  A Heart-Centered Community & Sacred Plant Medicine Journey of Awakening in the Sacred Valley
  
  We are very grateful to have the opportunity to talk about our project. We thank the Workaway team and send warm greetings to everyone from the Sacred Valley here in Maska, Cusco, Peru.
  On behalf of our community, located near Pisac, it is an honour for me, Leo, to tell you more about our vision and mission as a new project.
  We have grown very quickly and have now been a community for a year. Our values are harmony, cultural exchange, and the recovery of our ancestral traditions, as well as promoting the Quechua language and its importance to the world. Our mission is for every traveller who comes to our community to feel integrated and supported in the Spanish and Quechua languages and in learning about Quechua traditions.
  We are located right next to the Pisac Archaeological Park, in a privileged location. We chose this place to protect it because, as locals, we recognise that it is a sacred place.
  In my story, I came to the Sacred Valley seeking a deeper connection with my ancestors, to learn more about medicinal plants and traditional Andean healing, searching for a teacher who could teach me. Since I arrived here, I felt that I had found the place where I always wanted to be. Eventually, I participated in other projects in the area, and together with several people who shared our philosophy, we started in Maska. At the moment, we protect two houses in the vicinity of Pisac, in Maska and Cuyo Chico, and we also protect and care for a family in Viacha, a community near the Totoracocha and Challhuacocha lagoons. Traditionally, we always visit this family every week. We have been receiving many travellers who have helped the project grow and spread the word to more travellers. The Quechua family teaches us about the cultural traditions we have always had. They also have a farm with alpacas and llamas. They also teach us about natural plants and how to heal with them. We have been interacting with them and supporting them in many ways, such as by purchasing their handicrafts.
  By telling you this, we want to be transparent and real, and we believe that we need help to increase the value of the Quechua language and ancestral traditions.
  Sebastian, an Andean priest with extensive knowledge of natural plants, healing, and holistic medicine, is also participating in our project. We are very happy to see that travellers leave with a unique learning experience and want to return and recommend us.
  
  We currently employ four paid local staff in key operational roles: site management, kitchen and general cleaning, and translation between Quechua, Spanish, and English. The management role focuses on coordinating daily operations and delegating tasks based on volunteers’ skills.
  
  
  Estamos muy agradecidos de poder tener la posibilidad de contar sobre nuestro proyecto, agradecemos al equipo de workaway, y damos un calido saludo a todos desde el Valle Sagrado aca en Maska, Cusco desde Peru.
  Desde la representacion de nuestra comunidad ubicada cerca de Pisac, es un honor para mi, Leo, contar mas sobre nuestra vision y mision como proyecto nuevo.
  Hemos crecido muy rapido, ya tenemos un año como comunidad, nuestros valores son la armonia el intercambio cultural y la recuperacion de nuestras tradiciones ancestrales, dar en valor el idioma quechua y su importancia hacia el mundo. Nuestra mision es que cada persona viajero que llegue a nuestra comunidad se sienta integrado y apoyado en el idioma español y quechua y en el aprendizaje de tradiciones de los Quechua.
  Estamos ubicados exactamente alado del Parque Arqueologico de Pisac, en una ubicacion privilegiada. Escogimos este lugar para protegerlo ya que como locales reconocemos que es un lugar sagrado.
  En mi historia vine al valle sagrado buscando mas conexion con lo ancestral, para aprender mas sobre las plantas medicinales y el curanderismo tradicional andino, buscando por un maestro que me pudiera enseñar . Desde que llegue aca senti que me encontre en donde siempre queria estar. Eventualmente participe de otros proyectos alrededor y junto con varias personas con las que compartimos filosofias empezamos en Maska. En este momento protegemos dos casas en los alrededores de Pisac, en Maska y Cuyo Chico y tambien protegemos y cuidamos una familia en Viacha, una comunidad cercana a las lagunas Totoracocha y Challhuacocha. Tradicionalmente siempre vamos a visitar a esta familia todas las semanas, hemos estado recibiendo muchos viajeros que han hecho crecer el proyecto y darlo a conocer a mas viajeros. La familia quechua nos enseña sobre las tradiciones culturales que hemos tenido desde siempre. Tienen tambien una granja con alpacas y llamas. Tambien nos enseñan sobre las plantas naturales y como curar con ellas. Hemos estado teniendo intercambio con ellos y spoyandolos de muchas maneras, como comprando sus artesanias.
  Contandoles esto queremos ser transparentes y reales y creemos que necesitamos ayuda para hacer crecer el valor del idioma Quechua y las tradiciones ancestrales.
  En nuestro proyecto tambien esta la participacion de Sebastian, quien es un sacerdote andino y tiene mucho conocimiento en las plantas naturales y sanacion, medicina holistica. Estamos muy felices de ver que los viajeros se van con un aprendisaje unico y quieren regresar y nos recomiendan.
  
