We had an amazing Workaway experience in Slovenia! Barbara, Zoran, and David Luca truly made us feel like part of the family. They introduced us to Slovenian food and culture, their family and friends, and so many beautiful places. We worked and played together; from doing yard work, cooking, and cleaning, to playing games, making music, and chatting. One weekend, we all went chestnut hunting, which we had never done before but really enjoyed. Communication was easy (they all speak English well), and the work was not difficult (basically tasks we’d do at our own home). We loved spending time with this wonderful family, and already miss the campsite cookouts, jam sessions, and laughter. We highly recommend this Workaway!

This was my first workaway exchange so I was not sure what to expect, but the 2,5 months I spent with my hostfamily in Egilsstadir were just the most special and wonderful time for me. Before I came, they made sure to answer all my questions and then picked me up from the airport. From the moment I first met them they did everything to make me feel welcome and at home. I had a lovely room for myself and got a printed schedule which was very helpful for me so I always knew what was going on. In general the “work” was super easy: The weeks my hostmum was working I spent time with the family’s daughter, walked the dog 2-3 times a day and did some cooking in the evening. The daughter of the family is sooo sweet and creative so it was always a lot of fun to play with her, draw pictures or just talk. I also fell in love with their cute dog, Bangsi, who is just the sweetest boy <3 My hostmum was incredible generous and helpful, she always answered my questions and did everything so I could feel at home and have the best time in Iceland. She also let me use their second car which was amazing as I had plenty of free time and could explore the East of Iceland. There are beautiful waterfalls, a stunning forest, a big lake and lots of smaller towns to see so there were so many opportunities to hike and enjoy nature without it being touristic or crowded at all. Egilsstadir itself is a small but very nice town with a lot of beautiful spots to explore – I really loved it! I’m very grateful for this wonderful time in Iceland as well as my lovely host family and I cannot recommend them enough. Thank you so much, I wish you all the best!

We had a last minute opening in our program and I am so grateful that we did, because we had the pleasure to have Jesse as a part of our team. Having him with us was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. His true passion was surfing, which was an added bonus for the surfing culture at the hostel. He was always willing to do anything, help anyone, and consistently offered support without ever being asked. From helping with a community Halloween party to transporting bamboo by hand, Jesse was always down for anything. Which is exactly the person that anyone would look for in a workawayer. Extremely polite, respectful, and kind, he quickly became well loved not only by our entire team, but also by the wider community here. His positive energy and warm personality made him an unforgettable part of our surf camp family. We would welcome him back with open arms at any time. Highly, highly recommended.

Having Julie with us for two weeks was the best! She is so outgoing and ready to work and collaborate in any way that she really made it so easy and comfortable for all of us. Students loved having her! We will miss her! And anyone having her will be really lucky! Please come back to visit us once again!

It's an amazing place! The dogs are all really friendly and have really nice gardens with lots of space. There's some that roam free and keep you company during the day!! I also really enjoyed the sense of community, especially the coffees and lunch where everyone ate together and the wonderful food Carmen made. The work fits the description well and aswell as working with the dogs I also got to harvest olives for the olive oil production which was really enjoyable, Thank you I will definitely be back!

We can only thank Olcay, Cansu, Evin, Melisa, and the entire staff! This was a true cultural exchange and a great opportunity to learn and grow; from the very beginning we were welcomed wonderfully, and we were amazed by the great energy of everyone at the school — even the students, who were always eager to recommend things for us to do or even invite us to different places. The place where we stayed is great, comfortable, and very well connected to the whole city. And what can we say about Istanbul! It truly is magical. We carry all these incredible moments in our hearts. 100% recommended.

Courtney was an absolute pleasure to host. She did an incredible job helping out with property maintenance, hard-working, reliable, and always willing to get stuck into any task with a positive attitude. She’s a kind, friendly soul who fit in so easily and brought such a warm energy to our place. We would happily host her again anytime and highly recommend her to future hosts.

I had an incredibly wonderful time with Natalie, Ioanna, and the cats. They are both super kind and simply amazing people, and also excellent cooks. I really enjoyed my time, and we laughed a lot. The project at the future Bed & Breakfast was perfect for me, and I’m very excited to see how it will turn out in the end. On my days off, I explored the surroundings by bike, spent a lot of time with the kittens, and, with Natalie’s help, created a beautiful drawing. Thank you for the wonderful month we shared. I felt so comfortable with you that saying goodbye was very difficult for me.

