Hi All! Jean here! I'm widely read, have many interests and skills and love to work and discover. I live healthily and place a premium on being natural in everything. My enquiring mind is always looking for a way to help others, learn new skills and to be better at living in harmony with our beautiful world. I'm friendly, helpful and easy to talk to. I can also spend time by myself. I am now looking at traveling again and being amazed at the bounty of life while giving back and being kind at the same time. I still have a long term goal of being self-sufficient, so kindness to all that surrounds me, good living, healthy eating and living sustainably is what I really hope to achieve as I re-embark on a journey of volunteering and discovery.

Dalene says “Hi everyone!” Meaningful Travel always calls me, teaching English abroad helps me to fund those travels and the learning and experience gained is deeply invaluable to an ongoing personal development for which I remain grateful. As much as I feel I’d like to settle in one place, home seems to elude me, yet my love for travel takes me to new places; so wherever I am, that is home. Connecting with people, learning about and immersing myself into their cultures and customs helps me to see others with new eyes and gain a deeper understanding of the differences and similarities in our respective lives. Being more tolerant, patient and kind is my reward and blessing. Having an open, friendly, easy going nature makes it easy for most people to talk to me; at the same time, having alone time, reading and walking in nature keeps me calm and focused.
Volunteering will enable me to share and teach, to learn from others; also build and gain meaningful new ‘workships’ as we give, receive and benefit cohesively from the shared experience.

As a couple, we always try to let our journeys be a learning and living experience. Our shared memories always help us to look forward to discoveries being made in the current moment. We’ve learnt to recognise how the fullness of life comes from living harmoniously and kindly with all that surrounds us and now that we are traveling together, we can again live the fullness of life!

Jean here again! I started my work career in accounting and business consulting, which also branched out to computer and software knowledge. I’ve learnt how to use the internet efficiently. Later I found that I rather wanted to develop my other interests in carpentry, crafting and gardening. In my 30's, due to health issues, I became interested in nutrition, holistic living and wholesome cooking. I found that camping while traveling gave me the time to explore crafting and living in nature with less waste and a smaller impact on the environment - all skills I've put to good use. I have been involved in many industries in one way or the other, so I keep adding knowledge and have always had the ability to help and teach (it always helps being a voracious reader!). I'm sure my ability to work hard and unsupervised (once I know what I am doing of course!) has also helped me to learn fast and be interested in helping all the time.

Dalene: Doing different kinds of work over the years has taught me so much and helped shape the way I approach every new venture. From my family’s small retail store, to accounting, to real estate sales and finally to traveling and teaching English abroad has cemented skills which are still effective to this day: good planning and organisation, accuracy, attention to detail, solid work ethic, excellent communication and listening, great customer service and interpersonal skills, flexible and adaptable, open minded and willingness to learn. These all help me to become a better teacher and traveler.

As a couple we’ve spent the last 18 months voluntarily helping family in their retail business and eventually taking over the full management of the business as a result of a family crisis. We also had to help move house twice, assist with legalities and teach life skills. We had to pause our own goals, traveling and learning for a while, but this pause also allowed us to again assess what is important in life, how we grow as a couple and how our work as a team benefits others. Now we can re-focus our own goals by traveling, meeting wonderful kind people along the way and gaining more insight.
