We live in a precious little creative fishing village. There’s whale watching, and a great vibe with lots of musicians and artists and surfers. We live a mile from the beach.

    We are:
--my 89-year-old English-speaking grandma. She is vivacious: she has a ton of stories from growing up in Chicago in the 30s and 40s, loves to entertain, loves to dress up fancy, and loves to drink margaritas at local restaurants. Needs help to organize her huge wardrobe. She also has lots of ideas for the garden, but can't physically do much.

--my Spanish-speaking husband, was born and raised here. He runs a 1-acre organic vegetable farm all by himself. It is 6 km away, so we drive there. He also has cattle and a young horse he's training.

--me: a 39-year-old bilingual American. I spend most of my time keeping up with housework and feeding the kids. I also run our vacation rentals.

--The kids: 4 boys, ages 11 to 8. They love playing video games like Minecraft, Game Beasts and Zooba. The oldest wants to hike the Sierra de la Laguna (which is a very difficult 7 hour trail), so we are working on our hiking endurance and skills with some smaller local hikes. They all love nature and are great at spotting plants and animals. Two of them also enjoy cooking. They like chopping watermelon and pineapples, opening coconuts, making cookies and they love making chicken nuggets. The 8-year-old is autistic, non-speaking, and loves juggling rocks. I need help supervising him because sometimes he'll climb the patio walls and be in the street.

    Farm Work:
Carlos could always use a hand on the farm! He grows organic veggies and raises cattle. If you know how to ride, we are teaching a young mare to ride. The horses need to be fed and watered as well.

    Sightseeing and social work:
My grandma needs help going out and meeting people! If you could drive and take her shopping or sightseeing that would be a plus. You could see the town together: go to the shops, run errands, try restaurants. She could also use help preparing meals at home, eating with her, and cleaning up after.

She loves gardening but physically isn't able to, so if you like to garden that would be a big plus! You could help her implement her ideas.

She's also in the middle of a big closet organization project and needs help putting boxes away. Handyman skills would be a huge plus, but not a requirement!

    Childcare:
Four kids with big energy. My 8-year-old is autistic and needs a lot of supervision. The 10 and 11-year-olds could use help with school work.

    Alojamiento

Studio apartment connected to my grandmas house. The studio has a separate entrance, a mini kitchenette with a fridge and some cooking supplies and a sink. It also has a bathroom and shower. My grandma needs access to the bathroom during the day, but there is a lockable door between your room and the bathroom.

We rent this studio out, so when you apply, I appreciate exact dates. I'd like to be able to rent it out when workawayers aren't here, so I need to be able to open and close the calendar. Check with us regarding current availability

Walk to the beach to see whales in the winter, and check out local eateries and bars on foot in the neighborhood as well. There's a lot of great live music around the corner.

I love staying home, but you’re welcome to explore the town and beaches! You can get to town with an affordable taxi. You can use my car if you're taking my grandma out and have a valid driver's license.

If you are travelling with your pet, it is probably well-trained. Dogs can't go to the farm, unless they stay leashed while you work.
