Our project is a vegan permaculture and animal rescue non-profit, established in 2017. We have rescued dozens of pasture-animals from the 2018 lava flow and Big Island Dairy closure. We also have a couple of gardens and fruit trees all over the property, which are beginning to produce. Our mission is to teach food independence and treat animals with love and respect, without the intention of commercial exploitation.

We are looking for volunteers to help tend to the sanctuary animals (donkeys, cows, goats, sheep, pigs, birds, dogs, and cats), maintain/expand our food gardens, as well as do other tasks, such as: cleaning, organizing, yardwork, etc. We are always in need of volunteers with construction, fencing, and mechanical skills for building, repair, and maintenance projects.

We are urgently looking for a new operations manager, as our last one left at a short notice due to a family emergency.
The operation's manager position is on a volunteer based. We ask for a a minimum of 6 months commitment, with a strong preference towards 1 year.
The role of a sanctuary operations manager (OM) is to oversee the daily plant and animal care and ensure the wellbeing of the volunteers. Primarily, the OM supervises all other workers, such as work-traders, contractors, and volunteers. We require about 15-20 hours a week.
Some of the OM's primary duties include:
+ Keeping project supplies, food, and feed well-stocked
+ Ensuring the safety and well-being of all workers, animals, and plants at the sanctuary
+ Meeting regularly with workers to delegate tasks and responsibilities
+ Communicating any operational needs with the sanctuary management
The operations manager will get their own, fully furnished and well-stocked accommodation, with a private bathroom and kitchen. You'll also get access to the sanctuary vehicles. This position will be perfect for a digital nomad but we can also try to link you up with local job resources, and/or help you get Medicade health insurance and SNAP (food stamps).
Please note this is NOT a paid position. We are a non-profit on a shoestring budget. What we can offer is a nice place to live, a sense of purpose, and the opportunity to become a part of the change you want to see in the world.
