We spent about a month with Michael and Clare, and our experience was truly positive. They are both very generous and kind people, and we felt immediately comfortable in their beautiful home and garden. The tasks were clearly explained and well adapted to our skills, with reasonable expectations. We also appreciated having enough autonomy to organize our days, balancing our professional activities and Workaway tasks worked perfectly. Clare and Michael were always eager to share their garden products, knowledge and experiences, especially in cooking, and we learned a lot from them. We also had the opportunity to house-sit (especially Kit-Kat-sit) for a week while they were away, which was a wonderful experience. We enjoyed caring for their home, garden, and lovely cat. Overall, it was a warm and enriching stay. Thank you again for your generosity and trust; we hope to see you again someday.

I had a wonderful time here at the chateau. A big thanks to Murphy, who was always making sure everything was perfect! The house, the surroundings, and the history of the place are incredible. I learned a lot and explored many interesting places nearby. It was very nice meeting Murphy, Didea, and the other Workawayers. It was great to explore the history of the area and its remnants from past decades. I also really enjoyed our amazing talks about interesting topics during dinner, and we often played billiards together. It was great talking with Murphy on various topics; she is smart and very knowledgeable, and provided details on many subjects. I helped with gardening and some cooking. It was definitely a great experience!

I appreciate my experience with Mish and Nige so much and would truly recommend it to anyone who is seeking to both learn about New Zealand’s conservation and native plants/birds, but also would like to do it in a warm welcoming environment. I learned so much here during my experience that I would not have been able to on my own. Learning the why behind what we were doing was so important for me - we weren’t just weeding and planting. We were helping to eradicate invasive species and cultivate and encourage growth for native species. I really liked that our workaway was structured as a small group where we all started at the same time and ended at the same time because that gave us more opportunity to bond together and grow as a team. It helped us both during our workaway work and to enjoy our time outside of the work. There really is so much care and intention put into Mish and Nigel’s work here as well as their hosting volunteers - they really want you to take out of it as much as you can. Their passion for their land and this work shows brightly and is contagious! They are very kind hosts and so welcoming in their home. It is truly beautiful and I couldn’t have asked for anything different. Also, the meals are wonderful (praise to you Mish!) so please get excited for that as well!

I stayed for one week in this wonderful Workaway place helping Abdelghafour and Joudy to make bricks from mud. The work was physically really hard and to be honest I wasn’t sure how I could be able to do that work for one week.. But my body got used to it somehow and I got mental support from the super positive atmosphere we had there. Abdelghafour is such a nice guy! He is learning English and even though our comminucation was a bit limited because of the language barrier, we were able to understand each others pretty well with our mixture of English, French, Spanish, Arabic and even a little bit of Finnish + a lot of sense of humour. Joudy in the contrary speaks perfect English and I had some pretty interesting and meaningful conversations with her. The accommodation was comfortable. I shared a room with Joudy and her cute cat. We were provided three delicious meals every day. My internet didn’t work so well unless I climbed up to the hill behind the house, but that was just part of this very genuine rural Workaway experience. Thank you Joudy and Abdelghafour for your kindness and the positive vibes you shared with me! I wish you all the best with the house project and I am looking forward to see how the house is going to look! I feel so grateful that I have had a chance to be part of this project! 🙏😊

Lovely couple!! Super pleasant to be around. Connected with everyone immediately. I think Cami arranged most of all lunch and dinner for everyone during the time they stayed with us. Gui didn't give anyone the change to do any dishes. :) We normally only do some work in the morning. But they still repaired things, or cleaned up in the afternoon. Gui liked to take care of the chicken and duck first thing in the morning. Cami, made a architect plan for the whole future project. For the first time in years I see my vision on paper 🤗 Highly recommend this folks. Just one thing, be quick and well rested, because Gui will take the things out off your hands to do the job 😜

I had a very nice two weeks stay at Amalia’s place. I felt welcome into the everyday life in the campo, so thank you a lot for the opportunity! It really is a beautiful site for nature, going to explore around and see some cool birds. I worked a bit in the garden (learnt a lot about plants) and did some painting, also planted some native trees. You get 3 meals a day with GENEROUS portions, from products straight from the finca (and fresh fish on Friday !). Amalia is a very good cook, there is no way you will die of hunger up there :D The Internet connection is limited but, if you have Claro, you have one good spot in the finca with an unbeatable view on the rio ! Also 2 hours of electricity a day (it comes from the solar panels), it’s enough to charge your phone. You are some 45-ish minutes in mototaxi from Calima El Darien, where there is everything you could need. Overall, a really unique experience in a really unique place, I recommend it !