  Actualmente empleamos a cuatro personas locales con salario. Estos puestos incluyen gestión del espacio (coordinación diaria, identificación de las habilidades de los voluntarios y asignación de tareas), limpieza general y de cocina, y traducción entre quechua, español e inglés. Son roles clave para el funcionamiento diario del centro.

  The cultural exchange is real. Being in Peru, we feel a responsibility to preserve the traditions of our parents and grandparents who speak Quechua. We want to share an authentic and transparent experience, teaching Spanish and Quechua, and sharing information about the native plants that grow here and how Andean people have used them for healing.
  
  El intercambio cultural es real, estando en Peru, sentimos que tenemos una responsabilidad por rescatar las tradiciones de nuestros padres, abuelos que hablan quechua. Sentimos que queremos mostrar una experiencia autentica y transparente. Enseñar espanol y quechua y ensenar sobre las plantas naturales que crecen aca y como los andinos han estado usandalas para curar.

  We need help improving our space, protecting it, and maintaining it.
  We live in the mountains and there are many forests, and the traditional way of building here is with adobe.
  We have a bio-construction project using materials that we find around us.
  In our holistic community, we also accept practitioners of yoga or other holistic disciplines.
  In the kitchen, we always have volunteers who cook for the community house every day.
  
  Necesitamos ayuda en mejorar nuestro espacio, protegerlo y mantenerlo.
  Vivimos en la montaña y hay muchos bosques y la manera de construir aca es tradicional con adobe.
  Contamos con proyecto de bioconstruccion usando materiales que encontramos alrededor.
  Tambien en nuestra comunidad holistica aceptamos practicantes de yoga o alguna disciplina holistica.
  En cocina siempre contamos con voluntarios que cocinan para la casa comunidad todos los dias.

  Junto con Sebastian y el equipo, hemos armado un programa para enseñar español y asi tambien hemos dado facilidad y tambien espacio para que Martina de la familia quechua de la laguna en la comunidad de Viacha pueda enseñar Quechua, saludos y palabras basicas es lo esencial. Sentimos que la inmersion es el camino real para enseñar.

  Alojamiento

  Our accommodation is in cabins in crew dormitories. We are equipped with Wi-Fi, hot showers, a campfire area, two kitchens, and instruments.
  
  As part of the volunteer exchange, we provide three meals per day in exchange for 24–25 hours of contribution per week. Meals are organic, healthy, and mostly sourced from our garden, served buffet-style.
  Volunteers cook for themselves on a rotating basis. Those with cooking skills join the kitchen team and help coordinate meals. We share daily community meals: breakfast at 9:00 a.m., lunch at 1:00 p.m., and dinner at 7:00 p.m.
  Lunch is prepared on a rotating schedule, either by volunteers or by a local family that cooks for the community. Each day, different volunteers are responsible for cooking, and all meals are shared communally.

  We are in a prime location, near Pisac in the Cuyo Chico and Maska communities. In our free time, we often go to Pisac and organize many activities from our center.
  
  Estamos en una ubicacion priviligeada, cerca de Pisac en la comunidad de Cuyo Chico y Maska. Siempre en los tiempos libres vamos a Pisac y organizamos muchas actividades desde nuestro centro.
