Hannes was a pleasure to host. Always accountable, hardworking, generous and thoughtful. An excellent community member. Endearing qualities - someone whose contributions - especially within community - are missed once they have left, but may go unnoticed when he's present. He would always have a space here! Thank you Hannes!

I stayed John and Sara's cojito for about 4weeks April 2025 during my trip to Europe! That was extremely wonderful experience:) Both John and Sarah were super nice, friendly, welcoming. They were very organised people, everything was explained before I arrived. Most of the time I helped weeding, plannting and prunning. John always explained me how to do it, so that was not so difficult. Working hours were mostly same everyday so I could also enjoyed my own time in beautiful nature. Sarah cooked brilliant lunch and dinner every day. That was one of the things I was excited during the stay! We also enjoyed watching movie together after dinner which was great:) I also miss your beautiful pet Shep and Meg! Juri.

Mikey is a great guy and fantastic workawayer - punctual, reliable, clean, respectful...all the things you dream of in a guest at your place! On top of that he was incredibly attentive in caring for my kitty - even going above and beyond to document and create some instruction sheets for future caretakers as well (so helpful from a fresh-eyes perspective)! Beyond that he was enthusiastic and always there to lend a knowledgeable hand and jump in on any kind of project as though he'd been part of the team for years. He was also great at anticipating future needs and next steps, and if I was ever distracted or delayed it's a sure bet he was self-directed to jump into something productive. I can't say enough great things about Mikey's stay and I would gladly have him back anytime and/or recommend him anywhere else as well...

Guram was my very first workawayer and it was a peaceful and easy experience to host him. We managed to create a calm and comfortable daily routine at home. He is a quiet and respectful person, always polite and easy to communicate with. He completed the tasks I gave him and was open to guidance. One day he even took initiative and replaced a light bulb on his own — I was happy to see that. We had a relaxed atmosphere together and good conversations whenever needed. He adapted well to the house, the rhythm, and the vegan kitchen. Communication was smooth during his stay, and that made everything easier. I believe Guram can be a good fit for hosts who appreciate calm energy, respect, and reliability. I wish him the best on his journey — and I’m grateful that my first Workaway experience went so gently with him.

Dartanyon and Alma were an awesome addition to our work team here on the property. Dart did a lot of the construction and heavier labor stuff and it was great to have his experience here. Alma worked in the garden and landscaping mostly and also cooked some absolutely amazing meals for us. They are welcome back to the property anytime. We will miss them.

We stayed by Annabell over the weekend. She gave us a very warm welcome and offered us a great stay by her. On top of offering us great meals, she brought us to some places in the city - hiking trails, waterfall, and also brought us to experiment some traditional chinese cuisine in the old town. We could witness Annabell at work and she took some time to explain us her journey into art, her future projects, and her creation process. Let's not forget about Janosch, her son, who brought us into his world during drawing sessions we had together in his studio. We would definitely recommend anyone with interest in art to stay by Annabell ! We wish her good luck in her upcoming projects.

Staying with Joe was a truly special experience - He lives a few minutes by bike away from town in the countryside where it is quiet and the mood is quite chill all the time. There was never any stress, everyone can get up when they feel ready to start the day, no pressure, no set working schedules. I really needed to recharge a bit after the last two months of traveling and staying with Joe and the other volunteers and friends allowed me to do exactly that. There, I connected with the people, we went to the street markets in the evening and followed Joe on the bike while he was riding his horse to the restaurant where we had dinner together. His horse is part of the family and always stays close to the tents. We had so many funny situations with our hoofed friend and the feeling of opening my tent, looking at the beautiful countryside of Pai and slowly starting the morning watching Joe's horse demanding his breakfast will forever stay with me. I felt at home. Additionally we renovated the abandoned house nearby and spent nice and chill evenings together. If you want to do a lot of sightseeing in Pai, consider that due to the flexible working hours and spending a lot of time together (which is always a good time:) it can be hard to do a lot of sightseeing in Pai. Therefore, I just stayed in a hostel for two more nights after the volunteering. Thank you so much for everything Joe, Esther and Jamila! Your company was the best❤️

We had a wonderful time with Kennly, Bob, Boaz, and their dogs – just a lovely, fun, helpful, and easy-going family on a big adventure. :) Bob helped a lot with our eco-renovation project, and once I handed him the Makita tools or gave him a task with the skid loader, it was hard to convince him to call it a day – he just wanted to keep going and going! Kennly took care of little Boaz, helped me prepare meals, sorted through a million screws in our workshop, and worked on the finishing touches of the exterior walls. And these are just a few examples of the many ways in which they all contributed and brought so much positive energy. A personal highlight was the Dutch pannenkoeken evening they invited us to – absolutely delicious and such a great time together. Thank you so much for everything. I’m sure we’ll see each other again, whether here or somewhere along your journey. Until then, I wish you lots of luck and joy on your adventurous travels!

