Staying with Teresa and her family was such an amazing cultural experience. Teresa is an incredible host and will immerse you in her little Ortiguieran community, which is amazing! In terms of work, Teresa had me working in the garden- weeding, trimming, pressure washing and organizing, which was difficult but incredibly satisfying and work that I personally enjoy. I tried (and cooked) so many different foods, met lots of local townspeople, and got to see so much of the nature in northern Galicia- all thanks to Teresa and her family! This will be a special 2 weeks that I will think of often... would highly recommend!!

The two good friends Ilaria and Leticia joined us in 11 days in July. They helped us with different tasks, such as weeding and watering the kitchen garden, cleaning up and painting in the barn. They also took daily care of the chickens, walked the dogs. They are really great animal lovers, and the dogs loved to be with them. Ilaria and Leticia are wonderful and clever girls to be around, always in good mood, helping us a lot, and suggested good solutions in the practical work. It has been a pleasure to have them here as Workawayers, and we give them our best words.

Paige was an exceptional workawayer. She is hardworking, strong, well-organized, easy to get along with, and very enthusiastic about life. She brought joy to the house and was very good at socializing with others in the house and the small town where we live. She did an incredible job cleaning and organizing the garage at my house, as well as an outdoor area that needed some work, and the garden. She notices what needs to be done and takes care of it. She is also very good with children. My nephews loved her. She became another member of the family during the two weeks she was at my house. I highly recommend her. Paige, you will always be welcome in Ortigueira. Gracias por tu ayuda.

These two weeks with Madhura were nothing like I expected - and everything I needed. I came with anxiety, doubt, and the noise of the world still buzzing in my head. I left with more trust, more strength, and a deeper connection to silence, presence, and purpose. If you come here, come with your heart open. Come ready to listen - not just to him, but to nature, to the rhythm of your breath, to the part of you that you’ve been avoiding. Bring your willingness. Bring your weirdness. Bring your whole heart. Thank you for the stillness, the rhythm, the soil, the sun. May many more find what I found here - whatever it is they didn’t even know they were seeking. Forever grateful for this experience.

I loved my time at Emmy's place! She teached me so much about plants, harvesting and basically running your own little ecofarm. I also enjoyed the social aspect; the lovely shared meals and even a nice trip to the farmers market. Everyday was a treat. I hope to go back to Emmy's little paradise very soon! Thank you, Emmy :-).

I can only recommend this farm. I stayed there for a month in July and I absolutely loved it. We worked 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. You get a private room and 2 days off. The host were also really nice. Cho is really funny and talkative while Cheongseon is a bit more quite but super lovely (her food is amazing by the way). I can't wait to be back next year.

We really enjoyed hosting Mirka at our place!:-) She is hardworking and she has the inner motivation, which is rare these days. She fit with ease in our hectic and sometimes chaotic schedule. She is easy to cooperate with but she can also work independently. Mirka got our hedges in shape, dealt with weeds, looked after our dogs, spend some nice time with our son, accompanied us on trips,... We enjoyed our time together. She was like a part of our family and we already miss her. :'-)

Thanks Alois for every moment in your little paradise! I stayed two weeks at Alois' farm and I enjoyed it a lot. The work in the first week focused mainly on gardening, making hay, weeding, making paths for the vegetable beds, and harvesting. And of course some evening sessions preparing apples, yellow plums, figs, or white currant for jam-making :D In the second week, the destruction of the old kitchen kept me, other volunteers, and of course Alois quite busy. It was a lot of fun to crush the old kitchen furniture, use the percussion hammer to remove the tiles. Cheers to our music-driven concrete-late-night-shift, we made it :D Overall, I'm super happy that I had the chance to learn more mechanical work techniques besides all the gardening skills! Usually, I used my free time for some hikes or runs in the beautiful surroundings or went for a swim at the natural pool. I can definitely recommend to visit Höllental, Ötschergräben, and the little wineries along the Danube river. Big thanks to Alois for teaching me new skills, letting me pick all the lovely berries, all the nice talks, and the joint meals! :)

We absolutely loved our 5 weeks volunteering. The team is extraordinary — genuinely kind-hearted people from whom we learned so much. When it came to accommodation and food, they always went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed (and more). Throughout our missions, we had the chance to immerse ourselves deeply in several villages on Lembeh Island, as well as in the vibrant community of Teep village. The environmental projects were fascinating and incredibly diverse — from mangrove conservation and plastic recycling to seagrass monitoring, socio-environmental studies, and even biogas systems. For diving lovers, everything is right there at the NGO’s base: you can get your PADI certification, go fun diving, or rent snorkeling gear. We’re leaving Manado with heavy hearts but unforgettable memories — and lifelong friends ❤️ Terima kasih banyak teman-teman. Sampai Jumpa Lagi - A bientôt 🇮🇩❤️🇫🇷

Staying with Chrystalleni at the Mother House was one of the most meaningful parts of my time in Cyprus. From day one, I felt welcomed and trusted. The atmosphere was warm, creative, and full of care. I appreciated the balance between structure and freedom, and the way each person’s contribution was valued. I helped with daily chores, cooking, and participated in shared conversations that were thoughtful and real. The space is alive with intention and kindness. Thank you, Chrystalleni, for opening your home and for holding space for stories, healing, and presence. I’m leaving with gratitude and inspiration. Izzeddin

It was my first experience as a workawayer, and I honestly think it could't have been better. Fran is very experienced in terms of off grid living and working with people. There is so much one can learn from him. The farm lays in a beautiful scenery, the silence and peace is priceless. The two weeks I spent with Fran and Chiara was a very meaningful experience for me. I had tasks around the house, like cleaning and arranging things, pruning olive trees and different maintanance tasks. It was not easy because of the heat, the sun and the humidity, but totally worth it. I learnt a lot about off grid living, and since I had much time off I had the opportunity to learn about myself too. This place allowed me to slow down and take a break from people and all the information that gets dumped on you in the cities.

