Volunteering with the Hare Krishna Movement in England.
We are a non-profit, community organization based just outside of London.
In the Hertfordshire countryside just on the outskirts of London, the manor, complete with its farmlands, beautiful gardens and temple is a real sanctuary for the soul. Open all year round to visitors and students of ancient wisdom, the temple offers a great experience with tours of the shrine, gardens and compassionate farm.
A welcoming, vibrant and cheerful farm community set in the countryside just outside of London.
In addition to the main theological college, we have a farm of 100 acres with 60 cows and oxen, an 8 acre vegetable growing area, formal gardens, fruit orchards (modest size), hedges, small woodlands and bee hives. We grow naturally using cow manure fertilizer and we don't use pesticides or herbicides. Our aim is to grow as much food as we can on the land that we have in pursuance of self sufficiency.
We are situated on the outskirts of London and so the location is ideal for someone who would like to visit the city in their free time. A train from Radlett to Kings cross station in London takes about 20 minutes and will cost just under £10
Radlett train station is a 25 minute walk from the farm or alternatively, a 5 minute bus ride.
Whilst here, we will try to offer volunteers an assortment of activities to take part in.
Dependent on the number of volunteers here at a given time, activities can range from serving in the farm to milking the cows by hand to cooking in the kitchen to helping with decorations and preparations for one of our many festivals throughout the year. Our wish is give you a most memorable and enjoyable experience that you can delight in sharing with others.
Our diet is lacto vegetarian and as such milk is in a lot of our foods.
Vegans do stay with us and can navigate the menu to some degree. Most of the milk and milk products are from our own cows.Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

Previous Workawayers have always commented that they were able to develop and improve their English speaking skills.
We want to offer you a unique and alternative experience to witness the practices of ancient Indian vedic civilization and self sufficiency.
While you are here, we wish that you feel no pressure at all to get involved but that you know that if you want to, you can get as involved as you would like to in the spiritual practices and ceremonies of the temple.Registered charity
This host is a registered charity in the UK and is looking for help with their charity project. Guidance on charity worker sponsorship by a UK registered charity, can be found here.

Gardening in our large vegetable area will take most of the volunteer time, sowing, weeding, planting, watering, harvesting etc.
Depending on the number of Workawayers at a given time, there will also be tasks with our 60 cows and oxen, grooming, milking, cleaning, helping with our oxen( If Workawayers stay some time and have the aptitude we will train them to yoke and drive our ox teams).
In a year, we have 12 major festivals, our largest being around August which has over 80,000 people visiting over 2 days. For these festivals, there is lots of decorations and preparations that we would love for you to get involved in.Idiomas hablados

Alojamiento
We have 1 caravan with 8 beds, a shower and a toilet which has recently been renovated for the men to come and stay in.
We have a nicely decorated caravan for ladies which has 9 beds, a shower and a toilet.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the main house which is about a 10 minute walk from the caravans.
We do not have any shared rooms, at this time for couples, but couples are welcome if they don't mind being accommodated separately.
For your ease and comfort, we ask that you bring your own sleeping bag.
We do have mattress protectors but we encourage you to bring a bedsheet and pillow with you to make it feel that bit more homely.
If all our designated beds are full you are welcome to come and stay in a tent that we will happily provide for you if you don't have your own.
There are toilet and shower facilities in a cabin outside for those that are staying in tents. These are quite old now and there is a proposal on the table to update these facilities very soon.
There is no cooking facilities in the caravans but we do have a communal area where there is facilities for you to cook and socialize.Algo más...
As the Hare Krishna Movement is a vegetarian based faith society we ask all our volunteers to refrain from eating meat, fish or eggs whilst on the property. All meals provided are vegetarian. In addition, there is a policy of no smoking, alcohol or drugs on the premises.