Spending 2 weeks with Francis and Yufuko was pleasant. They are nices persons, calms and focus. I wish i could meet them in a moment were they would have been more open, free minded. Our reality was more like, end of woofers season, quite tired of having people around. Still, they were nice as possible, but i could feel that i have to leave them mind space. I can totaly understand and that wasn’t a problem for me. I like to be quiet and alone. Therefore, if you, as a woofer, had kind of experience that situation, make sure you can handle it. Being autonom is important for them. And asking for contact and sharing have to be done just at some moments. The working time for me, was 6 to 7 hours as they also suppose cleaning tasks every day. Otherwise, the place is very nice. Kind of lost, but beautiful. There are things to see around, you can have the bus coming at the foot door. Having a bicycle could make it soooo nice. ;) (just suggestion) I have done a pottery class, i don’t regret it, i learned nices tips. If you like cooking, it will be a paradise for you ! Thanks for having me. I really enjoyed.

My stay with Larry and Helen was an interesting experience. The space that they have for people, what they call the shed, is a beautiful space and has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, it has been very neglected. It had obviously not been cleaned in a long time and had a lot of mice living in it and nothing had been done to try to get that under control. I sat down with Helen the first morning I was there and said that the space was beautiful but I wasn't comfortable with the state it was in. [redacted] I found out that she didn't do any cleaning or have any cleaning done in the space and those that had come for a work exchange apparently didn't either. More than once I told her I was sorry that those that had stayed there had not taken care of the space. This was my first Workaway experience and at that point I really wanted to try to make it work. I was given one work day, so 5 hours, for cleaning the space so all the other cleaning I did was on my own time after working and on the weekends. I spent a lot of time giving the space love and care it hadn't had in a long time and you could feel and see it. I also gave the house plants love and care they hadn't gotten in awhile and they were bursting with new life and beauty before I left. The washing machine was also in a very neglected state and a friend of mine who happened to be in Alabama and knows how to take them apart and clean all the many parts that can get clogged and funky offered to come. Larry and Helen were happy to have him come to save the washing machine. So my first weekend, in addition to cleaning the space, he and I took apart and cleaned the washing machine. Although I didn't love living with a bunch of mice and the droppings they leave all over, I don't like to kill animals so I started using a live trap which ended up being great and helping the situation. I put a lot of love, care and focus into all that I do, including the work that I did for Larry and Helen. For my work I split and stacked almost the entire huge pile of wood that had been dropped off. There was a very small pile left and the only reason I didn't finish it was because the gas line on the splitter busted a hole and sprayed gas all over so I couldn't. I got five big bags of kindling ready to go for them as well. I processed over 2,000 garlic bulbs! They only use the larger ones to plant and they count them because they have a specific number they plant. I processed 1,000 large bulbs but over double that all together. I sealed up all the holes in the hoop house as well as planted a variety of greens in there. Larry and I spent a morning clearing a tree that he had taken down. I also went up in a boom lift and cut off some tree branches from several trees with a chainsaw. In addition, I spent a lot of time helping Larry with various projects in preparation of building a new foot bridge. I am grateful for getting to see a new area of the country and being able to enjoy it's beauty and for a new experience where I was able to learn and grow from the situation. Thank you Larry and Helen for the experience. Happy crossings to you both!

although my time was short (6 days) it was extremely sweet. Phonpet was an excellent host and his family are lovely, being very welcoming and inclusive in all they did. The food was excellent and the accommodation was nice. Don't have any complaints whatsoever. Would recommend to anyone looking for a chilled out cultural experience of Laos living.

It’s hard to put into words just how meaningful our time here was—this experience truly left a lasting mark on our hearts. We arrived ready to work hard and give our all, and we left feeling deeply connected to the animals, the team, and the mission. We genuinely fell in love with every furry friend we met here. Are you willing to roll up your sleeves—clean plenty of poop and pee, support disabled dogs, wrangle energetic puppies, and help with all aspects of animal care—and also make lifelong friends, fall in love with countless 4- (and 3) legged companions, cuddle some of the sweetest pups & kitties you’ll ever meet, and make a real difference? Then this is absolutely the place for you. Beyond the daily shift duties, we had opportunities we never expected, such as assisting with surgeries, participating in behavioral training, helping with physical therapy for dogs with spinal injuries, and creating efficient online resources. Carl, the volunteer coordinator, is phenomenal—welcoming, supportive, and always ready to help you feel at home. The doctors are kind, patient, and eager to teach if you show interest. If you’re ready for hard, emotional, and incredibly rewarding work, do yourself a favor and book a stay here. We promise you won’t regret it.

We spent 10 great days at Steve and Alison’s place. The work was as described and well explained, 3/4h per day. It was nice to spent the evening around dinner together, and meeting the people of Auckland at their best. We were able to enjoy Auckland, buy our van and arrange our journey on our time off. They would give us good advice and even help us out with administrative stuff! Would recommend 100% :) Thank you Alison and Steve!
