We both graduated from university last year and are travelling together for some time.
Both originally from Ireland we have been together for three years and are a friendly, enthuasiastic couple who love meeting new people and getting stuck into the outdoors, new projects, challenges, foods, and cultures.

Sadhbh (sounds like the number five with an S - Sive)
I am outgoing, energetic, and love to meet new people. I have finished my degree in business with German, I also speak Irish and English and am currently learning Spanish (still in the early days). I play many instruments - piano, saxaphone, guitar, ukelele and more. I also sing and I am always excited when I get the chance to share music with others. I love to be outdoors. I try to always be learning something new and am very enthusiastic to share my knowledge wherever I can.

Dara
I have graduated from a masters in computer science and am super excited to put myself out there and explore the world a bit more. I love to travel, immerse myself in different cultures, and learn all kinds of new skills. I especially like getting hands-on with DIY projects to learn and improve on those skills. Cooking is my happy place and I'm so excited to share this with other hosts and workawayers and have definitely been trying to up my cooking game while traveling. One of the main reasons I enjoy traveling with workaway is the opportunities to connect with nature, people and living more in the physical world than the digital one.

We spent such a great week with Dara and Sadhbh ! They were both really enthousiastic for everything, playing games, enjoying nice diners or doing yoga. And, icing on the cake, they worked hard, quickly and efficiently, understanding very quickly what was asked and how to do it.

Sadhbh & Dara are SUCH GREAT MEMBERS OF THE TEAM YOU SHOULD SNATCH THEM UP WITH BOTH HANDS IF THEY'RE INTERESTED IN YOUR PROJECT.
(Switching to non-capitals, not because the feeling isn't there, but this is easier to read).
Truly, Sadhbh and Dara have been absolutely outstanding workawayers - they are fun, friendly, engaging, interested in… read more learning, exceptionally hardworking (good luck getting them to stick to only doing their hours) and really lovely human beings.
They tackled a huge range of projects while they were over and there truly is no end to their talents (at least there isn't one that we managed to find!). They both spent time plastering and rendering with us, achieving really good finishes and were meticulous about cleaning up tools and putting things away once they were finished.
I think Dara particularly enjoyed projects where he was able to think through a problem and come up with a solution- he repurposed a former for an arched lintel above a doorway and i think enjoyed the process from start to finish, ending with a beautifully finished plastered archway including neat corners. Super impressed with his dedication to the job.
Sadhbh spent some time doing an absolutely fabulous restoration job of an old piece of furniture, with many hours of sanding down and oiling, and we were so impressed with her attention to detail, which was second to none. The cabinet looks truly beautiful now and we will think fondly of Sadhbh everytime we look at it.
In addition to all of this hard work, Dara enjoys cooking (and cooks exceptionally well!) but one of his conditions is that Sadhbh entertains him with her glorious musical talent while he does the prep. So we had this gorgeous songbird who would burst into song randomly, and beautifully, throughout the workday and evening and it was such a joy to hear her. Mike loved all the jam sessions they had together, and the rest of us less musical mortals loved being in the same space.
Sadhbh and Dara are truly wonderful beings - they did a wonderful job of keeping the animals all well-fed , snuggled and cared for while we had to go back to the UK, and really did so much for us that I will be eternally grateful. If this sounds like a gushing love letter to the pair of them, it's because it is ;-)
Together they have a wonderful chemistry, and they are so good at including others in their fun that they're just a pleasure to have around. Just don't play any boardgames with them...

We stayed at Sam and mike’s for 6 weeks in November/December 2024 and they are two of the most wonderful, kind, welcoming, and fun people we’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with. They and their pets do an amazing job of nurturing a wonderful community and made us feel part of it from the second we arrived and still now even though we… read more are gone (but we will be back...).

We are both animal lovers and adored this house with Pippa, Whisper and Shadow always adding sparks of joy throughout the day. All three are well trained, well loved, gentle and super social. They were always hanging around for cuddles especially in the evenings and at bed time if you wanted them. Pippa is an amazing tour guide of the old town and surrounding hills and we happily took her for many walks where we followed her lead to get to know the city.

Sam organises the Workawayers and is super open and encouraging of people taking on projects they want to work on and learn from. Over the course of our 6 week stay we worked on a wide variety of different projects including but not limited to: wall demolition, waterproofing a terrace, dog walking, restoring an old cabinet, chopping up waste wood, mixing concrete, pet sitting, pouring a concrete lintel, adding cement to reinforce walls, plastering, hanging a coat rack, sewing machine repair, and stripping paint from an old door frame. So the work is pretty varied and it worked well for us to be self-motivated in getting stuck into a number of different projects.

Lunch each day was delicious, we usually had fresh baguettes with meats, tofu, veg and cheese. Sadhbh is gluten intolerant and Sam and Mike happily bought either rice cakes or gluten free bread for her instead. Everyone in the house takes it in turns to cook dinner which gives a great chance to try all the Workawayers home cuisines. When it is your turn to cook, you buy the ingredients yourself and they reimburse you later. Sam is an incredible cook and was super conscious and careful of everyone’s dietary requirements.

Silves is a wonderful city and the amenities around are gorgeous from the cafes to the bars to the restaurants to the charity shops most anything you need you’ll be able to find in Silves. Sam and Mike are super friendly and know someone in just about every shop or cafe and can give you great recommendations. The house is right in the middle of the old town and so everything is within walking distance. If you do want to go further afield its a 35 minute walk to the train station that can take you in the direction of either Faro or Lagos to reach the sea or the other cities for plenty of gorgeous day trips.

There is so much that this feedback can’t cover properly like Sam’s incredible caring nature, Mike’s joking around, to the many wonderful evenings spending time together in the games room because they are simply things you have to experience yourself. So, if this reads like we’re trying to convince you to go here that’s because we are.
