Hello world- welcome to the sunny islands! I have have recently taken over an 19-acre farm on the outermost island of the Hvaler-øyene(Whale Islands), south-east Norway. We are in love with the place and the beautiful surroundings.

We cannot offer wages for the work. We work together 5 houers 5 days a week and sheare 3 meals a day.

All work we do at the farm is non profit work to make the place and to prep the courses, events and the festivals, all under the organization.

Throughout the season 2024, we need your help to organize these various events, so there is a lot to learn here: We mainly need help with architecure drwaings, carpentry, bricking the bakery oven, various gardening projects such as preparing soil, grafting, nursery, growing food for festivals, cutting timber, making firewood, building an cleaning staion for veggies, making posters for courses and festivals, web design, photography, art form and color.

This is an association that works to continue Nordic cultural heritage. At the farm, you will take part in building up the farm as a place for knowledge sharing, festivals, courses and seminars. With a focus on sustainability, art and culture, music, food & drink, wild plants, transmission of Nordic folk traditions, local natural products, outdoor life and the presence of nature. We want to increase the population's knowledge of nature, homesteading, history and folk tradition, and inspire the use of natural, green and sustainable low-threshold tools in everyday life. There is a desire to highlight the green entrepreneurship that exists in the Nordic region. As well as creating a bridge between manufacturers, suppliers and the public.

I value good craftsmanship, interest and willingness to learn something new.

The farm consists of ca 13 acres of forest and 6 acres of cultivated land. Back in the 1930s, the farm was a natural hub and square for the residents of the island. We want to recreate the square, the farm and the nature with regenartative methods(agroecology) (high lowtec/ market garden/ sensory garden) Regenerative agriculture is about giving more life to the soil, on the farm, in the village, limiting global warming and repairing the ecosystems. Agroecological agriculture is an approach to agriculture based on imitating nature's own ecosystems to the greatest extent possible.

We want to give our guests great- food and nature experiences. How can we feed ourselves from the earth and at the same time stimulate more life...

    Aboute me
I am working as an arborist and gardener with many years of experience in logging, forest- and cultural landscape management and tree care. In recent years, he has developed courses within the professional fields as an arborist where I teaches people to care for trees and cultural landscapes on nature's premises. I have worked as a teacher at the waldorf School for 7 years where he developed program subjects for school gardening/food science. Recently graduated lecturer in nature management. Has developed Nature- and craft festival, and cant wait setting up the festival 2023. Passionate about regenerative sosiety, soil, animals, ocean, plants, and the ecosystem... and sailing:)

We are working to develop a learning arena for horticulture, gastronomy and the restoration of nature, and we are working to create events and festivals that promotes nature and craft traditions. Courses, events and the festival in August are under the organization name.

Throughout the season, we need your help to plan and organize these various events, so there is a lot to learn here:
The different events will have different requirements, you will learn to organize seminars and festivals. You will have the opportunity to learn about ecological restoration of nature and stimulate biological chard. You will learn how to run a farm and at the same time facilitate learning. You will meet others who want and want the same. people who love to grow their own food and at the same time take care of nature. You and we learn about edible wild plants: mushrooms, trees, herbs, bushes, berries, fish, shellfish etc.

This an association that works to continue Nordic cultural heritage. At the farm, you will take part in building up the farm as a place for knowledge sharing, festivals, courses and seminars. With a focus on sustainability, art and culture, music, food & drink, wild plants, transmission of Nordic folk traditions, local natural products, outdoor life and the presence of nature. As well as creating a bridge between manufacturers, suppliers and the public.

Since we have education and extensive experience in mapping as teaching/ arborist/landscaping/lumbering and gardener profession, there will always be opportunities to learn from these experiences. This winter we will cultivate the forest and take out timber for a sawmill on the neighboring farm. Ragnar will also move over 70 bee hives to our farm next season 2023. He also hatches queens, which is very exciting to watch...

The house where we live was last restored in the 70s. Very stylish wallpaper and pearl paneling,- high retro factor! We have three bedrooms and a big caravan. One of the bedrooms is a kind of uninsulated loft with a dobbel bed. But the other two rooms are isolated and perfectly ok standard. In the house there is one bathroom, soon with a bathtub with lion's feet;) The kitchen is ok until we have restored and built a new one...Ps with woolen blankets and big duvets you don't want to freeze.

