  • Description

We are Natalie and Ozan, dreamers and believers from Australia and Turkey. We met while Natalie was on research placement in Ozan's hometown Ankara and have been staying still and moving together since.

Natalie was raised next to the beach in Australia by parents who still love exploring and taught her to do the same. She just graduated from her Masters in the history, philosophy, art and architecture of the Islamic Middle East and is now working as a research assistant and writer on cultural heritage. She has always been torn between her love of physical things to do with land & hands and mental activities to do with culture and decolonisation and is currently attempting to merge the two.

Ozan was raised in the forests of Ankara where he spent his time speaking to forest spirits real and imagined. He has just finished a project management role that ran for the last two years and aims to conserve, promote and foster agricultural heritage and practices in Turkey and the wider Mediterranean. He loves this work and coordinating relationships between growers and 'pro'sumers but misses working with his hands. He is a trained geologist and earth systems scientist and now wants to work more and more with soil.

We love each others work and are constantly finding cross-overs and opportunities between our complimenting interests.

Over the next few months to a lifetime we both want to spend time in places coming to understand the land, its peoples, foods and the symbiotic relationships between them. We one day hope to have a place of our own and until this becomes a possibility we'd like to learn as much as possible about agroecological practices and eco-construction all around the world.

We love meeting new people and think that workaway is the best way to spend time in a place, as it provides the opportunity to be something more than a passing stranger and place a few roots where ever you go. Plus its the best way to see incredible places and the people, animals and plants that make them so.

We are both passionate learners, always looking to expand our knowledge and skills.

Ozan has lots of experience and knowledge of permaculture and community supported agricultural practices. He's great with graphic design and social media management. He's also a qualified climate consciousness trainer for youth and a wonderful cook.

Natalie has lots of experience working with food, loves exploring new produce and preservation traditions as well as herbalism. She has lots of experience with copywriting, editing and general word and data tasks. She's worked with many accomodation businesses, has done a ton of seasonal harvesting work and is always nesting and making things beautiful where ever she goes.

We both love animals and each miss the cat and dogs we have back at our homes. We also love hanging with kids and exploring creative ways of being and learning.

We have each spent times with diverse groups of people from many different parts of the world. We think of ourselves as open communicators and always try to treat others with respect, kindness and the capacity to come to understanding. We love being in natural places with a big love and preference for the sea and mountains but also often find ourselves in cities.

We're not sure how we'll find time in one lifetime to focus on all the things we want to do or places we'd like to go, but for now we're focusing our energy on North Africa and discovering intangible heritages, ecological building techniques and how people are living with the land.

    Hope to chat further soon!

  • More details about your skills

Years of experience working in accomodation, hospitality and retail roles, which has allowed me to hone the capability to interact with all different kinds of people, as well as the practical skills associated with all of these positions.

I have worked as a research, administration and data management assistant as well as a journalist and teacher for young children and am thus very competent with computers and have a high level of English literacy.

I have also worked in agriculture and all different sorts of harvests (some through workaway). These include greens, olives, wine grapes, cherries, apples.

I am a very organised, fast and capable learner. Lovely to have around and invested and interested in the many different projects I love to have going on.
