In Nahuatl, the project’s name translates as ‘Sleeping in a tree’. This is not a literal description but an analogy: sleeping as the rhythm of any activity and the tree as the natural environment. Together, they evoke a harmony where logic and nature mutually sustain each other. That is the invitation here: to live and act in a respectful way with the environment.

Before we go into the details, please read carefully. In your first email, mention what stood out to you about the profile and include the ‘hidden word’ so we know you fully understand the project and the conditions. Thanks.

The project’s goal is to get close to nature again, “back to the roots”, and make and practise sustainable actions for the community’s wellbeing, hoping the project’s model could be replicated by some others and learning from the projects that already work.

The activities are based on the principles of permaculture, green technologies and sustainable processes. taken the best in the local rural life with global thinking and connections that permit learning, teaching, applying and replaying cultural, social, economical, political and academical features to satisfy the human and social needs but always looking for the least possible impact on the planet.

The project was born in Guadalajara by me, Adrian, an early-retired industrial designer who wants to change the way of living and consuming. For that, I decided to leave the city to create this place in Atengo, a county part of the Sierra de Amula region that has lots of attractions for sightseeing, like cascades (one of them more than 90 metres tall), fresh air/smell in a whole pine forest, natural swimming pools, rivers, climbing rocks, and trekking in nearby mountains with great views, and also the friendly people that live here.

    Welcome!

Being here, you’ll find a welcoming atmosphere for Spanish immersion, with opportunities to experience traditional Jaliscan culture through activities such as milking cows, making cheese, horseback riding, or practising charro sports.
The Sierra de Amula region also offers outdoor adventures like trekking, climbing, camping, swimming, and appreciating or conserving its rich flora and fauna. You can explore archaeological sites, cultural landmarks, and natural trails, or simply relax by waterfalls and gaze at star-filled skies—sometimes even catching a meteor shower.
Additional activities can be tailored to your interests. Let’s make your stay both meaningful and unforgettable.

This is a new eco project seeking creative, energetic volunteers who are open to sharing ideas on how to build a sustainable, welcoming place for everyone to enjoy.

Some of the current tasks include:
    - Building and repairing the house and garden
    - Planting seeds and harvesting fruits and vegetables
    - Creating alternative structures such as rest areas or grills
    - Designing stone paths—if you have experience, your help is especially welcome
    - Suggesting other activities that match your skills and interests

Outreach to the local community is also an important goal, with activities that connect us directly with the town.
This is a great opportunity to learn, teach, and share eco-friendly ways of living.

Volunteers are asked to work 4 days a week (up to 6 hours per day), with 3 full free days, and meals are provided three times a day.

    Alojamiento

At the moment, visitors can stay in a room with two double beds and blankets. There are also spaces available for camping if you prefer. The house does not have facilities such as a kitchen, electricity, running water, or hot water, but it is a safe and quiet place to sleep or camp. (In town, you can access electricity and Wi-Fi.)
Meals at home are flexible, though it is common to enjoy cereals and grains combined with fruits and vegetables.

    - Could help if you add an email account to the first mail you send; it helps to add some other files.
    - The hidden word or the proof is "cuacochi", so don't miss writing it in your mail.
    - It would be a good idea if we shared seeds or music; could you bring some?
    - Here is not a work-only space; it's appreciated if we share some time talking or enjoying.
    - Tried to be flexible, but this is a SMOKE-UNFRIENDLY place; please don't bring tobacco, cigarettes, or drugs, thanks.
-If you request a stay, please confirm it. If not, kindly send an email to let me know. Since space is limited and I reserved the room for you, if you are not coming, please tell me so I can offer it to others.
    - Trips and other activities are not included. If you want to visit some places and they represent a cost, we can talk about it.
    - Consider: the project is settled in a wild area that includes wild fauna; be aware if you're afraid or sensitive.