The caravan you see in the pictures it a wonderful retro-caravan with two double beds.

We have a living room with a large, delicious Jøtul wood-burning stove that creates a good atmosphere in the living room. We love food and hope you do too. Over the season from April to September, we will grow much of the food for our own household, for the festival in August and other events. Since it is our first growing season here, the growth is somewhat uncertain. We lack some elements to make a good compost, but we are working on it. Good compost becomes delicious soil, and black soil with lots of life becomes good food for us.

We share what we grow. Sometimes we cook together and cover the long table, other times we cook in smaller portions. And what we lack we buy at the local grocer, such as flour, milk and butter. Sometimes we fish. Please write to us about your needs, allergies etc before you come. All food is free for our guests/workaways.

Our farm is located deep in Botnekilen in the middle of Kirkøy- Hvaler's largest island.

We recommend checking out Hvaler National Park, the surf-beaches of the islands, kayaking, diving, hiking, food and history.

We have a couple of kayaks, and soon a sea canoe. The sea and the surroundings are absolutely beautiful. There are many different species of bird. The Bay is calm all year round and absolutely perfect for paddling, walks and hiking. Just few km away you have some of the best surf- beaches in Norway.

    How to get here:

It takes 2 houers with the train to Fredrikstad and under one houer with the bus out to Kirkøy. Write: Gardermoen - Fredrikstad. Tickets her:

From Fredrikstad you just take the bus to Kirkøy and then we pick you up at Skjærhalden.
Its also possible to take the bus direct from Gardermoen to Hvaler, it takes under 4 houers.

The "capital" Skjærhalden is located just few km away from the farm with all its shops and restaurants and is naturally Hvaler's largest guest port. On Kirkøy you can, among other things, walk on a marked path through varied nature with windswept old-growth forest, sandy beaches and rocky outcrops.

    Surfing on the Hvaler Islands
Whaler must be said to be among the best surfing spots in Scandinavia. On Kirkøy, by the sandy beaches Ørekroken and Storesand, you have among Norway's best conditions for all types of board surfing. See the best surf spots on Hvaler here:

Ytre Hvaler National Park encompasses 354 km2 of coast and archipelago, and is Norway's first marine national park. As much as 96% of the national park is under water. Plunging cliffs, kelp forests, eelgrass beds and corals are just a few examples of environments that hide below the sea surface. The coral reef at Tisler is one of the largest in Europe.

Hiking: You can start from the national park center at Skjærhalden and follow the coastal path's blue markers out towards the protected lighthouse Homlungen. The path goes through slightly rough terrain on to the bathing beach at Storesand, incidentally one of the country's best sandy beaches. In the summer season, there is a beach cafe here. Otherwise, the island is characterized by rustic and tiny places here and there, often with farms and agricultural operations in the surrounding countryside.

Isegran fort is a fort located on an 80-acre island in Fredrikstad. The fort is mentioned for the first time in 1287 in the Icelander Gottskalk's annals. The island of Isegran juts out from Kråkerøy's east side and divides Glomma's (biggest river in Norway) outlet into two, Østerelva and Vesterelva. In the 1670s, Isegran was reinforced for modern warfare and Admiral Peter Wessel Tordenskiold used it as an important base during the Great Nordic War. Until 1680, Isegran was also the country's only naval port. On Isegran stands Fredrikstad's oldest wooden building - the over 300-year-old "Empire House". The origin of the name "Isegran" is unclear, but it may be a corruption or derivation of Île Grand, French for the large island.

On Isegran island is also Norway's largest collection of protected wooden sailboats - the so-called Colin Archerskjøytene. Colin Archer (born 22 July 1832 at Tollerodden in Larvik, died 8 February 1921 in the same place) was a Norwegian boat constructor with both boat building and shipyards.

Archer is particularly known for Fridtjof Nansen's polar ship "Fram", for his improvement of the landing skids and for having created the rescue skis. In total, he built more than 200 boats, of which 70 were pleasure craft, 60 were pilot boats and 14 were lifeboats. The first lifeboat, the RS1, to bear Archer's name, was launched in 1893, and served for 40 years. It now belongs to the Norwegian Maritime Museum and is still in use.