From the very first day, she welcomed me with rare warmth and generosity. Living with her was like entering a little world full of poetry, art, nature, and authenticity. I was fortunate to discover her adorable cats, her meaningful habits, and the wonderful places she kindly introduced me to. What struck me most was Niseema's human richness: our deep conversations, her outlook on art, life, and especially theater, nourished me enormously. She allowed me to learn, practice, express myself, and grow as an artist, generously sharing her knowledge and passion with me. Meeting some of her friends was also a true joy: inspiring, welcoming people, with whom I shared simple and sincere moments. I am deeply grateful for this experience. Thank you, Niseema, for opening your home, your heart, and your artistic universe to me. Those who are lucky enough to cross your path can expect a deeply human and enriching encounter.

Staying at the Horse Stables was one of the most special highlights of my travels. Saita is absolutely amazing – passionate, sweet, knowledgeable, and truly has a heart of gold. Her dedication to the horses and to sharing Lao culture is inspiring. This was such a unique way to experience life in Laos - slowing down, staying in one place a little longer, and really immersing myself in the local way of living. I felt really welcomed into the homestay environment. I’d highly recommend this to anyone looking to deepen their experience with horses, contribute to a meaningful project, and embrace Lao culture. It’s perfect for digital nomads or slow travellers who are happy with a relaxed pace of life, enjoy helping out around the homestay and stables, and want to connect with other volunteers, guests, and the lovely Lao staff. Thank you, Saita – this will forever be a cherished memory for me! 🐴🇱🇦

We had a lovely week with Gerard and Patricia. It's a really nice property with all kinds of gardens and trees. Our room and the kitchen were really spacious and cozy. We enjoyed our own meals as well as the dinners they prepared for us. We could learn a lot about a self sustained lifestyle and healthy nutrition, from their many books as well as their own experience. We got inspired to try new recipes and freeze drying on our own. They were also really helpful in showing us the hiking options in the region and even taking us there. We helped with whatever had to be done around the property and did our own thing in the afternoons. Overall, it was a really enjoyable stay and we could get a glimpse of what this kind of lifestyle means on a daily basis.

To future Workaway hosts, I had the pleasure of hosting Kristina for three nights, and despite the short stay, she left an incredible mark on my family. Tini’s warmth and joy filled our home, making the two full days we spent together truly memorable. Tini may seem shyer in person than her vibrant profile picture suggests, but she opens up with heartfelt sincerity. Her messages and conversations are always warm and kind, creating an instant connection. Her gentle, open personality makes her a delight to host, bringing a comforting energy to any space. Tini was exceptional with my children, Volvo (we actually typed Vulvul since his name is Vulcan, but there would be some misunderstanding, so I think it’s a cool idea to make it Volvo) and Remi. Volvo adored her, insisting on holding only her hand during outings, a clear sign of the trust and bond she built with him. Even Remi, who is typically hesitant with others (only recently allowing her grandmother to hold her occasionally at one year old), stayed calm and content when Tini held her while I stepped away briefly. Tini engaged the kids with patience and playfulness, reading German books with Volvo, who loved her company. Her ability to connect with them—whether exploring a nearby town or joining us at a beautiful mountain temple—created heartwarming memories for our family. Tini’s enthusiasm for cultural exchange shone through in her thoughtful recommendations, like suggesting stunning places in Miaoli that even locals might miss. Her confidence in sharing her preferences for food or destinations, without being pushy, added a refreshing dynamic. She even inspired another workawayer with her openness. A highlight was when both kids napped during a car ride to one of her recommended spots—a rare event for Volvo—allowing us to dive into deep conversations about parenting, cultures, and even German corn 😂😂. Her charming habit of munching raw carrots like a rabbit was a fun, endearing touch. Despite my busy Montessori training schedule, Tini made time for a meaningful yoga session, encouraging me to reconnect with yoga and meditation. Her kind words and positive spirit motivated me to make more time for myself and inspired me to continue hosting workawayers. She stayed in a spacious room in our home and embraced authentic Taiwanese life, including local dishes, with gratitude and enthusiasm. Tini is a gem—reliable, warm, and fantastic with children. Her ability to connect deeply, share openly, and bring positivity makes her an ideal workawayer. My family is grateful for the fate that brought her to us, and I wholeheartedly recommend her to any host looking for a thoughtful, engaging, and heartfelt guest. With appreciation, Vivienne & Family

Grace was a very pleasant person to have around. She was more on the quiet side but always smiling and constantly offering if she could help. In the 2 months that she stayed with us she tended mostly to our livestock and house pets. She was some what of an animal whisperer to one of our dogs who had trouble listening to anyone else. Her days consisted of feeding, watering and grooming the donkey, sheep, alpacas , chickens and dogs . In her spare time she watered, weeded and cared for the plants in our 70x40 garden. Outside the garden she was especially challenged at keeping the hummingbird feeders full. We must have been feeding 50 hummingbird families . She kept the house plants watered and the ferns on the porches and decks. Grace also helped with dishes after dinner and would occasionally join in on a card or board game. She never lost to a game of Catan so beware. We will miss her kind smile and willingness to join in and help out. Therese and Rich.
