We had such a great time with David! He showed us all around Melrand and the surrounding areas, and we really enjoyed meeting his friends. We helped to clean his house and rearrange furniture. His cooking was incredible as all the food was fresh from his garden. We even got to eat lots of fresh mushrooms from our mushroom walks. We spent the week leading up to Halloween with David and he was kind enough to let us carve his pumpkins! We truly cherished our time spent in Melrand and thank David for everything!

Muazzez and her daughter Alya are people with white heart. They treated me as part of family while I was staying with them. They introduced the Turkish culture to me via meeting their friends and families. It was so amazing to spending time with them. However, they have a busy timetable on the weekday. You will need to find the moment to exchange the language. BUT highly recommended. Thank you so much for hosting me.

SYDNEY stayed with us for just a few days- together with her boyfriend. I can only recommend their wonderful compagny. They are such great people. They show a lot of initiative, they did a lot of work together. They had lots of creative ideas and solutions- We really appriciated *their thinking with us* . They show a lot of detail and perfectionism. They are also great with children, respectful and joyful. They didn´t mind to prepare a meal or two themselves which we then shared. I really hope you come back to spend some more time here! Thank You both for a wonderful and meaningful experience!!

I stayed for three weeks at Ali’s place. I needed to find a host fast and Ali answered to my message in a few minutes time. Our communication was really easy since the beginning and I felt welcome to his home. I helped Ali with cleaning the house and yard and feeding the animals. But I think my most important job was cuddling the kittens and taking his dog Ricky for a walk twice a day 🥰. Ali is such a warm-hearted and kind person. Normally when I asked him what I could do, he just told me to relax. However, I tried to help him as best I could. He is very busy with his work and relatives. So, I hope he will find skillful and hardworking Workawayers to help him with his house maintenance and animals! Hopefully the hostel can be opened soon again and will be a prosperous bisness! 🤞🏾 Thank you for everything, Ali! 🙏☺️

It's amazing experience for doing volunteer here. Vickie is very thoughtful and kindness. Her sister Caren also. At first when I arrived I felt home already. I only stayed here for 8 days but definitely would love to stay more longer and come back next time. Highly recommended.

Chiho and Shun are some of the sweetest most generous people I think anyone could meet. They brought the energy up in any room that they were in and were always willing to help. I would love to have them again!

My first volunteering experience, and wow… it turned into one of the best and most important things I’ve ever done. I spent a total of 16 days at the hostel, and during that time I not only got to see what happens behind the scenes, but I also felt a real sense of home, of community, and got a whole new perspective on everyday life on the other side of the world. The other volunteers and guests who were there from start to finish became real friends, and we shared a lot together. Juan, the manager, is super chill and always around when you need something. The hostel is basically run by volunteers, which gives you a strong sense of responsibility and belonging. You decide whether the hostel stays clean, whether events happen, whether you all just hang out — and also how you deal with the more stressful moments. After three months of traveling, it was exactly the routine and break I needed. Thanks to Hamza, Amin, Der, the spanish Juan, Lilly, Anja and of course the manager Juan, who made the whole experience unforgettable.

Do you like the text? 🇺🇸 Susanna stayed with our little family in Sicily for almost three weeks. She integrated really well, was a very pleasant, always cheerful roommate, and after a short training period, she relieved us of the following daily tasks: - Cooking a healthy, vegetarian family meal, either with or without the Thermomix food processor - Tidying up the kitchen after cooking, turning on the dishwasher and emptying it - Hanging up/taking down/placing cack in cupboards a load of laundry - Taking out the trash In addition, Susanna initially did the family supermarket shopping with us together and later completely on her own, and made whole grain rye sourdough bread about twice a week for us. We would love to welcome Susanna back and wish her all the best for the future.

We had such a great time at Cathrine and Martin’s! Ten days flew away like nothing and we wished we could have stayed longer. Their property is not just a beautiful 50 acres farm land but also a forest and small creek surounded by native bush. Such a nice place to stay. We got to work with sheep and cattle, grooming ones and giving medicine to others and we enjoyed it so much! We also cut down lots of invasive bushes. They definitely know what they’re doing and we learnt so much about livestock! We also saw two calfes being born which was an incredible experience! We accommoditated the whole floor for ourself and it felt better than most of the AirBnBs! Their house is stunning! All of this would be an amazing experience just by itself but on the top of it, both Martin and Cathrine are nice and lovely people! We would spend every night chatting with them for hours which was, at the end, the best part of this Work Away. They both are so funny and caring! It felt like staying with our own parents. We couldn't get better hosts! Thank you Martin and Cathrine for everything. We hope to see you again.