My experience here was better than I could've ever imagined. I spent 6 weeks here, after only planning to stay for a month, and even then I was so sad to leave. Firstly, the house is super cozy and the surroundings are beautiful. Plenty of beautiful walks to do nearby (and for fellow climbers, there's a massive & well-known crag 30 minutes walking from the house!!). Secondly, the people living here are some of the kindest and most genuine people I've ever met. They take you in as a part of their family and not just as a guest or a worker. I felt immediately at ease and comfortable from the first day. The food is incredible (and goûtait 😉) and everyone really puts their heart into cooking amazing meals. I learnt so much about permaculture, self-sufficient living and how to cook creatively with what we can harvest in that season. I left this place feeling so inspired. The work can sometimes be a bit physical (carrying wood etc.) but most days are easy and it varies quite a lot depending on the day so you never get bored. I truly couldn't have wished for a better experience, and hope to be back soon. ❤️ Merci beaucoup pour tout Mathieu, Susanne, Noé, Luca, Dom, Pauline, Manon, Nausicaa and Kiona. And a special shoutout to all the pets (Finemouche, Croquette, Garu & Foxia) with such funny personalities + the other amazing workawayers. ❤️: Olivia

Okay, if you had asked me to give a rating after 1 week, I would not have given 5 stars 😂 I don't know where to start! I've spent 6 weeks in the hostel. I was working at the reception as night shift (01:00-09:00) and let's be honest, I hated it first, as I never did it in my life - and I was the first volunteer doing that. This is my advice for workawayers: Everyone should not apply for this job - you need experience with night work and/or need to prepared mentaly. Also: If you are applying there, keep in mind that this a running business, where people work hard every day - it's not a holiday camp for teenagers. You maybe will have to work extra hours to help employees that could be tired - this was not an easy task But in exchange, you will live a real experience, with true people and become part of a family I have to mention an other point for people who come there to help at housekeeping: As the housekeeper only speaks turkish, has a sweet heart but could look always mad or scary at first sight (could compare her to my turkish aunts haha), you should also not apply if you're a shy or lazy person, as your stay would quickly become a nightmare 😂 I was there with 2 girls doing housekeeping : the journey was super nice for one energetic german girl (Rebecka <3 )who was learning turkish, but the other girl ran away from there! She was also lovely of course but as I said, it is really hard to work together with abla in some situations! Housekeeping schedule looks good though (average work from 10:30 to 14:30) Anyway, even if I didn't learn turkish as much as I wanted, I have so many great memories from the time I spent there and also had a lot of freetime to work on my personal projects Hakan Makhachev, Mustafa, Adem, Baran the çekirdek twister and Abla, you will forever be in my heart, I'll comeback to visit you for sure as I still have to kick Hakan's ass at FIFA. I will miss preparing the breakfast for all of you See you brothers

Nicolaj was a fantastic volunteer! He joined us during a major pool renovation project and proved to be a huge help and shared ideas and techniques. He has a great attitude, a strong work ethic, and was always ready to jump in wherever needed. Beyond the work, he was a pleasant presence around the property — respectful, easygoing, and truly enjoyable to talk with. We would absolutely recommend Nicolaj to any future hosts, and we’d be happy to welcome him back anytime. Thanks for everything, Nicolaj!

We had a lovely time! Our main jobs involved planting trees, sanding and varnishing the cabins, and planting / creating a herb garden. This is a beautiful, tranquil and peaceful place to stay. The variety of trees and fresh fruit growing there was incredible to see and learn about. it was truly special spending this time in nature. The cabin we stayed in was beautiful and well equipped with a kitchen and dining area too! Sofia, Will, Esperensa, Juan and Maria were all so lovely, welcoming and helpful! They were very flexible, generous and keen to show us the surrounding areas in our time off. We would say that having a good level of Spanish is useful as if Sofia isn't there it helps to communicate and understand the jobs, however Sofia was very helpful and willing to translate for us even when not there. Juan and Maria who we did the main jobs with and who live there permanently were fun and kind. it was brilliant learning about Mayan culture too! Thankyou so much !:)

Sujin stayed with me 10 days. She is independent, responsible, kind, and always helpful! We had enriching cultural exchanges about our respective countries. I also discovered the culinary traditions of her country through the authentic meal she prepared for me! I enjoyed Sujin's presence in my home! She will always be welcome at my house!

We had such a great time with Karina, it was hard to let her leave! Karina is a wonderful person with a great sense of humour and interested in learning and exchanging knowledge. She not only worked independently, but also thought ahead and fulfilled each task better than we are used to by workawayers (sometimes even with more thoughtfulness than we would have done ...) At the same time she is very easygoing and it was a pleasure to show her some bits and foods of Austria. We had great talks about Austria, the US, writing and many other subjects and enjoyed homemade pie and a full menue from her, which both were a real treat! We do hope that she will come back one day for another stay.
