Alanna:
Hello, I’m Alanna. I’m currently a bartender and server in my hometown of Columbus. I have a love of nature and the outdoors which led me to pursue a degree in Biological Sciences, along with a certificate in Latin American Studies to satisfy my fascination with other cultures and languages.

In the past, I have worked as a lifeguard, swim instructor, and even as a field intern for the Environmental Protection Agency. I still enjoy swimming, as well as hiking, reading, and eating as many new and unfamiliar foods as I can possibly try. I’ve been gardening and propagating my own houseplants for a few years, and next I would like to learn more about growing my own food.

Working in the service industry has given me the flexibility to travel widely and I have been fortunate enough to visit parts of the United States, South America, Asia, and Europe, so far. I’m looking forward to seeing more of the world and experiencing day-to-day life in other places. In addition to English, I speak Spanish and Portuguese—I appreciate any opportunity to improve my conversation skills and share what I know.

Hello there! I'm Andrew, I’m currently based out of Columbus, Ohio. I went to school for linguistics and have a general interest in history, philosophy, theology, film, music, and politics. For most of my adult life I worked for CAM International, an Asian market with a focus on Chinese cuisine. Here, my Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Taiwanese coworkers introduced me to new kinds of food, languages, and hobbies that fed my desire to travel and see the world. I was also fortunate enough to have worked in their Hot Pot restaurant and run an Asian street food and bubble tea shop before Covid! I am quite fond of food from all over the world as my background is Hungarian and Polish. I grew up eating whatever European dishes my mother and grandmother would make for us and loved helping in the kitchen whenever I could. In addition, I have a background in flipping houses (general carpentry), working maintenance for music venues around Columbus, landscaping, and most recently serving (which is how Alanna and I met). I have yet to leave the country, but have been to 45 states, and it is a personal goal of mine to visit all seven continents! My love for reading, writing, film, and language has brought me to learn basics in several languages including French, Chinese, Turkish, and Indonesian. I hope to meet people via Workaway from all around the world, in turn expanding my knowledge of food, culture, and language.
