Description
I just graduated from my Master's degree in Linguistics and now I find myself pretty lost :) After dwelling on possible career prospects and maybe moving abroad (again) I decided that I first want to embark on another workaway adventure that could possibly inspire me to think different and get out of my rut, before I dedicate myself to a full-time job.
Due to covid I haven't been able to travel as much as I wanted to during these past couple years so now I find myself full of energy and excitement to go somewhere new and meet interesting people that, I hope, can become long-lasting friends and that I will surely learn something from.
I am empathetic, creative, sociable and responsible. At the same time I enjoy spending some time by myself to write and process whatever happens during the day. I have had 3 volunteering experiences in the past in family households and self-sufficient and organic farms, I worked for a year at a hostel, respectively in Norway, Montana (USA), Denmark and Iceland. I also have some experience teaching Italian and English. I myself grew up in the countryside surrounded by animals and vineyards BUT I feel like I have so much to learn still, and I can't wait to!! I want to learn more about animals, medicinal herbs, self-sufficiency, community living, arts and crafts... I can't list it all! So for sure you will find me very eager and curious :)

I know a little bit about gardening, vegan cooking and animal care, and have experience with kids (especially in teaching). Plus I am very creative so if I don't know something in that area I will learn it very quickly :) But most of all, I am not afraid of getting my hands dirty!

During the endless lockdowns I started experimenting with jewelry-making. I have a passion for analogue photography since I was 16, literature is probably my favourite thing in the world, I used to take horseback riding lessons when I was a kid and... they say I make the best baked potatoes and lentils ragù! :))

It was a great pleasure for us that Serena was on our farm! She is very friendly, polite, thoughtful & all around an enrichment! She was always motivated to help and support us no matter what we did. Our 5-year-old daughter also likes her very much! We are happy if she comes to us again :-)

(Help on a sustainable ...)

It took me some time to write this feedback because I left the farm a bit tired and with bitter feelings, but now the whole experience is much clearer in my head. I came to Matthias's and Hilde's farm in June with the intention of staying maybe one month, and then I ended up staying almost all summer. Since week 1 I felt completely comfortable… read more with both of them, appreciated and encouraged for the work I did and included in every part of their life. If you're interested in sustainable ways of life and in reconnecting to nature, Matthias will open up and shower you with all the knowledge he has. Practically you don't need much to gain his trust, just show you're motivated and interested in the project and he will support you in every way. In teaching me all the different jobs at the farm he was patient and we joked a lot, so it was always fun to work together. Hilde is such a kind soul that there's practically no way to make her angry - she's so appreciative of every little thing you do, either in the house or outside, and she endlessly says "thank you!" or "you're great!". We had so many insightful and mind-opening conversations, and I felt like I could talk to her just about anything. She's always open to listen to you and I find her one of the most transparent and patient people I ever met. As for little Ramina... she definitely has a big personality! On my very first day she decided to make friends with me and taught me a lot of German, made braids with my hair, we played and made lots of drawings together. I miss her very much :(
At the farm I also met uncountable great people, either visitors interested in the project, neighbours, long-time friends, new acquaintances, relatives or volunteers... you name it! It felt like a big family to me and we spent such remarkable times together - having dinners outside, picnics in the lavender field, playing music, working in the fields, cooking together... I lost count! Not to mention the real owners of the farm: the cats! They all have big personalities and give so much character to the place - if you need company you will always find some in them, especially in Rudy, the chillest cat in the world who will visit you on your working days, wherever you are.
The main season at the farm is definitely the summer, starting with weeding in the lavender field, then picking the lavender and making the essential oil from it, then on with the hemp and finally the aronia berries. Other jobs might be taking care of the new trees in the forest, making aronia juice, weeding in the vegetable garden, cutting wood, putting labels on the products for the shop, helping in the house, fixing and building things... you definitely can't get bored and there's something just for anyone. Sometimes it can be hectic but that's also part of working at a farm, following nature's rhythms.
Overall this was a deeply transformative experience that taught me so much about myself, other people, communication, sustainable farming, spirituality, I can't name it all. If you go there with an open mind, a whole world will open up to you.
