Hi. My middle name is John and that is what I have always been called.
I am a fit and active 75 year old. I am widowed since July 2022 and my Golden Retriever dog died a year and a half ago so I now have loads of free time. Last winter I spent 5 weeks skiing, in Tignes and twice in Wengen. I am good at DIY. I designed and built my kitchen (plumbing, electrics, units, worktops), I designed and built 2 brick retaining walls in my garden and planted shrubs, trees, flowers around them. I laid my patio with concrete slabs. I also designed and built new gate posts at the entrance to the garden and erected a fence alongside. I was a civil engineer.

Although we owned a house in France for 6 years, I never managed to acquire a good accent. 18 months ago, I started learning Italian before going skiing to Cervinia and Val di Fassa and I was told I had a good accent even though I only knew some words and phrases!

I am good at DIY. And I enjoy seeing what I have made. I have built brick walls and gate posts in the garden, planted trees and bushes, painted the house, inside and out. Being a retired engineer, sometimes I can see solutions that other can’t. I can work with electrics and plumbing. I recently installed an outside tap and a weatherproof electric socket. With my son’s help, I erected a new garden shed and re-roofed the garage. I am an experienced sailor. My last yacht was a Hunter 36.

I help old people in my village with repairs and maintenance to their houses and gardens. But I am looking for more things to do, to pass the time now that my wife (since 1976) and dog have both died.
