I am currently in France, staying with family, after quitting my job in the UK and wanting to take a year out, or several to travel. Interested in learning spanish, either in Spain or in South America
My next destination:
Spain - from May 2025 until Sep 2025 View allDescription
Hi, my name's Suzie, I'm an English/French gal with a heap of enthusiasm and curiosity for life and what's on offer.
Currently, I'm at a point in my journey where I want to take a career break from my job to learn Spanish, and to work a ski season in the French alps to brush up on my skiing and indulge in mountain life (raclette/ fondue/après ski).
I'm a nurse by trade, currently working in the emergency department and I love it!! It's a big, fast-paced, stressful department with a high turnover of patients, but the opportunities to be involved in actually turning around a patient's immediate threat to life are almost daily, and this, of course, brings endless amounts of satisfaction and humbles me greatly.
It's time, however, for a break from that, to discover other trades, and complete different but otherwise still fulfilling missions out there.
I consider myself easy to get along with, I'm not fussy when in comes to eating, sleeping, working, and am flexible around other people's habits and personalities. I love to get involved, I can be told what to do and will take up the task with as much enthusiasm as I can give, as everything to me represents a learning opportunity.
I'm a hard worker no doubt, and will always respect people's boundaries and get on with the job, but must admit I am always in it to have fun amongst my professional capacities, otherwise...what would be the point?:)) Being a nurse on duty has taught me to almost forget myself while working for others, forgetting the outside world and distractions, for the benefit of caring for those who are vulnerable and need care. However, when I'm off duty, I care about nothing less than myself to have fun with colleagues, friends and family. Self care is important in this society, playing and having fun is necessary for the body and mind.
When I apply for a workaway, or contact you as a host, you can be assured I will have read the entire description, thought carefully, and be contacting you only with serious regard as to my application. I will respond quickly, probably within one day or two days at most. I have just created this account so this is my honest description that might be modified later. Feel free to ask as many questions and I will do the same.
For information, I have my EU citizenship as am a dual national English/French, and am fluent in French as I lived there for ten years.Interests

I've taught English a little bit to my friend's little sister as a favour with a small compensation, nothing grandiose, and enjoyed it. I made the lessons varied and playful, making sure to include grammar, listening, speaking, writing, and space for creativity and how and what they wish to learn. I am SO eager to learn Spanish throughout this year, as I have many Spanish friends, have visited many times, and adore their taste in food and music. Their humour too:)Skills and knowledge I'd like to share or learn

To summarise, I have been a nurse for 3 years, and a lifeguard for a summer season before that. I have worked in the hospitality sector as a bartender then as a bar manager for 4 years whilst studying for my nursing degree, and have volunteered in a shelter for young homeless people. I have a small fair share of babysitting experience, and have also spent a lot of time with my dad doing DIY around the house and learning manual labour skills.
Nursing has taught me first aid, time and priority management, leadership, trust and professionalism.
Being a lifeguard, I can swim fast, have endurance in buckets, and equally first aid skills in the aquatic sector.
My volunteering in the shelter taught me new levels of empathy and caring, respecting boundaries and inputting safeguarding when necessary.
My small experience with babysitting has spanned from babies to 16 year olds, and has taught me how to show authority whilst keeping a playful nature, and not to swear all the damn time!!:)
Helping my dad with house renovations have included chopping wood, plastering, putting up walls, tiling, and some gardening.Age

What else ...
I like photography and modelling, playing catan, perudo, mancala, chess and card games. I like to paint symmetrical mandalas, and have dabbled in felting. I love diffusing essential oils and burning incense. I really enjoy tasting new things and also the traditional dishes such as carbonara, a plateau of charcuterie, raclette, steak frites, magret de canard, sunday roast, etc (I do aspire to be a vegetarian one day^^). I enjoy playing video games and reading cheesy romance novels, along with non-fiction books on physics, biology, religion and the secret life of crystals. I meditate, cycle around a lot and take long walks with my family's dog in the forest.. and I love to sleep also, it's very important!
I like home decorating and fashion, whilst trying to remain a minimalist and not overspending (it's a hard life - I try to be thrifty), and also love going out for a drink or two with friends.
Sports wise, I enjoy a hike, swimming, skiing, and small home workouts. I live in a bustling city at the moment, but cannot wait to be in nature to start enjoying the little things and not be greedy to climb the social ladder or do this and that with no respite.
Take me on and I'll give this experience my everything! Some more information
