More details about my language interests
I am a TEFL certified English teacher, so I am able to teach English. I am highly conversational in Spanish, and basic conversational in Portuguese (am currently learning). I am interested in further strengthening my skills in both languages, with the goal of becoming professionally fluent in Spanish, and highly conversational in Portuguese. I have taught friends and fellow travelers basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar, which I could do again. However, a native Spanish speaker is usually a much more beneficial teacher. I would be happy to partner with native speakers in teaching either Spanish or Portuguese to travelers.

  • More details about your skills

I have a Bachelor's degree in Global Studies, and have lived and studied in over 10 countries. I am am a TEFL certified English teacher, and have worked with children and youth (3-15 years old) for a combined total of 4 years. I have experience with youth from all backgrounds, especially youth with ASD and other neurodivergent diagnoses. I am a camp counselor who is certified in adult and pediatric First Aid and CPR, and have plentiful experience leading groups of people in recreational activities, art programming and general meetings. I am also a trained circle keeper and mediation facilitator, and would be interested in bringing these skills and my love for movement to whichever placement.

I am familiar and practiced in many art and handicraft forms including weaving, crochet, painting, drawing, letterpress and woodblock printing, cloth dying, jewelry-making, and other hands-on art forms. I am also a rafter, scuba diver, hiker, singer, herbalist, and animal enthusiast.

While I do not have as much experience, I am very interested in engaging with projects that are centered around sustainable living, especially permaculture practices and eco-building. Sustainable lifestyle is something I have been very passionate about in my personal life, and I want to learn and build more practical skills to take into my future.

  • What else ...

I love group games and activities! As a camp counselor, I love to play interactive games such as capture the flag, ultimate frisbee, etc. I love volleyball and have been known to join a football or basketball game. I enjoy singing and group music sessions, as well as yoga, dance and other movement practices. These are also activities I'd be happy to facilitate, though I am not a trained instructor. I am also a lifelong swimmer, and would love to swim where possible (I can also teach/coach swimming if needed). I enjoy all water sports, actually.

I love nature and animals, and would be thrilled to engage in animal care, nature identification and conservation projects both on land and at sea.

I love to create nature-based and recycled art projects. This is something that comes naturally to me when I come across unused materials, and I would be ecstatic to work on some upcycling/recycling art projects during Workaway placements. I would be fully prepared to lead and facilitate these projects if needed.
