Hello, my name is Lucy, I am 24 years old from the United Kingdom.
I finished university in 2016, moved home to stay with my parents to save money for my first backpacking trip within which I visited India for four months and Malaysia for four months. In april 2018 i returned to asia visiting Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Cambodia and Indonesia.
I have also completed a 140 hour TEFL Qualification with the hope of being able to secure a paid teaching job at some point in the future. But first I would like to gain some volunteering experience within schools.
Whilst I was in Malaysia I spent three months in the Perhentian islands (2017) working in a dive shop in exchange for accommodation, food, three PADI dive courses. Tasks included cooking, cleaning the shop, preparing dive gear for customers, cleaning the boat, filling scuba tanks and dealing with customers and signing them up for courses. I loved my time on the perhentian islands and hope to return one day. Whilst staying there I also cared for a sick bird for over a month, I named him Abu. In May 2018 i returned to the dive centre to complete my Divemaster certification.
Since i have started travelling (and diving) i have learnt a lot about the environment, the problem of plastic pollution and its effects on marine life. We did a number of beach cleanups and the amount of plastic, polystyrene and fishing nets we collected was astounding. I would love to be involved in projects with people who share a similar interest in reducing plastic consumption and educating others.
