I spent to weeks at the beginning of January with Renetta, David and Lea and I really have grown fond of them! All the three of them are really kind and sweet people. One thing which made me feel very comfortable (and sad to be leaving, when I left) is the kindness and love they show to eachother in their family. Lea also likes to make some chaos, but nobody will be angry about that, because she is such a sunshine and very cute, funny and smart. The things that I did are: weeding, planting little radishes and lettuce from the greenhouse into the veggie garden, sowing new radishes, painting a door and David showed me how to make a professional compost. I also got to see the place in Maro where the friut, bread and vegetables of the cooperative are sold, which was very nice. (I am sure I am forgetting something right now.) I also happily helped with the kitchen, but they always told me, I shouldn't feel obligated to do that. My first task of all was to collect oranges from the tree and make orange juice for breakfast, which was really special for a girl from Germany. :)) I learned about the basics of permaculture, Renetta showed me how to make a bread and I learned some more Spanish and a bit of dutch of course. With their daughter Lea Renetta and David mainly speak dutch, but both of them speak English and Spanish fluently, so there are many possible ways to communicate and improve your language skills. The afternoons I often spent with them, going to the beach, chatting or playing with Lea, and I really enjoyed that. But I never felt obligated so if you are a person who likes to be more independent, the place will still be perfect for you. Apart from that I had a few beautiful walks to the beach and near the Cueva de Nerja, went into the Cueva de Nerja (which is really impressive), went to the pub in Maro and took the bike to have a look at Nerja. Additionally I had the luck to experience a local village fair in Maro where everyone comes together in the street and makes fires and music in front of their houses. If you like to kuddle cats, Zora and you will both be very happy! The place is much more than beautiful. When I woke up the first morning and got out if the tent, I got to see the green mountains on the one side and the sea on the other side, the nature there is quite impressively wonderful and so are all the different friut trees and the rich veggie garden. :)) All in all I recommend this workaway a hundred percent and I will definitely visit you again! <3

Alex and Julian! Thank you for welcoming me during the month I stayed with you. Thank you for this first Workaway experience, which was undoubtedly enriching and unforgettable. Thank you for the coffee, for showing me everything in Anadia, and especially for allowing me to care for these precious animals. My friends, as I called them. I will miss Mufin hugging me every morning, Flebag with his barking and affection, the walks with my partner Boris, Beijinboboo, Lulu pulling my clothes, and everyone else who, with their unique characteristics, won my heart and whom I will always carry with me. Thank you for welcoming and transforming the lives of these very special beings. Please forgive me for anything. I hope that with my food and talks about Brazil, I managed to show a little of my culture, as I am very proud to share it with everyone. Alex was always concerned about keeping me warm and making sure I didn't get cold. Thank you!

I don’t know how to express the incredible welcome I received in Taru from Caroline and Charles. They truly made me feel like part of the family from the very first moment. For personal reasons I couldn’t stay as long as I would have liked, but all the time I shared with them was a unique experience full of personal learning. I’m deeply grateful for those conversations with Charles, for the kindness of always accompanying us wherever we needed to go, no matter the time, and for the children of the family for being the sweetest and most welcoming I’ve ever met. Thank you as well to the teachers for letting me be part of the classroom. What I enjoyed most were the afternoons spent with the family, when they showed me their way of life and, truly, when I learned so much. You are an example of good people who, with love and care, support your children and an entire school that needs you. I hope I can come back and see how Jimmie and all the others have grown, and to see the school continue to grow little by little. I’m sending you a big hug and lots of love and good memories from Spain. For any volunteers who are thinking of going: the love they give is real, just like the love you will give to the children. The conditions are those of a rural environment in Kenya, and it’s important to go with an open mind and not compare it to where you come from. In my case, in January, the heat was sometimes hard to handle at night, but everything is manageable and the little ones will more than make up for it.

Thank you so much, Cleo and Zoe, for your kind words. Having you was truly a joy. You are both hardworking, capable, and thoughtful people, with a great sense of humor :) . You joined us during a very intense period, with truckloads of cacao arriving and what felt like endless compost-making from cacao husks — and you handled it all. We appreciated how independent you were in your work, time management, and your strong sense of responsibility. Your care for the wider community did not go unnoticed, our neighbor farms still talk about you. Your friendliness is remembered by our family and community. We are so grateful to have shared this journey with you. Wish you all the best and you’ll always be welcome back to your future holiday.

It has been a pleasure hosting Judyth. She works diligently in the garden weeding, pruning, and always leaves any area she works tidy. In the house as well she is tidy and organized, in the space she has stayed, as well as with some renovation projects. Judyth is easy going and fun, joining in with all the social and cultural activities, at the house as well as in the community. We will miss her, as well as her delicious and healthy dishes she often shared.

