Jared and Lindsey are partners in building a campground and retreat center on the Locust Fork River in north Alabama. We live in intentional community down the road from the retreat center with about 30 other folks on 200 acres of land. Lindsey lives in a converted school bus with her dog Fieval and cat Raj; Jared lives in an octagonal cabin with his two teenage sons. We have lots of river access and love to spend time floating, splashing in waterfalls, playing music, and walking in the woods.
Some of the work you'll do will be on the retreat center, and some will be at our sites in the community. We ask for 20 hours a week of work; some at our homesites and some at the retreat center. We pay up to $100/week for work done at the retreat center. We do some meals together and you are on your own for some meals. There are often other folks in the communities who are looking for help with building or garden projects, so it's very possible to pick up other paid work while you are here.

We live in an intentional community down the road from the retreat center. As a WorkAwayer with us, you'll have the change to experience intentional community. We are happy to facilitate learning and connection to folks with knowledge about sustainable practices like solar power, rainwater catchment, seed saving, permaculture, natural building, and more.
We are welcoming and affirming to LGBTQ and BIPOC folks.

You'll stay in a beautiful yome (a yurt/dome combo) in the intentional community, with electricity, a full sized bed, and a a ceiling fan. It does not have air conditioning, but there is a lot of airflow. We'll share some meals on work days, and for your other meals you'll have a fridge and a camp stove to cook on in the yome, or join other community members for meals. You'll have an outdoor shower and a composting toilet.
We have lots of musicians and contra dancers in our community who love to play and sing with friends. The Locust Fork river provides great opportunity for kayaking, swimming, and playing in private waterfalls, and there is good top rope climbing and bouldering not too far from our area. In the summer we love to float in inner tubes down the river or to go swimming in the community pond. We get lots and lots of time in the woods.
