  • Description

Hi ! I'm Marine, I’m 22 year old coming from France. I would like to pick up new skills and meet people from all around the world while being a helper. I chose Canada because I wanted to practice my English more and discover this beautiful and big country !
I have been in Canada since mid-October and travelled from
Saskatchewan to British Columbia. I have a good level of English (even though I’m French lol, I know we have a bad reputation on our English level !)

I'm currently taking a gap year as I just graduated with a bachelor in social sciences. I aspire to become a social worker (I guess? still figuring things out…).

Looking forward to meet you !

  • More details about your skills

I’m comfortable around all animals, big and small.

For my first month in Canada I stayed in a hobby farm with over 250 animals and I loved it (you can read their review on my profile). They had a variety of animals which makes it even more interesting (horses, rabbits, dogs, cats, ducks, chickens, geese, donkeys, sheep, guinea fowl, peacocks, and alpacas). This experience enabled me to learn more about raising birds, rabbits, and sheep, and caring for horses. I had to feed them every day, twice a day by myself, and take care of them while my hosts were at work.
Staying at this host also gave me the opportunity to do some horseback riding. While I haven’t ridden in a few years because of my studies, I used to be a horse rider for 8 years until I was 17.

For the past three years I have been studying social sciences. I studied sociology and psychology and I also took classes in accounting, economy and law.

I also had the opportunity to stay with a family near cold lake (Saskatchewan). I got to learn western horse riding there and I loved it !

I’m currently living with a family in Squamish in BC, I have been taking care of their 2 children (5 and 7 year-old) and doing some house keeping (cleaning around the house, laundry, picking up the leaves outside…)

My hometown in France has lots of tourists during summer, I worked two summers as a waitress in a hotel and one in a museum. Speaking english comes in handy to be able to communicate with foreigner ! I would say I have a good level of english but I can always learn! I went to Australia a few years ago and I consume a lot of english content everyday (I read in english, watch movies in english...). I still make mistakes but I'm able to hold a conversation and I'm looking forward to practice with different people.

I have a strong ability to adapt quickly and apply practical solutions, making it easy for me to pick up new skills. I'm very grateful for all the things I can learn while working with workaway !
