  • Description

It’s Matilda here, age 42 from Singapore. I’m bilingual with English and Chinese/Mandarin. Trying to learn some Duolingo Spanish.

It’s finally the time I’m ready to join the workaway group. 🤞🏽 Fingers Crossed that either hosts or workaway friends-to-be will read my profile.

My bag packed ready to take on a new journey, a long waited dream. I leaving Singapore on the 22nd Feb 2023 and will be landing in Oslo, Norway, hopefully to get a glimpse of the northern lights from journey up north. I would love to explore the United Kingdom, Ireland and Europe intensively, meeting new people, experience leaving abroad.

I'm definitely up for some hikes, walk about town and cities, scenic train rides, some volunteer work, that's why I have finally registered with an account here after a few months of wait.

I’m open to anything… honestly… I am pretty spontaneous just not very into partying, drinking and eating shellfood (which I lately found out that my aging body is not adapting to them so well)

    A little background about me:
I started traveling since 13 years old without my parents. My late Dad had always been telling me stories about his travel. He doesn’t understand a single bit of English, hence didn’t manage any where out of Asia. He always dreamt that I can bring him along to Europe one day. Sadly, I didn’t get the chance.

Like my Late Dad, I have always wanted to see the world. But after his death when I turn 21 years old, I was the sole breadwinner taking care of my mom and younger brother. Life has been tough till recent years that my younger brother finally started working while he cope better with his depression.

I thought it’s time I can let go and with this little savings I have, to start traveling, exploring different cultures, experience different seasons and climate. Most importantly to grow in wisdom and spirituality.

I’m a certified Optometrist with a Diploma in Optometry, but during my midlife crisis, I switched and work as a Anytime Fitness a club manager. I’m also a Freelance Sports Massage therapist , working freelance allow me save up more $$$ to travel in search of an enlightenment for what life is and one day to meet my father.

He once told me in my dreams, “you can’t come to my side yet”.

I enjoy watching documentaries on animals, food, travel and culture. Most recent read Forty Rules Of Love (Rumi) and trying to read the untethered soul by Michael A. Singer.

Music… is something I can’t leave without. I listen from meditative nature relaxing sounds, jazz, classical, cafe, lo-fi, deep house to EDM. Just not heavy metal…

Now, I want to listen to the music that you enjoy in your language too.

While being hosted, I can share my limited knowledge with basic anatomy of our eyes, body conditions and skills for massaging and trigger Point release for muscle aches or sports related injury.

My experience with managing Optical Retail shops as an Retail optometrist as well as a Fitness Club Manager has definitely groom me to be a people person. I hand people well with respect. Although at the age of 42, turning 43 this year (2023) I am still eager to learn new skills and to take initiative to help anyone out as much as I can offer with my capability. Other than having face to face customer-relations and problem solving, I also manages my company's social media platform creating simple contents for engagements and also prospecting. I am also good at organising group activities, games and events for small groups. Telephone prospecting, messages prospecting, you name it. Being a manager in the retail and fitness club, I will have to plan staff schedules as well as getting dirty to clearing trash cans and cleaning the toilets. Even to be a handyman to do simple repair works such as changing light bulbs.

At the same time I’m more than willing to obtain more wisdom. spiritual and intellectually.

I enjoyed the outdoors especially hiking and trekking. I really love the idea of outdoor camping but the weather is too hot in Singapore but the major set back is… only limited area for pitching tents and we need to apply permits.

I do hold a Scuba Diving Instructor Certification but have stopped practicing 10 years ago as I devote into learning other skills.

I’m now into Reiki Healing and I hope to practice and improve my “skills” along the way. I’m always ready to explore new experiences.

Thank you for reading and I do hope that I will be able to meet many of the lovely and beautiful hosts and workaways alike in this community.

More details about my language interests
Since I'm from Singapore, I'm able to share with you more on Singlish, it's a language that is so informal that we use along in Singapore with a mixture of cultural spice to it. I'm Chinese by race though I'm born and breed in Singapore, I still have my Chinese roots to teach some basic Chinese (spoken), written, not so good as I hardly practices it now a days. I'm definitely keen in learning some Spanish, just so I think it is the 3rd language which will be quite helpful when traveling not just in some parts of Europe but also in South America as well.
