Hello! I am Kitti. My wife, son, and I run a homestay in Ayutthaya, Thailand. Our place is simple but comfortable. You can learn about Thai life here. See ancient temples and meet friendly people. My mother visits sometimes. She brings more love to our family.

Ayutthaya is a beautiful city full of history. We enjoy welcoming guests and want you to feel at home.

We are a small family with friendly neighbors.

We need helpers who want to learn. You can help with gardening, cleaning, or organizing. Maybe build a bamboo house or help make our place beautiful with creative ideas.

You'll have your own bedroom upstairs with a bathroom. Sometimes, you might share the bathroom with other guests staying with us. Our family lives downstairs, so you'll have your own space, but you'll still feel like part of our home.

We'll give you some basic things to cook with, and you can use our kitchen to make your own meals. We hope you'll try some Thai cooking and maybe we can cook together sometimes!

I'm very happy to have been the first volunteer to stay with Kitti and his family. I spent 11 days in their house, which they want to turn into a homestay. There were no guests during my stay, after the first week another volunteer joined me. Kitti (our host), his wife Kwan, son Pi and mother-in-law Lek are a very kind and generous family with a… read more big house. There are three rooms for volunteers to stay in, all with air conditioning and fans. There is now a large room with a table, chairs, fridge and water heater where volunteers can spend time and eat their meals. In general there is a lot of space, actually the whole first and second floor for the volunteers/potential guests, while the family lives on the ground floor. The food was delicious Thai cuisine, cooked for us by the family or bought from the market. We were provided with 3 or 2 meals a day and sometimes mango sticky rice for dessert, water, coffee, we could also use the kitchen. And as they have a smoothie stand, there is always plenty of fresh fruit to eat in the house. You can also do your laundry and borrow a motorbike.

The work is varied and quite flexible. There are no set hours, I worked between 3 and 6 hours a day with some breaks and took one day off when I needed to. I cut the grass in the garden, shovelled the soil, transplanted plants, moved furniture, fixed a water pipe, cleaned the fridge and the rooms. Me and the other volunteer also made compost, filled bags with soil and looked after plants. Working in the garden in the heat can be a challenge, but if you're an early bird (which I'm unfortunately not), the mornings are more pleasant. It's good to have long trousers and some repellent, though, as the mosquitoes can be a bit of a pain.
Kitti generally tells what he wants to be done, but it's good to show some initiative. The homestay needs a few improvements, for example I have brought in some furniture, cleaned and provided bins in the bathrooms, cut bamboo to hang the curtains, organised the room upstairs etc. Me and the other volunteer have been working in the garden and on the driveway, but there is a whole big yard next to the house that Kitti would like to turn into a farm and possibly a campsite. There is also a lot of bamboo waiting for someone skilled to build a bamboo house 😉 As Kitti and his wife sell delicious smoothies and sticky rice at the market in the evenings, we sometimes helped them set up and take down their stall or squeeze the orange juice/prepare the fruit for the smoothies.

In my free time, I would walk or ride the motorbike to see the sunsets at the temples that are all over Ayutthaya. So if you want to spend time surrounded by beautiful ancient ruins, Ayutthaya is the perfect place. Kitti's house is 30 minutes walk from the market with the smoothie stand and 20 minutes from the main temples. Make sure you know the exact location of the house (as the homestay is not yet on Google Maps) and Kitti's Whatsapp number in advance, as he may not be able to respond quickly through Workaway. Kitti speaks English very well, his wife communicatively and their 10-year-old son like a native speaker! It was so nice to meet them and learn about the life of a Thai family.
