  • Description

Hello! my name is Stuart! and I am looking to go on my first real big adventure! I am hoping to embark on a once in a lifetime trip starting November 2024, I have always been interested in the great outdoors, and being outside in general, I live in a very rural part of Scotland (the south west) and it's rolling hills and fields have given me plenty to enjoy whether it be walking or hiking. I am intending to visit New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, various regions of south east Asia, Japan, the USA before finishing in Canada before heading back home to bonnie Scotland! I am really hoping to break out of my county and see what fantastic sights, wildlife and culture, the world has to offer.

My travel experience is relatively low, I have been to Iceland which in terms of geography and topography is unique to anywhere else in the world, and to Amsterdam (which was great!) but I have been wanting to really see what's out there, especially having lived in a very sheltered community most of my life I now feel its time to finally take that plunge!

I was a former water utilities engineer at Scottish water which is our national drinking water and waste water provider for Scotland, this mostly involved on working an excavating various infrastructure in all weathers and times, not to mention in all manners of mud and mess! but I fully enjoyed it and I would be more than happy to do a physical role wherever I can, I also briefly volunteered for the Scottish wildlife trust, helping with repairing dykes (stone walls) fencing and clearing any brush or tree debris where required, to allow for the best habitat for local flora and fauna. I am now working with data analysis so I can certainly do some IT work when needed!

I consider myself pretty outgoing, I am not shy and I like to have a good time with the people around me and to get to know them. I am also quite curious , always wondering what's over that hill? or what's in there? I sometimes find that this in itself can lead to a good adventure! I enjoy walking, reading and keeping active, and taking in the the landscapes that are around me.

Thank you for reading, I am looking forward to meeting the many new faces and helping others where I can during my time away!

More details about my language interests
I suppose being from the UK,I haven't really been exposed to languages during my time at school/further education or even within in the general community. I have tried to learn a bit of Scottish Gaelic which is an endangered language and is enriched in local culture but unfortunately very few people speak it, I would be really interested in trying my hand to learn a new language as it would be very interesting and a great way to encompass myself in the place that I am visiting whether it would be helping to understand and connect with local people or even the culture in general, and any extra knowledge is always a great thing!