My friend Jessi and I spent about 3 and a half weeks with these two lovely people. We arrived during a time where paris and reims were both covered in snow and despite the frozen roads were picked up by Louis at the airport. The tasks were always well explained and communicated. If there was anything unclear or we wanted a new task, Louis was always there to help! He managed to create a space in which it was fine to make mistakes and learn, where he emphasized multiple times that it would be fine if it didn't work the first time or if we had to ask many questions, despite him working simultaneously from home as well. The boat is just such a cool place to be and although really cold at night because of winter, Ting and Louis were very hospitable and saw that we always had everything we need and enough heating for the night etc. Tings cooking is phenomenal and I loved every meal that she cooked and we got to share with them! Always a joy! All in all, I am so happy that I got to join and help them with this project and learn a few things along the way as well! Thank you for this wonderful experience, delicious food, nice talks and some of my new skills! We'll keep in contact <3

These past two and a half weeks have been awesome. I had the opportunity to teach the students english but also enjoy time with the people here From the beginning, the teachers were very kind and always willing to help whenever I needed support. Hector was there for me from day one and made me feel very welcome he even invited me to his uncle’s birthday party, which was a wonderful way to start my stay. During these weeks, I made many new friends and had the chance to meet different families. Teaching was completely new to me, but I enjoyed it, and I believe the students did as well. Each day I adapted and improvised my lessons, sometimes using language esl games and other times introducing my home country to make them practice listening. I often received small gifts from the students which made the experience even more memorable. I will definitely return in the future and of course stay in contact with the friends I made during these past weeks. :) !

Over the past few weeks, I've met so many beautiful souls, including Thomas and Diamanto and all their animals. I spent almost four weeks with them, and I'll never forget them. The stay was a unique experience for me, and I learned so much. The first few days were a bit overwhelming, but they patiently showed and explained everything to me, and I quickly settled into a routine. The work involved feeding the dogs, cleaning their enclosures, and changing their water. Afterward, we'd take several dogs for walks and, of course, have some cuddle sessions. In the afternoon, we'd take the goats out to graze in a meadow. The volunteers also live with several cats, which we cared for and who were always up for playing or cuddling. It was so nice having the cats around and I grew very fond of them. It feels strange not having them around anymore. The dogs are all wonderful creatures with very different personalities. Most of them really enjoyed the human attention and wanted to be cuddled as much as possible. It was also lovely to see how the more timid ones slowly thawed out and gradually came to enjoy my presence. :) I learned a lot about the behavior of dogs in a pack, as it differs significantly from that of an individual. You learn how the dogs communicate with each other and with people, how to interpret their behavior and how to act and react in specific situations. I've grown very fond of these loyal souls and will miss them dearly. I will never forget them, and they will always hold a special place in my heart. During my stay, I had the pleasure of meeting several volunteers, and I thoroughly enjoyed working with them and spending time together. Thank you for the wonderful time we shared. 🫶 Diamanto and Thomas are two incredibly wonderful and inspiring people, and what they do at the shelter is so important. It's truly remarkable how they manage everything, and I hope I was able to lend a helping hand over the past few weeks. They stand up against the opinions and expectations of those around them and give everything for the animals, which is truly remarkable, and they have my utmost respect for that. They are two incredibly hardworking people who love all their animals with all their hearts and deserve every kind of support. On top of everything else, Diamanto still found time to cook delicious meals for us, which allowed us to experience traditional dishes and ensure we were never hungry. I wish you all the best and hope we'll see each other again sometime and I can visit again. I highly recommend this experience! Thank you so much for everything! 🫶 Linn :)

I had the best time in Corozal with Wren was truly amazing. They were so so welcoming into their beautiful home and always made sure you felt comfortable and safe. They were always down for an adventure and made sure that I got the most out of my Belize experience. The work was fun and the kids are so cute!! I am very excited to see the school grow into its full potential and cheer them on from my travels moving forward. I hope to get the chance to come back to Belize and spend time again with them!

I had a lovely time volunteering for Rosie for a week this summer! Her and her son Louis were extremely friendly as well as generous. We shared long lunches together and many great conversations throughout my time there. She is very knowledgeable about Argentina and current events! I already miss the raspberries and homemade cherry juice she let us try! The work was 5 hours/day with a generous lunch provided. There was a lot of gardening and weeding, as well as collecting and moving piles of sticks, grass, logs, etc.. Mallín is a very rural place that can be hard to get around without a car, but there are nice things to do in nature nearby, including long hikes in Wharton, a local waterfall (25 minute walk away), and a small stream very near the house you can go wading in on hot days.

I stayed with them for about three weeks, and the time I spent there is truly precious to me! Emilse and Sebastian are incredibly open-minded, kind, and welcoming. They are curious about many things and always showed genuine interest in listening to me talk about my culture. My main responsibility was taking care of their two lovely children. They are both full of energy, very sweet, and a joy to be around!! I feel very grateful to have had the chance to spend such a wonderful time with this lovely family in Switzerland and I would absolutely love to visit them again someday✨✨

Our time with Sofi and her family was spectacular. It is definitely a memory that I will have for the rest of my life. She is extremely patient, loving and friendly and made our stay with her wonderful. We wanted to stay longer, especially as the surroundings are so lovely. We learnt so much about agriculture and growing vegetables which is knowledge that will serve us for the rest of our lives. She taught us in a way where we could understand everything very well and we could have hands on experience with many things. we appreciate her dedication to the project, her volunteers and family. we hope to return one day to visit them. Their family and beautiful town will always be in my heart. En pocas palabras, nos encantó conocer La Ventolera y su bella gente <3 Good luck with the future projects.
