  • Description

    Hello potential hosts!

My name is Lillian Kelly. I am a 25-year-old woman born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. For the past year I have been working in British Columbia, first doing work-for-stay programs at hostels and then tree planting up until the end of August. Now that the tree planting season is finished, I am hoping to stretch my wings and explore Europe for the first time. I will be arriving there at the end of September 2023!

    Relevant Skills

I worked as a camp counsellor at the Mansfield summer camp for seven years, from 2016 until 2022. This has allowed me to gain extensive childcare skills including entertainment, teaching, conflict management, and teamwork. Working with a tight-knit staff team also helped build my interpersonal, organization and delegation, and mentoring skills. I have also worked as a nanny and as an English tutor, which further increased both my childcare and teaching skills. I have worked a number of seasonal jobs which have given me practical, hands-on skills including gardening (Garden Centre Merchandiser at Jeffery’s Greenhouses), carpentry (Contractor at Rideau Finishing Services), and hospitality prowess (Waitress at Pauper’s Pub and Barista at Leah’s Café). I am a quick learner and a hard worker. Working at hostels has also helped me with my interpersonal skills, and learning how to live and thrive in a communal environment. I strive to impress, and I am confident in my ability to excel at a variety of jobs, including ones I have yet to gain experience in.

    Hobbies and Interests

I was lucky enough to participate in a variety of different extracurriculars as a child. Gymnastics, baseball, soccer, hockey, and swim team, to name a few. Of the sports I tried, hockey is what stuck, and I spent every winter from 8 to 18 playing every week. I am still an avid ice skater, and I love a good game of shinny occasionally. I recently picked up roller blading, which allows me to skate year-round. I am a portrait artist, and I love spending my down time drawing. I love sharing these skills with others, and at camp I was often placed in the arts and crafts cabin to give lessons to the campers. I am an avid reader and I dabble in my own creative writing from time to time, mainly poetry. I play the ukulele (not incredibly well) because creating music is an amazing experience, even if it is a silly little song. I also love watching the campers become fascinated when they can play a basic song with only a few chords. More than anything, I love spending time with my family, who I am very close with.

If there are any other questions you may have, just ask! I am a very open person, and I would be happy to clarify anything I have said above. Hope to hear from you soon!

  • More details about your skills

I currently work as a contractor, primarily painting houses but also performing minor renovations. I am a skilled labourer and a very hard worker. It takes a lot to tire me out, and I truly love the work!

I worked as a camp counsellor for six years, which I believe taught me a great sense of responsibility, adaptiveness, patience, compassion, and people skills. For the last two years of my employment there I was promoted to Leadership Director, meaning I was tasked with designing the leaders in training program for our teen campers, in addition to ensuring everything was running smoothly with my fellow counsellors.

I am a very quick learner, and I am confident in my ability to excel in whatever help you may need.