We stayed with Nafissa and Mike for almost three weeks, and it was truly a wonderful experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel completely welcome and at home. They are incredibly kind, open-hearted, and thoughtful people, and we’re so grateful for the time we shared with them. Their property is absolutely beautiful and a lovely place to work. During our stay in October, we helped with various tasks around the property, from barn and yard work to general maintenance, and it was always enjoyable and rewarding. The horses are amazing: gentle, intelligent, and a joy to be around. We also have to mention Murphy the pug, the adorable and hilarious little “boss” of the house. He brought so much joy to every day, and we quickly fell in love with him! Evenings were often spent having great conversations and enjoying movie nights with Mike, which were always fun and relaxed. We can’t say enough about Nafissa’s incredible cooking. She spoiled us with the most delicious and creative vegan meals, from fresh-baked bread and muffins to inventive dishes full of flavor and creativity. We can highly recommend a stay with Nafissa and Mike and hope to visit them again in the future! Thank you so much!

Emma is a very friendly and reliable person. She helped us a lot with stable-care, in gardening, changing the pasture-fences, unloading planks from the sawmill, processing herbs, sorting walnuts & washing dishes (because the dish-washer was broken 🤦‍♀️). Emma is very tidy and has a welcoming calm character. There were no communcation-problems at all. Half Dutch, Emma is very weather-resistant. I am extra greatful for her support after my cat G-Gs operation, when we needed to take care of her 24hours/day. Meet you one day in the Netherlands! Until then say 'Hello' to the North Sea for me, Emma!;)

Our stay was a very positive experience! The work with the dogs is physically demanding, but if you love animals, you will definitely enjoy it. We were offered delicious lunchs and a comfortable accommodation. Acmopampa is a peaceful place, ideal for relaxing, and the surrounding area is perfect for hiking on your days off! It’s beautiful to see how Jessica and Kishor put so much effort and love into the shelter <3

Nicolas stayed in Coolwater from the beginning of October to the 6th of November and was absolutely brilliant. Had numerous different jobs here and applied himself to each one with perfection. If Nicolas stays with you, you're blessed.

It was an absolute delight to host Courtney at our eco-sanctuary. Courtney and four other workawayers helped us get ready for our Marlborough Environmental Awards Field Day. Their attention to detail with weeding around new plantings & nursery plants, planting & propagation in the nursery was fantastic and very appreciated. Courtney kept our community home tidy and connected well with the rest of our workaway community; exploring our eco-sanctuary and local sights after daily work finished. We also really appreciate Courtney's interest in New Zealand conservation philosophies and techniques, watching recommended documentaries to increase knowledge. Thank you Courtney!

We spent a night with Andrea and Chris in their self-sufficient home. We had good coversations with them and it was wonderful to meet them. We were able to help them with the car and practiced a few hula hoop tricks. Andrea is a talented macramé artist and also has experience in gardening. Unfortunately we had no time to observe some birds. Thank you both so much for your hospitality.

Ju and Jacques have got such a wonderful place near Itapeva! We had the best time helping build a cob house and helping in their kitchen making yogurt! It was ther perfect balance of work and relax time and the accomodation was beautiful. Could not recommend helping on their farm more, hopefully we will be back in the future!

Kamil and Dawid quickly became two of my favourite volunteers ever: they are so warm, funny and open, that I soon considered them friends, and would welcome them back any time. They worked hard in the gardens and on renovating a building during the day, and in the evenings they regaled and charmed us with Polish fare and crazy tales. We had three artists in residence staying over the same fortnight, and we quickly became a tight family. Kamil and Dawid also helped with getting the artistic presentation ready for the village - Dawid is a skilled cook and Kamil an original florist (he's also a hospitality pro) - and their contribution helped make it a magical event. I wish them the best of luck in what should be bright futures and hope they'll come back some day.

I stayed with Serena and Alessandro for 20 days. They are hard-working, kind, and very welcoming. I mainly helped with breakfast cleanup, and Serena’s cooking was amazing — I especially miss her tiramisu ❤️ Thank you both for such a wonderful experience!

A continuer!

Shekinah was my second Workaway experience. We asked Esther if we could come very last minute (a couple days before) because the first school we were at wasn’t a good fit for us. Esther and the children welcomed us with open arms. We spent 2 weeks there and it was the most wonderful experience! Esther and her daughters were so generous and helpful, making sure we were comfortable, fed, and happy. The children were so sweet and kind, and brought a special light to our experience. Overall, this experience changed my life and I couldn’t have asked for a better school. Thank you Esther & family for the wonderful time! I 100% recommend reaching out to Esther if you’re looking for a school that offers you opportunities to teach, spend time with the kids, stay in a local community, and gain new friends. We hope to go back soon! <3
