I stayed in Kerinci for 10 days, which was a great amount of time to experience the local life. It was exactly what I was looking for: stunning landscapes, nature, a lovely village with no tourists haha and meeting amazing people. Romes took me to the beautiful garden, where we spent one night. We planted Patchoulli, he cooked delicious food over the fire & made a bamboo flute! and we sat around the bonfire. I was allowed to paint the beautiful cabin - which I really enjoyed. Romes introduced me to his friends/workers, they were super nice & even showed me how to make coffee leaf tea. Apart from that I taught English in the school, went to the local market and played Volleyball with the women of the village in the middle of the ricefields - so many unforgettable experiences. Romes showed me cinnamon plantages and sugar palm trees, we visited beautiful waterfalls and the Kayu Aro tea plantation. He is a really nice guy, always trying to fulfill all your needs, he’s super spontaneous & sometimes a bit too flirty tho, but I guess that’s just his personality haha. I was super grateful he could accommodate me as a vegetarian - I loved the local food! The room is also very nice and spacious, the bathroom is typical Indonesian. Even tho we did activities every day - there was still plenty of time to relax, which I needed after travelling nonstop for a quite a long time. Well I had an amazing time, I can only recommend this beautiful workaway in the heart of Kerinci, if you’re looking for an authentic, unique and local experience. Makasiihh! ◡̈

Dale and Jackie have created a beautiful space up on the hill, full of life and nature where you feel a true connection and appreciation for everything around you. The work was varied and interesting - pruning berries, splitting and stacking firewood, making a worktop for the tiny house's outdoor kitchen area, helping Dale to net the fruit trees, some cleaning and some gardening. Staying in the barn was an absolute treat, food was plentiful, wholesome and delicious (dates and cheddar cheese, incredible combo!), but most special for me was the time spent in the evenings with the dogs by the fire, with conversations wandering from one thing to the next, and feeling entirely at home. Dale and Jackie are beautiful, brilliant people with a wealth of skills and experience and a cracking sense of humour, and I admire them greatly and am grateful for the time I got to spend with them at their home.

It was a pleasure to meet and host Irissa. Even though she only stayed a few days, she threw herself into the jobs at hand - exciting stuff like pulling out weeds and removing entangled creeper from the side of a hill. She got busy in the kitchen helping prepare food for her fellow Workawayers and me. She also proved to be very able at Bananagram, and left as the reigning champion of Manakau. She was also good value in the pub quiz night that she went to with us. Irissa will be welcome back any time, should her travels take her this way. We really enjoyed our time together.

I had a wonderful stay with Clif and Lee. I felt very comfortable from the very first moment. They are great hosts and have three lovely dogs and cats. I had tasks in the garden but still had time to explore San Diego. The two of them gave me lots of tips. The house and garden are beautiful. I can only recommend a stay.

Alinne and Daniel reached out to us looking for a spot to lay their heads during one of the busier travel seasons - a time that was a little bit fuzzy as to what our plans would be! Unfortunately I myself was not present due to a much-needed escape and there was little to do around the house, but they were communicative, extremely respectful of the space, and perhaps more importantly, wonderful caretakers of our cats! Getting regular updates on Cassie was a true highlight. I am certainly happy they found a good rhythm in the space and wish them all the good things in their abundant travels!

We were very lucky to host Sina! This lady speaks very good English and has traveled to many places. The best part of hosting Sina is that she is one of the people Hosts hope for, as she simply finds out what needs to be done and does it. Even the very first day she was helping to put away dishes and looking for tasks to do. For everything that a host is looking for, I believe Sina is a great find. She is polite, smiles a lot, is willing to work hard and she cooks some great German food. As a host, you would be lucky to host Sina! We welcome her back any time.