Jo and Aaron’s Farm is an absolute oasis of green and beauty within the bare grassy hills landscape of Hawke’s Bay. Jo and Aaron were so warm and welcoming to us and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We would highly recommend this WorkAway experience to people who are interested in permaculture, sustainable living, self sufficiency, farming lifestyle, growing veggies and love plants and animals (including bugs!). What Jo and Aaron have nurtured on their farm over the years is a truly remarkable self sufficient ecosystem which deserves admiration! We especially loved the food forest, which is so beautiful, and watching the antics of the chickens and ducks in the nursery. There are also four boisterous but loving dogs who join everyone for the daily team coffee break. We stayed for four weeks. Our tasks included: Tree pruning, preparing felled branches for wood chipping, wood chipping (for mulch and compost toilets), harvesting veggies, planting out veggie seedlings, cutting and mowing grass, building a new planting bed in the forest garden, building a fence, weeding and repotting plants. It was really nice to be part of a bigger team with the three other WorkAwayers and the couple who live on the farm too. Jo explained the tasks well and was very trusting in letting us figure out the best way to get things done. She made sure we had variety and, although there’s a daily routine set up, was flexible when we needed it. Overall it was a great experience, thank you Jo and Aaron!

I just have amazing words for Ian and Leanne . I arrived in the middle of milking season and was extremely nice and fun work! We were milking once or twice a day and feeding the calves! The room was absolutely perfect and the area was more beautiful than what I imagined. Sadly I could only stay for one week, but was enough to taste a bit of their daily life

I stayed two weeks at the academy. It was the last two weeks of the batch (one batch has 25 days of lessons). You really get a cultural experience that is honest and true. They are all super interested in getting to know you (some are shy) and it is great to learn about there lives. The work is really easy: just talk to the students and be around. They have classes from 5 am until 9:30pm. You don’t have to get up before 7am. You get all the food you need (a lot go Currie and rice and daal) and they also accommodate for me (vegan) when I asked for fruit instead of rice for breakfast. You can be quite flexible and do trips form there. I spend a lot of time at the lake in between because there isn’t much to do. My room was not really clean and no light came in. They tried their best to fix it but be aware it is not western standard. Also it rained heavily a few times (I stayed in the end of October) and the internet and all the network was done a couple of times. So you can get very cut off from time to time Since the people were all so nice and lovely I had a great stay! Wasala also organizes transfers to the airport or helps if you wan t to do a trip. Enjoy the cultural experience! It is unique

I had an exceptional stay with Kitty and his family during my two week stay. Welcoming and kind, we shared a multitude of enjoyable moments, be it having a laugh in the car, helping out at the smoothie shop or enjoying some of grandma's delicious food! There was a lovely warm and familiar atmosphere at theirs, made all the better by the presence of a number of other workawayers. A wonderful experience, thank you for your hospitality, I had a very special time indeed.

I stayed on this family farm for one month and had the best time. I have never felt so welcomed into a family- we were even invited to celebrate both Dashain and Tihar festival. The work was incredibly fun, sometimes hard, but we were given plenty of rest and had the afternoon off to avoid the heat of the sun- the work was four hours a day split into morning and afternoon shifts and we never worked more than two days in a row. When I was there we weeded, ploughed, harvested crops such as corn and potatoes, and planted various vegetables such as garlic, cauliflower, spinach, and we had one full day harvesting the rice field, which was super interesting. On rainy and festival days we helped with cleaning, chopping vegetables, festival preparation and spending time with Adrin the toddler. The food provided is the best food I have had in Nepal, with a variety cooked for us twice a day, with different levels of spice depending on what you like. On days off we went on walks, including to a Buddhist Monestry, went to Bhaktapur for a day, made Momos with the family and explored local towns. It was such an amazing experience getting to know the family and other volunteers. If you want to experience Nepali culture, slow travel, building connections, good food, learn about farming and give back to the community you are visiting this is the place for you! Cannot recommend enough and I will definitely be back. Thanks so much for everything ♥️

Simeon stayed with us for just over two weeks, and we truly could not have asked for a better volunteer. From the moment he arrived, he brought a calm, respectful, and positive energy to the house. He is easy to communicate with, always polite, and consistently willing to help with anything that needed doing. His contribution across the garden and the house was exceptional. He picked up new tasks very quickly, followed instructions clearly, and showed an impressive level of independence—he understood the work, asked the right questions, and then carried it out confidently without needing constant supervision. His reliability made a huge difference to our daily rhythm here. A special mention must be made for his patience and dedication during the greenhouse build. Some parts of the project required a lot of adjustments, troubleshooting, and physical effort, but he never once got frustrated. Instead, he approached every challenge with problem-solving, good humour, and a steady presence that kept the whole project moving. His help made a real and lasting impact. We also appreciated his amazing cooking—Simeon prepared several delicious meals, particularly for the school trip days, which everyone enjoyed immensely. His initiative and thoughtfulness were felt in every part of his stay. Our dogs absolutely adored him as well! He was gentle, patient, playful, and always made sure they were safe and happy—something we value greatly. Beyond the work, Simeon is simply a wonderful person to have around: well-travelled, engaging, full of interesting stories, and always ready for a laugh. He contributed not just labour, but warmth and companionship to the house. We felt very lucky to host him and would welcome him back anytime. 10/10 volunteer—highly recommended to any host. Thank you, Simeon. 🙏
