Descripción
Sabine, 42, physiotherapist, not working at the moment, since babies and horses need a lot of attention , loves cooking, gardening, horses-riding.
Ulrich, 50 sculpturer (wood, clay and sand), right now hardly sculpting due lack of time, loves music and art.
Theodor, 12 year old boy, loves to tell stories and to drive around the yard with his quad. He also loves his little brother
Friedrich, 4 years old, and his sister Marlene, 2 years old .
And all of us love Erika, born march 2019 in Tobringen, round and cute.

Two and a half years ago we moved to a little village in the rural area "Wendland" in the triangle between Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover.
Friends called us brave, coming from the city (Berlin) where we lived more than 15 years, taking over this farm with a baby coming soon, buying two horses right away ...
For us sometimes it´s a dream coming true, but sometimes we only see all the work waiting to be done.
Therefore any help is welcome:
The horses need food and exercise, The bathroom in the upper floor still is not in function. Someone who knows about carpeting could be very helpful and someone caring for the kids would make it possible for us to do things that are in the waiting line.
We have a lot of plans what to do with all the space we have ...
Still parts are finished, kitchen and livingroom are already cosy. You could sleep in nice guest rooms with your own bathroom. Guests could also use our bycicles and maybe sometimes our car to be a bit independent.

So, some time has already passed since I left Tobringen, the little village where this amazing family lives. I wanted to put everything in perspective before leaving my feedback, but I guess its past time I did it.

So, I stayed with this amazing family for 6 weeks, more or less, from the beginning of November till mid-December, it was my second… read more experience as a workawayer but my first one with a family, and it was much better than I expected (I was until then not used to being around children). From the first moment, I felt welcomed in the family, not only by Sabine and Ulrich but also by all the children (Theo, Friedrich, Malena, and baby Erika) who quickly got used to me being around the house. Also, I got to live with another workawayer from Argentina, Agustin, who came to the house some weeks after I'd arrived.

It is a really special family, and I had a great time with them. They live in this huge house with hens and horses and three beautiful cats and each member of the family has something special to them. Sabine is a patient and kind woman, she was always really nice to me. Since I wanted to improve my German, from the first moment both her and Ulrich spoke to me only in german, and she would listen to any question I had and she would explain to me everything in such a way that I could understand. I wished I had talked more with her, but my language skills impeded that. Then there is Ulrich, a hard-working man with lots of interesting ideas. Even though I don't share his point of view on many issues --redacted text-- I enjoyed listening to his arguments and tried to reply to them as well as I could. Also we could play board games together, sometimes with the children, other times only us, and it was amazing.

As for the children, Theo was quite fun to talk to and he liked practicing English with Agustin and me; Friedrich was hilarious sometimes, but he could also be a little bit exhausting; as for Malena, she is the sweetest girl I've met, completely capable of playing by herself, but also quite enjoyable when we played together; and little Erika is a happy baby, who almost never cries and she leanrt to crawl when I was in the house, so it was difficult not falling for her...

Then there was the 'work', which wasn't really work.. Since I was not required to do much, I occupied myself with keeping the kitchen and the living room clean and tidy and apart from that mostly I had to help around with the children, go for a walk with them or play with them. Only sometimes we (Agustin and I) had to do some specific tasks as cutting branches, moving wood or painting a bookcase. This is good in part because you don't have a schedule to follow, but it can't be a little unpleasant if you are a more structured kind of person.

As for the house, it is huge. Since they bought it some years ago they have been renovating it, and they still are, and it's every day more beautiful. Since they have three bedrooms for guests, they usually have guests there, but since in winter there are not many people around, I got my own enormous room with an equally gigantic private bathroom. There is internet in the house, but more often than not it is off, since they like to minimize their exposure to it, but if you need it for anything you just have to ask to turn it on, and they have no problem with it. Also, if you want to go shopping, you can either go with the family or you can use a bike, but be aware that the nearest shop is 10 km away, and the nearest city with more options is 13 km away! But anyway, the roads are quite nice :)

All in all, it was a great experience and I would definitly do it again if I had to choose. I really hope I can come by some other time to visit.

We were very happy, having Dorothee among us. The children loved her right away and the whole family was a little bit sad when she left. Dorothee has extensive riding skills. She went on a ride with Robin ceveral times and almost completely took over the care for our horses.
