Travelling
Description
I'm an environmental and outdoor educator, community organiser, DJ and radio presenter from Melbourne, Australia. I won a Green Card in the lottery (!?) and am spending this year exploring the US; having worked the Summer at an activism-themed kids' camp in Massachusetts, I'm looking for my next adventure.
I have a lot of love for community-focused forms of travel (hitchhiking, couchsurfing, Workaway)- it's a fast track to connection with places and people, and I'm constantly blown away by the fun and randomness of it all :) I also have a background in community living (primarily at a volunteer-run guest house for First Nations people in Melbourne), and love opportunities to connect over the particular joys and challenges of sharing space with others in this way.
I'm a solo traveller but very social, so I'm particularly keen on Workaway placements that will feel social, lively and well-connected. Always open to learning new things, and appreciate a mix of manual and mental/social labour. Back home in Melbourne, I tend to juggle a mix of many paid and unpaid projects, and thrive being busy - but I also benefit from taking time to slow down, get to know a place, and tackle my never-ending reading list.
My work background is varied, and reflects the buzz I get working with people: customer service, hospitality, events, admin, toilet cleaning, childcare and education. My time as a volunteer resident at the Indigenous Hospitality House back home also included cooking, housekeeping and hosting guests. A quick and keen learner, willing to jump in to anything and give it my all!
I'm new to Workaway but have couchsurfed, and volunteered in community projects, urban farms, event organising, hospitality, fundraising, childcare, charity admin and community organising. If you want to suss me out feel free to check out my Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/mia.adelaide.allen) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/meaculpa.xx) profiles :)

More details about your skills
I've had a really varied work life, so I'm very adaptable and have dabbled in many things - from childcare to administration, customer service to maintenance, cleaning to camping trips! My skills particularly lie in childcare, teaching and customer service, but I'm also decent at cooking, gardening, cleaning, sewing, laundry, raking, tidying, painting, and event and activist organising. I've lived in an array of situations, including community houses requiring that I cook, clean, make accomodation bookings and learn how to live well with an unpredictable and transient cast of characters! I'll jump into anything and learn quickly :)
