We are a married couple running an off-grid homestead called Humble Habitat. This will be our third year here; we are still establishing many things and at the same time we have accomplished a great deal already. We have multiple permaculture inspired gardens, both annual and perennial. Eliza does most of the gardening, cooking and house keeping. David is continuously working on different building projects, and we even have our own portable sawmill. Together we raise chickens for eggs, meat, and fertilizer. We also have a very sweet and calm dog, and a little cat.
Most of our time is spent outside on our 12 hectares of mixed forest and fields/gardens. Our main goals here are to help heal this land (much of the forest was cut down by the previous owner), and to create abundant habitats and biodiversity. We also strive to be as self sufficient as we find possible, work with nature instead of against it. We have been hosting volunteers for 8 years together, and we especially love hosting people who are genuinely interested in this type of lifestyle.
If you think it sounds fun to cook in an outdoor kitchen, pull weeds from the garden, eat real food, chop wood and make fires, observe and interact with nature, create trails and nice places for humans, be involved in building projects, learn to make wood chips and use a sawmill, and so much more, than this place is waiting for you!Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

Workawayers can gain experience in off-grid living, gardening and growing food, cooking whole meals, building projects of many types, and forestry work, how to chop firewood, and even some animal husbandry if interested. They will also get to share this beautiful piece of nature that we are lucky enough to live on.

There are lots of walking trails nearby, as well as lakes aplenty, historical sites and nature reserves. We are walking distance from the bus and close to the train, so it's easy to get to the big cities if you want to explore.
