Kia Ora! Hello!

We are a queer, non-binary couple from Scotland currently travelling New Zealand in our little yellow van (Sunny). We both hold working holidays visas and are working our way from the top of the North Island down to the South.

Here's some information about each of us:

- Cat - (they/them)
I am 26 years old and originally from Edinburgh, Scotland. I have a degree in illustration, and a great interest in art and craft work, working with many different materials. At the moment, I have a particular focus on crochet. I am also very musical and enjoy playing the piano, guitar, and ukulele as well as singing.

My current passion lies in animal care/husbandry, and I have recently completed a Veterinary Care Assistant level 2 diploma. I have worked in a wildlife centre with birds, in a small animal vet practice, as well as in dog/cat kennels. I am interested in growing my knowledge and experience within any work involving animals.

I spent much of my childhood hillwalking in the (often wet and rainy) Scottish highlands, and my passion for the simplicities of outdoor adventure and living has continued to this day. Because of this, I would also enjoy experiences working directly with the land.

In summary, I’m a bit of a jack-of-all-trades; I pick up new skills very quickly and love to try new things, while also expanding on my (many) existing interests. I also thrive off of genuine human connection and love to meet new people.

Hello! I’m Genna and I’m 24 years old. Originally hailing from San Francisco, I’ve spent the last 5 years living and studying in Scotland. I completed an undergraduate degree in Social Anthropology at the University of Edinburgh in 2021 and have been waiting to travel ever since.

Aside from studying, most of my work experience has been in hospitality working both front of house and in the kitchen (see skills section for more). I have also volunteered with environmental non-profits with a particular focus on reducing waste, creating circular economies, and community-led projects. I am passionate about people and the planet - working towards sustainable futures that also improve our general wellbeing.

Like Cat, I enjoy creative expression through visual art, craft, and music. I am also an avid dancer, and have practiced various forms of solo and partnered dancing for most of my life. I enjoy staying active, whether through dance, yoga, climbing, hiking or general fitness.

I am a pretty social person and, like Cat, I thrive off of making authentic connections with others. While I already have many different interests, I love learning new things and being a part of other people’s passions.

Que habilidades tienes?

We have both worked in hospitality and so have all associated skills including general and deep cleaning, food handling, serving/interacting with customers, cash handling, and cooking and food prep. We work well with others in teams, but also excel at solo, self directed tasks.

Genna has trained as a barista and holds a strong passion and knowledge base for coffee. They can pour consistent latte art, dial in espresso machines, and train others in the art of coffee making.

Aside from hospitality, Cat has a particular skill with animals (handling, cleaning, feeding, etc.) which they have built through experience in vet practices and wildlife centres. Through their degree in illustration, Cat is also very adept at graphic design, photography, drawing, and using software including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

We are both very familiar with modern technology and can navigate basic website creation, social media platforms, and Microsoft Office/Google/Apple applications.
