An all natural, tropical farm, with exotic fruit, veg, & herb all growing organically under the Jamaican sun. The hilltop location, only 5 minutes from Negril beach, town, and westend, is above the trees themselves, and blessed with plentiful rain and cool mountain breezes.

We have a tropical farm for visitors to come & explore their Jamaican Roots. We're culturally aware & sensitive about the needs of the Diaspora, and would especially welcome anyone with Jamaican and/or African heritage who would like to connect more deeply to their roots, with nature, and with the land. While we are not exactly Rastafarian (one of us is Baldheaded and the other is from Babylon), we strive to embody the Rasta spirit -- especially in the reverence for plants, nature, harmony, and peace.

While we have the occasional drink (and usually work better with a spliff), this is not a party location. You will LOVE the peace and quiet in the hills at night, with only distant sounds of music, motorbikes, and social dogs in the air, and a rooster and a couple of goats waking you up in the morning. We welcome anyone with an honest interest in learning about tropical farming, the local culture, and the current & historical political context of Jamaica and Jamaicans.

We are continually clearing, building, planting, watering, weeding, feeding, fencing, mixing concrete, hauling stone, carrying logs, making furniture, caring for domestic animals, burning wood for charcoal, and other assorted farm activities. We are also carefully growing herbs & tender plants that require a lot of attention. During times we are not doing farm chores, we are welcoming paying guests for tropical farm tours.

Because our farm is a working farm that provides tours for clients, workawayers will naturally be a part of the activity that happens with that. While our Jamaican farmer is the host -- he leads the tours, teaches about farming in Jamaica, and cooks farm-to-table meals to 5-star acclaim -- this does offer workawayers a unique cultural exchange. We discuss & demonstrate farming, plants, growing, food preparation, climate, and related techniques with our clients from all over the world on a regular basis. Workawayers are invited to talk casually and interact with customers when it's appropriate to do so and according to their own comfort level, but are not expected to work in the tourist business part of the farm.

Regular farm work adjusts with the schedule of the farm tours and according to need, and will be different on a daily basis. After regular daily tasks like watering, feeding, and weeding, we might be working with a welder on the gate, running water pipes to a new location, or harvesting yams, and when it rains we may be sanding new benches and chairs, painting, or preparing produce. We would invite workawayers to assist in all that we do, according to their preferences & abilities, of course.

    Alojamiento

You will have 1 small private bedroom in the main farmhouse, which is like a treehouse perched on top of a hill. The bathroom is shared and fully functional, with running water, toilet, sink, shower. We also have an outdoor shower.

We provide one cooked meal in the evening that is typically prepared together, and ingredients for other meals that you are able to prepare at any other time. Typical Jamaican ingredients include all of the produce on the farm - fruits of course! plus veggies like callaloo, okra, plantain, yam, & pumpkin - and kitchen staples like rice, flour, oats, spices, and oils to make the boiled dumplings, rice-n-peas, and other side dishes. We eat mostly vegan except for the occasional Jamaican patty for lunch, and the evening meal often includes fish (sometimes tinned), chicken, or beef. We make our own coconut milk, and we have coffee available. During the farm work we drink a lot of water, juice, and sugar cane.

You are free to use the kitchen anytime.

  • Algo más...

    Algo más...

The farm is in the hills above Negril & only a hilly walk or short motorbike-taxi ride away from Negril town, westend, and beach. In addition to all that Negril has to offer, the hills have neighborly local bars around and lots of nature. There is a bee farm next door. Days are usually busy and evenings are relaxed. We have hammocks and the most amazing verandah overlooking the tropical farm.... it makes you want to stay - spellbound, chill, relaxed, and happy.

Excellent wifi. As long as farm work is done and being online doesn't mean being loud, work online as much you want. Note that we are not cigarette smokers, and we are not fans of copious amounts of tobacco smoke.
