  • Description

    Hi! I'm Liam :)

Motivated animal carer dedicated to alleviating animal suffering. Experienced in sanctuary management, rescue operations, emergency and long term animal care. Skilled at coordinating, functioning as part of a team and meeting the daily needs of a rescue. The goal is to further my experience in animal care whilst applying the skills already learnt. Whether It's mucking out or shadowing the manager, the soul motivation is to help the animals who need it most. I'm also desperate to improve on handy skills such as carpentry, plumbing, fencing, electrics and mechanics.

Very sociable, often extroverted and always smiling. At home wherever there is conversation and laughter. I'm a musician, runner, an avid reader and passionate about plant based nutrition and cooking.

*Currently in Vietnam working at Shelter Manager at an animal rescue. Would be good to meet some pals.

I look forward to hearing from you! :)

  • More details about your skills

Previous role working as one of 3 farm managers where responsibilities include but are not limited to the categories bellow.

    Animal Care
    • Administering medications and treating aliments. This will range from giving injections, cleaning and tending to injuries, applying poultices or managing skin conditions.
    • Around the clock monitoring of physical and behavioural changes. Using those assessments with medical records to tailor treatment plans with vets.
    • Ensuring consistently high standards of cleanliness, enrichment and nutrition for 150+ pigs, equines, ruminants and hens.
    • Optimise animal comfort during treatments through compassionate care.
    • Working closely and compassionately with animals suffering from high levels of anxiety and trauma.
    • Nursing piglets, new arrivals or injured wildlife 24x7.
    • Assisting and leading on high stakes rescue operations.

    Operations and Admin Management
    • Volunteer recruitment for farm. This includes reviewing applications, identifying promising candidates and organising interviews. Judgement will be made on their suitability and will then confirm or deny their stay.
    • Ensuring there are enough volunteers to keep farm functioning and continuously dealing with logistical challenges associated with last minute cancellations or sicknesses.
    • Organising arrivals and departure times that ensure smooth transitions for 20 bed accommodation set-up.
    • Writing monthly rosters and leading weekly meetings to discuss farm and communal issues.
    • Providing health and safety training in volunteer inductions / farm tours and ensuring waivers have been signed and understood.
    • Updating farm app, designing and updating volunteer welcome packs and maintaining social media (@mylovelyveganfood Instagram May- September 2022).
    • Budgeting for communal living and sourcing discounted or food donation opportunities.
    • Designing checklists and implementing new strategies to improve efficiency and help further guarantee animal welfare.

    Team Management
    • As volunteer team leader my role includes managing and training our volunteer team on their allocated areas, assessing strengths and frailties in groups and assigning tasks accordingly.
    • Ensuring all delegated tasks have been completed.
    • Monitoring progress of new volunteers, making sure they are happy
and have everything they need to grow in confidence and efficiency.
    • Lead diverse teams of up to 20 skilled and unskilled farm personnel in
animal rehabilitation, environmental management and welfare.
    • Necessary soft skills for this role include conflict resolution, daily
problem solving, as well as effective and empathetic communication and leadership skills.

I have office based experience working for various Animal Rights charities as well as the Citizens Advice Bureau. I'm social media savvy and will be more than happy to help out on that front.

I'm former art school student, so I'm comfortable assisting with anything creative and hands on, including painting, decorating and building. I may be able to offer some basic drawing lessons!

I'm a self taught guitarist of 10 years, and would find it so rewarding to pass on that skill.

Cooking is something I do as often as I can, I would love to share the wide range of vegan recipes I've picked up over the years.
