I got to spend two weeks in June 2025 on the beautiful island Hasselö (literally hazelnut island) working on Hagaslätt. And better late than never I want to add my review, because I couldn’t forget this beautiful stay: One week I worked together with Marie, another workawayer. It was a true pleasure meeting her (not only because I could practice my French but because she was so kind). The second week I was alone in the stuga. Catharina and Hans were very welcoming, warm and kind hosts. It was my first stay with Workaway in general, and I think they set the bare very high. Communication was easy, the work load was just fine and if we wanted, we could adjust tasks and do something else first for example. I remember them always thanking us for the work after finishing a task and that made me feel appreciated. I knew that if there was something, work wise or personal, I could always talk to them. Which shows once again their big heart and how they care for the workawayers. Tasks I did was repainting the stuga, mowing the grass, weeding, repainting chairs, take out eggs and renew the chicken’s water We always had dinner together and regularly helped preparing it (voluntarily). Hans was open to share his wisdom about food with us which was very enriching. Breakfast and lunch was also provided but we prepared it ourselves or had leftovers from the day before. We could also make wishes for the food and the shopping list, which I thought was very generous. I especially valued the talks after or while eating and listening to stories from their lives. But Catharina and Hans don’t dwell on the past their active, ecological and open lifestyle shows how much in the present they are and that they think about the future. I think this is very inspiring. I am still grateful how they let us live with Some of my favourite memories are: repainting the red houses, since they are typically Swedish Hans’ delicious kardamom bulle, the nature in general taking refreshing dips in the sea seeing deers regularly on the meadow across the house as if that was normal Swedish chips I bought at the Island’s store that made me excited like a kid Getting a feel good fika (it was a Swedish pastry) from Catharina when I had a bad day once Getting a glimpse into Catharinas and Hans’ lives, as they have travelled and experienced a lot. I am also very grateful for sharing their stories with us! Going to the island’s pub! the little neighbouring island Sladö (you should go and see for yourself!) Eating fresh Swedish (apparently the best) strawberries with whipped cream learning about permaculture, the garden and its future plans, as Catharina and Hans were talking vividly with sparks in their eyes last but not least their absolutely adorable dog Leia!! For me the experience of living on an island that has no cars (only something similar to quads), that is only accessed by boats and that seems untouched and so full of nature is one of a kind. I learned quite a bit about permaculture and also practical things in the garden. I can only recommend coming to Hagaslätt, if you’re interested in a quiet life with a lot of nature, learning about (not only Swedish) culture, having inspiring talks with lovely people and living on a charming little island (and if you read until here, this is a sign). Thank you Catharina and Hans. Until we see each other again!

Emma was with us for 2 weeks in March-April 2026. She was a nice and helpful girl, and she was great to have visiting. She was easy to have in the house and grateful and easy to cook for. She cooked breakfast and evening meal herself, and otherwise ate everything she was served. She enjoyed taking walks in the area and exploring the mountains and fjords. We wish the visit had been in a warmer season so we could have shown her more of the nature here. We thank her so much for the help and visit, and wish her all the best on her journey ahead.

I had a great stay. I was longing to emerge myself in nature and it was the best place. I've spend especially a lot of time with flor, and overall they really made my stay being 2 very special weeks. Flor and martín made a lot of things possible for me, also they introduced me to the neighbourhood and showing me the nature and the people they call their home. What a special place, I'm looking forward to coming back someday. Lots of love<3

I could not have dreamt for a better place for my first workaway experience. Samu and Florrie welcomed me with kindness and openess, we shared lots of quality time, amazing food and great moments together. The dogs are so lovely, sometimes a bit crazy, but overall they have so much love to give. The farm is very peaceful (when the dogs are calm), beautiful with a pool and beautiful nature surroundings. Tlayacapan is also a very pretty town you can walk to. Work wise, be aware that you'll take care of many chickens but you can learn fast (was my first time handling Chickies). I also helped with Bnb tasks and cleaning the garden / area. I also spent many hours painting 2 murals, that was a great opportunity for me to experience this! Gracias por todo ❤️

Jessica is a truly kind, pure, and gentle person. She carried out all her tasks with great dedication, precision, and reliability. She was always on time, worked neatly, and maintained a cheerful attitude. In her collaboration with another volunteer - which was not always easy - Jessica remained very calm and relaxed. She handled the situation with respect and calmness, clearly demonstrating her strength of character. Jessica is always welcome to return in a calm and comfortable way, and I can wholeheartedly recommend her.

