Hi! I'm Thomas, 22 years old and from Austria.
I recently quit my job as a design engineer in special machine construction to explore the world, gain new experiences, and step out of my comfort zone.

I feel like now is the perfect time—I'm young, open-minded, and ready for adventure, before life brings more responsibilities that might make traveling harder. I'm very active and into fitness, especially bodyweight training and kickboxing. I've even competed in several championships in Austria and managed to win a few — it's a great sport with a strong, supportive community.

I'm helpful, hands-on, and happy to support wherever I can. I'm also a bit introverted and sometimes socially awkward, which is another reason I joined Workaway — I want to grow, connect with people, and improve my social skills while learning from different cultures and ways of life.

I'm looking forward to meaningful experiences, meeting new people, and living more in the moment — with less screen time and more real connections.

I worked as a design engineer in the field of special machine construction — which probably won’t help much when it comes to feeding chickens or painting a fence, but hey, if anyone needs a 3D model of their garden shed, I’m your guy!

That said, growing up in a rural area in Austria, I’ve helped out on various construction sites, especially during house builds. These hands-on experiences taught me practical skills and how to work as part of a team. I also spent some time helping on my uncle’s farm, so I’m familiar with agricultural work and not afraid to get my hands dirty.

Many of my cousins are much younger, and while I wouldn’t describe myself as particularly patient, I’m always up for fun, games, and being the “cool cousin” who joins in on everything — as long as no one expects me to be a kindergarten teacher 😅

Thanks to my regular training , I’m also well-suited for physical work and enjoy staying active.

I’m a quick learner — I tend to get curious about new tasks and enjoy figuring things out. For most practical tasks that don’t require years of training, I’m usually able to pick them up fast and do them reliably.

I love trying out different sports — even if I’m not great at all of them, I’m always curious and eager to improve. I’ve tried things like:
- Bouldering
- Rafting
- Skiing & Snowboarding
- Squash
...and whatever else comes my way!

I enjoy board games and group games as well — in my circle of friends, we even started a regular game night, which is always full of laughs (and mild competition 😉).

One of my biggest passions is riding motorcycles. I’ll actually be arriving at most destinations by motorbike — it’s my favorite way to travel and experience new places.

I’d say I’m a pretty adaptable person and usually get along well with most people. That said, I do have my boundaries and I’m not afraid to communicate them clearly and respectfully.
