  • Description

    Hi there!

My name is Madeleine and I’m a dedicated and outgoing 25-year-old Brit. I've been in Melbourne working for an environmental advocacy organisation, fundraising for their work protecting Australian habitats and wildlife, so I am very keen to get out to beautiful places with my own eyes now!

A little about me: I have a degree in Biological Sciences, during which I undertook conservation fieldwork with wild animals including Manx shearwater birds, yellow-necked mice, bats, insects, fish and more, often in remote locations such as Skomer Island, U.K. and Hoga Island, Indonesia. Throughout my life I have worked with domesticated animals, for example training dogs in agility and obedience and managing farms with donkeys, pigs, chickens, sheep, rabbits and more as a Workaway volunteer in France.

I'd love to chat further about bringing my support to you! I look forward to hearing from you.

  • More details about your skills

    - I have been a Workaway volunteer for 4 hosts in France as well as an independent house sitter. I quickly learnt practical and problem-solving skills. For example, I organised arboretum equipment, thoroughly cleaned the all parts of houses and Airbnbs, cared for animals including donkeys, pigs, chickens, dogs, rabbits, sheep and cats, supported children on farm visits, and safely used farming equipment.
    - I have been working at a hostel in Melbourne for 6 months now. This role involves cleaning all parts of the hostel, general maintenance and problem-solving, being friendly by welcoming guests at check-in, and taking initiative to manage problems before they arise. I've had such fun in this role, for example designing and hosting events, such as “family dinners” where I cooked for 40 guests, crepe-making mornings, movie nights, and arts and crafts events.
    - I have lots of experience working with animals. Throughout my life I have trained and competed with multiple large and small dogs in dog agility and trained in obedience, achieving multiple Kennel Club Good Citizen Awards. I’m therefore comfortable handling dogs of all sizes and in a wide range of situations, including when they are excitable around lots of other dogs, when they are away from their owner and dealing with separation anxiety, and when they are nervous in new situations.
    - I undertook formal study at the world-renowned University of Oxford, where I studied Biological Sciences. I learnt a lot about ecological projects, conservation, sustainable agriculture and animal behaviour. For example, I have performed ecological surveys all over the world, from remote islands in Wales, U.K., to the jungles and oceans of Indonesia. I have a particular interest in birds: I safely handled Manx shearwater seabirds every day as part of my university dissertation. I have also helped ringing wild birds and checking their health to ensure their wellbeing.
    - I thrive working with people, especially in my previous job working for a charity, leading their communications team and encouraging people to get involved and volunteer with the charity.
    - I'm a dedicated worker and enjoy completing fun challenges at work!
