  • Description

Hi! We are Liv and Kris - 23 year old South African's who have recently moved to the UK after finishing our studies in psychology at the University of Cape Town. We don't know the UK very well, and are hoping to travel around a bit before settling down and being grown-ups :)

South Africa is a big, beautiful and diverse country with nine official languages and an amazing history - we could teach you some Afrikaans or Zulu and tell you about South African traditions, show you South African music, or tell you about some of our fascinating history, Liv could tell you about growing up on a rural South African farm at the foot of Lesotho and feeding/running away from buffalo, and Kris could fill you in on life in Johannesburg and on his crazy adventures road tripping around Southern Africa.

    A little bit about Liv:
Exploring motivates me! My favourite thing about travelling is learning from other people, learning about new cultures, learning new languages and hearing stories. I love being outdoors, hiking, climbing, swimming, or just being in nature. I adore animals of any kind and I think we can learn a lot from them! Music is my passion and is also something I love sharing and creating with people, as I believe it is a beautiful way of getting to know someone.
I am always open to new experiences and to learning new things and have a never-ending, ever-growing bucketlist.
I am also very keen to learn new skills, such as gardening skills, restoration, eco-building, foraging, carpentry, animal care - anything really! I am particularly interested in exploring "alternative ways of living", to find a way of living that is different to the one we are told is the only and "right" one. I also like to think of myself as a decent and mostly competent cook..

    A little bit about Kris:
The travelling I have done so far has brought a wealth of experiences where I have met beautiful people, seen some spectacular scenery and learnt invaluable lessons which have inspired me to collect even more memories like these.
Being in nature and as close to the earth as possible, is where I feel most at home with any activity from hiking to swimming only adding to the experience. I am always very curious, always seeking wisdom and believe that every person we bump into can teach us something new.
I have a passion for history, music, connecting with people and immersing myself in different environments and cultures. Like Liv, I am also very interested in learning about ways of living that go against the mainstream grain. So I would love to learn more about skills such as permaculture, foraging, sustainable animal rearing and many more! I am very excited to continue exploring, learning and hopefully one day even start our own sustainable workaways home!

    Liv:
I can speak three languages - English is my native language, but I am fairly competent/intermediate level in French and Afrikaans. I am a passionate musician, and have performed at many venues in Cape Town and a few festivals, and an aspiring writer and I love creating things in all senses! I grew up on a farm and have done Workaways on other farms, so have some experience with manual labour, feeding calves and other animals, milking cows, clearing land and mending a few things here or there but I am always keen to learn more! I am not afraid of getting mucky or dirty and I am not really squeamish in any way. I have done a few community projects including painting houses and classrooms, sanding down and varnishing walls and mending doors and chairs. I am keen to expand my skills in all areas and am a quick and enthusiastic learner! I also have experience in waitressing, bartending, being a barista and housekeeping - working at restaurants, hostels and hotels in a few different countries.
In terms of education, I have a degree in English Literature, Psychology and French Language and Literature. I also have a TEFL (teaching English to Foreign languages) qualification. I have worked as a tutor in various subjects, working with school children from ages 6 all the way to 18. I also have a lot of babysitting experience.

    Kris:
My home language is English and I can speak relatively fluent Afrikaans and can understand it almost completely. My musical abilities do not hold a candle to Liv's but I have a passion for listening to music, love writing and am always trying to foster my creative spirit. I enjoy cooking and while I am no Gordon Ramsay, my meals are mostly quite tasty. I have worked with various community service projects where we have refurbished schools and churches where we have sanded, painted and done some base-level carpentry. I would like to increase my DIY knowledge base and I am always keen to learn ways of becoming more self-sustainable! I have also worked on community service projects that look after abandoned animals ranging from dogs to pigs and I love and feel very comfortable around animals. I have tutored school children who have come from disadvantaged areas and have also baby sat and played with the younger school children from these areas.
I also have experience in waitering, bartending and barista work and have also worked at a wine tasting.
My education includes a degree majoring in Psychology and History and am currently completing a course in Counseling Psychology.