Estoy agradecida por esa experiencia de vivir en el campo de Mati, Karen, Eli y Abi por un mes. Aprendí un montón! Sobre la cosecha de papas, que era mi trabajo principal e igual favorito. También sobre gallinas, los seres que al principio me irritaban por su nerviosidad les cogí cariño y Mati me enseñó mucho sobre ellas. He aprendido sobre los desafíos y las penas de vivir en el campo, tanto como de las maravillas que pasan como el nacimiento de un pollito, un pancito de Karen recién horneado sobre la estufa de leña o el olor a mermelada de mora. Eli era mi fiel compañera, compartimos dibujando, haciendo circo y descubriendo la zona juntas. Gracias por dejar crecer y cultivar mi cable tierra. Siempre les recordaré!

It was a great Time with Sophie and some other people at this beautiful Place! We were working different things like construction, wood and claywork and it was quite flexible on how and when you worked. Sophie was really caring for everyone having a good time and feeling comfortable. Hence everyone was motivated and feeling good. We had cozy evenings cooking and chilling together, felt kind of familial. It is a really beautiful place with nice nature around. Thanks and see you soon Sophie:)

I had the pleasure of spending six weeks with Funda—although I had originally planned for just four weeks, I ended up staying longer because it was such an incredible experience. Funda is one of the kindest, funniest, and most relaxed people I’ve ever met, with a heart that seems to have endless love for animals. Her dedication and care for her pets are truly inspiring; if we all showed even a fraction of her compassion, no animal would go without help. Funda has five cats and one dog, Mira. Mira is the calmest and most gentle dog I’ve ever met—beautiful inside and out. At first, the cats were a bit shy and kept their distance, but over time they warmed up, and I was able to earn their trust and enjoy petting them. Spending time with Funda and her animals was a joyful and heartwarming experience. I can wholeheartedly recommend Funda to anyone who loves animals, whether you’re a cat person, a dog person, or both. P.S. I’m already looking forward to the day our paths cross again, and we can enjoy another beautiful hike together! Kind regards, Jan

I stayed with Léna and Bishow for three weeks, and my experience was incredibly positive! They were so much more than just hosts... they were true friends. I especially loved ending the day in their company while they played the guitar; it created such a warm and welcoming atmosphere! During my stay at the hostel, I really enjoyed spending time with the other volunteers, the staff, and the guests. I never once felt alone ❤️ The work on the farm could sometimes be hard, but Léna and Bishow always made sure I was doing well and encouraged plenty of breaks. At the end of the day, we would often relax together over a cup of tea. Thank you for everything, a big hug! ❤️

I felt to be part of this beautiful unique family for the weeks I was there. Annabel is a very creative person and there's always something different to do. From gardening to weaving or taking care of the beautiful animals. It's not a holiday, it's a real experience of sharing life with good spirits. The art is everywhere, the silence and the positive chaos. The airstream accommodation is just terrific. Thanks again and see you soon.

We had a wonderful time at Andrew and Sibbohan's place. The warm welcome and beautiful accommodation is enough to make anyone feel at home and comfortable. We enjoyed hanging out with Andrew's family, including the two cats snd had a lot of fun. Anyone who finds themselves being able to help out and learn about gardening with these hospitable hosts, is very lucky.

Finnbar fue un excelente huesped, se integró rapida y satisfactoriamente a las dinamicas de nuestra fundación, nos compartió mucho de su cultura en especial a los niños que tuvieron la oportunidad de conocerlo, su apoyo a la escuela musical fue muy valioso; aunque corta, su estancia con nosotros logro dejar experiencias que siempre recordaremos.

I spent one week at Os’s place at Playa Mermejita and had a really lovely, relaxing time. For the first three days, I was there by myself, basically house sitting. The work was very light and the tasks were not difficult at all. In return, I got to stay in a beautiful cabana, which I really enjoyed. Os is a very kind and easygoing host and it was a very nice and laid back experience staying at his place. The only thing to keep in mind is the weather since it gets really hot, so be prepared, and definitely bring mosquito spray! Muchas gracias por todo! :)

What a delight to have a person like Marine at our place. Truly friendly and kind, for everyone and every animal. I enjoyed her energy and skills, she sees the work and she can do it all. My god what a talented woman! come back Marine!!!!

I stayed for one week and even in this short time I feel like this was very important to see for my life. I got to know Adam's family which is very kind and welcomming although the language barrier was a bit hard as I only speak English. I worked for 4 days in the school and connected quite good in this short time. We had some gardening projects and I teached some English in Sidi's class. Sidi speaks very good English and was very helpful to overcome the language barrier for me. thank you for this experience and the short but great time! I only had to get used to the communication and time management there as a European...

I had a great workaway experience at katherines and sebastians house! the family is very open and it was easy to connect with their three gorgeous kids🥹I can really recommend that workaway host!!!

This place provides normalcy, dignity and kindness for people who's lives are in flux. Living and working with a team of caring volunteers was core in making my experience exceptional. I appreciated the opportunity to contribute. Thanks to all who organize this operation!