We stayed on Ged’s & Kathy’s lovely hobby horse farm where we mainly helped feed the horses and picked up the poo – something we’ll actually miss! Ged and Kathy were very kind and welcoming, and made us feel at home right away. Everything was great, and communication was easy in English. Thanks again for the wonderful time!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the beautiful time we spent with you. Our stay was such a meaningful part of our journey, not because of big adventures or tourist sights, but because of you. The cultural exchange we experienced was enriching, inspiring, and full of warmth. It was a gift to spend time together, to learn from one another, to laugh, to share stories, and to get a glimpse into your everyday life. Our children felt safe, seen, and truly welcome, something that means the world to us as a traveling family. We’ll take many small but deeply meaningful memories with us, of conversations, shared meals, moments of wonder, and above all, the feeling of being welcomed just as we are. Thank you for your openness, your hospitality, and for letting us be part of your life for a while. We hope our paths cross again one day. Until then, we wish you all the love and goodness life has to offer. With heartfelt gratitude, Julian, Chiara with the Kids

I stayed at the lodge for two weeks at the very beginning of the season, before the guests arrived, and loved the experience. The island is very beautiful, Barb and Wayne are very nice and interesting people and we shared nice moments. I was working around 6 hours a day, but it was already good exercice ! My missions mostly revolved around cleaning the cabins, but that was a lot of different tasks, and we'd do it together so it wasn't boring. I still had free time after work to go wander around on the island, read in the sun by the water, kayak, learn to play crokinole, learn to make apple dumplings...and enjoy breathtaking sunsets every night. I also improved my fire making skills ! Barb is a great cook too, I enjoyed every meal, and I had the chance to try local fish on the day of the opening. Great experience ! I could have seen myself stay longer if I had not made so many travel plans. Thanks a lot Barb and Wayne !

Lucia has been an absolute joy to work with. She’s cheerful, friendly, and easily adapts to her surroundings. Despite her fun and easygoing personality, she’s very responsible and committed to any task given. Every job assigned to her was done well and without the need for constant supervision. One thing we truly appreciate is that Lucia is never calculative with her time. She’s always willing to help whenever needed and is generous in offering her time to make sure everything runs smoothly. Lucia also makes things easier for both the host and fellow volunteers. She’s proactive, helpful, and brings positive energy to the team. Simply put, she’s low-maintenance, reliable, and a great support to have around. Highly recommended as a volunteer – you won’t regret having her on your team!

It was a huge pleasure to spend a week at Miguel's place. He's a great host, very friendly and attentive. The tasks were easy-going. The vibe is "tranquilo pero con fiesta". Miguel trusted me from the first day to take care of the hostel, receive guests and keep the space cleaned and tied up. There was another volunteer with me (Ale) and it was lovely to share the space with her great vibes! Humahuca is amazing. I had a lot of time to walk around, to go trekking in the mountains and watch sunsets and moonrises from the Peña Blanca. I also left my luggage on the hostel to spend 2 days in Iruya and San Isidro (wow, no words). It was absolutely great first experience with workaway platform. Thank you Miguel and family! ❤️

Very grateful for Leigh and Megan managing so well for 2 weeks, most of which I was away for work. They have a brilliant attitude to getting things done and being flexible with a range of tasks. We appreciated their cheerful approach to being helpful with whatever jobs they were given and being independent in looking after themselves. This makes a significant difference for us to be able to run the Sanctuary, property and my job well. They looked after all the animals, did lots of garden and helped in the house. Great house guests, good company and very practical and tidy, they would be asset to any volunteering position they apply to. I am glad they enjoyed their time getting to know the animals and were genuinely kind and caring of the menagerie of animals here.

My week with Heidi and John was everything I had hoped for, infact, it was too short and I wish I had more time. The accomodation was wonderful, private and comfortable, and the food provided was over and above what was expected. Getting a freshly cooked meal every night with the family, made from local ingredients (often from our own garden!), and delicious leftovers for lunch the next day. The expectations around the daily work were clear, and there was flexibility for exploring when you wanted. I really like how Heidi and John take so much care with their land, and to explain how and why they do things. I look forward to coming back and spending more time with them in the future. Don't hesitate to message them if you are looking for a host in the area, and you enjoy learning about permaculture and living more in partnership with the environment.
