Hello, I'm Esther. I run a primary school in Masindi (North West of Kampala).
Having become a widow at an early age and with my children so young, I realized the problems that so many single mothers go through to educate their children and support their families. As a professional teacher, I was inspired by these challenges to start a primary school to support orphans and vulnerable children from rural Uganda to attain a quality and affordable education no matter their economic background.
The school is currently home to 260 children ages 3 to 13 and the number is growing very fast. We currently need volunteers to support the teaching staff and pass on valuable life skills to the learners through career-building sessions. The volunteers will also act as role models and help our learners stay in school longer by changing the community attitude towards education.
Volunteering with us is a unique opportunity to combine adventure and volunteering for a worthwhile cause. It is a rare opportunity to gain insight into the Ugandan lifestyle and experience a completely different culture and way of life. We are looking for volunteers with a wide variety of skills: from assistance at the school, including teaching and gardening, to more technical support, such as fundraising and project management.
We look forward to working with you!

Uganda is the pearl of Africa with a rich and interesting culture. Volunteers will experience first-hand the Ugandan way of life and get the chance to really make a difference. They can also learn the Luganda and other local languages spoken here. You will also learn to peel matooke (bananas), a local delicacy here and learn to cook a wide range of Ugandan dishes.
The school is located in Masindi, home to Murchison falls, National Park. Tourists are charged to get access, but the experience is worth it. You get to see the big five in their natural habitat and experience the beautiful sunrise at the falls.
We mostly work with children ages 3 to 13 years (primary school). We are looking for volunteers to help with things like:
Teaching
Playing with the children
Gardening
Fundraising
Project Management/ Administration
Language exchange
We work with all kinds of people with different levels of experience. Professionals are welcome, but you don’t have to be a professional to help us make a difference.
You can create your own classroom with different themes or topics, for example, mentorship and career guidance, cooking, geography, sports, creative arts, simple and fun gardening and the like.
You can come here like a teacher or simply help with with the administrative work and other school projects.
If you would like to bring us some gifts, here is our wish list (the materials could be new or used):
- English books, learning materials
- Paper
- Pens, pencils, rubbers, world-map, school bags etc
- Electronics (keyboard, old laptops etc
