stay. The cleanliness of the place was a concern. While we understand that farm life comes with its messes (we both have experience with simple lifestyles), we were surprised by how much leftover food was left around, which attracted bugs, especially in the kitchen. The farm’s infrastructure also felt disorganised. Many tasks seemed to be delayed or unfinished, and equipment was often broken or missing. Most of these issues were mentioned, but not proactively addressed. The dogs, although lovable, were very undisciplined, which led to frequent fights that were only addressed by shouting or isolating the dogs in cages. In some cases, we realised no water was given to the dogs in the cages (definitely not on purpose, but still). Also, they generally would need more attention, such as discipline training, nail trims, baths, and more walks. In general, more animals are brought in, while the current infrastructure and manpower are not enough. Another issue we had was the lack of involvement from the hosts in daily farm tasks, or showing things to the newcomer volunteer. While it was clear that Haley and Wagner were doing their best to manage everything, we often felt like we were left to deal with the chaos. We did end up leaving after a week, despite originally planning to stay for two weeks. While we understand that farm life can be unpredictable, we were looking for a more structured environment where the animals and tasks were better managed. That being said, Haley and Wagner were very understanding and supportive when we explained our decision to leave, and they took us to the bus station the next day.

Grazie Luca

We spent a month at Julie’s place and it was an unforgettable experience. Julie is funny, kind, welcoming, and truly cool. She’s also an amazing cook, and her two adorable dogs, Lucy and Roux, completely stole our hearts. Her home is very comfortable, with a private bedroom and bathroom for volunteers — it truly feels like home. This is without a doubt the best volunteering experience we’ve had so far: everything is well organized, we never lacked anything, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. The work is simple and enjoyable: we walked the dogs at least twice a day. They’re both incredibly sweet, love going to the river, and each has her own personality — Lucy is playful and Roux is full of affection. We also helped with tidying, cleaning, and some small DIY tasks. We shared great moments with Julie, who showed us around the area, and we also had time to explore the town on our own. It’s with a lot of emotion that we leave. Please take good care of Julie — she truly deserves it. Thank you for everything!

I had the pleasure of staying at Grace and Antonio's beautiful home in Quarazzana-Fivizzano — a fascinating place nestled in the Tuscan hills, where you feel like you can touch the sky and grab the clouds! They are warm, friendly, and respectful hosts, surrounded by lovely animals in a peaceful and quiet setting. The house itself is simply perfect. My main contribution was helping with digital tasks: I created a website for Grace (gracexpresstranslations.com), set up her Instagram page, updated her LinkedIn profile, and designed business cards to support her translation and teaching work. Beyond the work, we shared meaningful conversations, delicious meals, and beautiful moments exploring the area together — a true cultural exchange that made the experience even more enriching. I also formed a special bond with one of their cats, Rex, who I already miss dearly. It was a wonderful and inspiring experience, and I truly hope to return soon. Grazie e a presto!

I had a magical time on this workaway. From my first interaction with Melissa even before I arrived in Jamaica, she was incredibly friendly and helpful and gave me lots of useful advice! The location of the house itself was perfect with breathtaking views of the mountains, a very peaceful environment. I had a lot of fun sanding and varnishing furniture, working with natural materials like bamboo and painting and cleaning as well as helping out on the land. And even had a few trips into town to buy materials for the house. Melissa also recommended places for us to go and explore at the weekend which was super kind of her! Jamaica is a stunning island and this workaway felt like the best way to explore it properly. Everyone at the house was lovely! And I am so grateful to Nick who was looking after us, he was very kind and helpful, and his cooking was delicious! I got on really well with the rest of the workawayers, we were like a little family. We had so much fun together and there was a lot of laughter! I am so grateful to Melissa and her whole team for a wonderful experience! I would recommend this workaway to everyone and I am certain I wil be back soon!! Thank you again! ❤️🙏🏿
